Mulvaney says climate change will not be on agenda for G7 summit

Acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney said Thursday that climate change will not be on the agenda at next year's G7 summit, which will be hosted at the Trump National Doral Miami resort.

The big picture: Trump has been isolated as the sole leader in the G7 who does not believe in climate science. At the G7 summit in August, Trump skipped talks on the climate crisis and fires in the Amazon rainforest, though some of his team was in attendance, per The Guardian.

The last question Trump took at his final press conference of the August summit was about what he thinks should be done on climate.

In response, Trump talked about his pro-economic development policies and related U.S. oil and gas booms.

"I'm not going to lose that wealth. I'm not going lose it on dreams, on windmills — which, frankly, aren’t working too well," Trump said.

Between the lines: Miami itself is already suffering from the effects of climate change and is projected to see "anywhere from 1 to 3 feet of sea level rise by 2060," according to NPR.

Do people seriously think this will happen?

I'm sure the OSG does. Personally, I have a feeling he won't be in a position to attend the G7 next year.

Yeah, that's one of the outcomes I think is more likely than the G7 taking place.

Another is that the entire country will rise up and in revolution against the king.

Doral could be under new ownership by then, if Donny's taxes are released and the banks he owes money to see he frauded up the loan applications.

I can only assume CREW (or an organization similar) will file a lawsuit.

The remaining over/under is on how soon.

Like I said in the other thread, maybe the attendees won't actually stay in his hotel. They may have no control over the venue for meetings, but they darn sure have control over where they sleep at night. I would damn sure not stay in his hotel, and if he asked I would sweetly say I wouldn't want to contribute to his possible breaking of the law, I just care too much to do something like that.

Fuck him. I really don't think anyone will stay in that place. There are dozens of hotels in that area.

The real money is the event venue fees and food. They'll charge $100 a plate for two pancakes, a strawberry, shot glass of maple syrup and 4 oz. of OJ., for a 5 vcourse dinner, the'll get $500 a plate or more.

In response to a Freedom of Information request to which it took the State Department 13 months to respond, CBS News has obtained the Office of Protocol’s expense calculations for the first five state dinners of the Obama presidency.

Nov. 24, 2009 – State dinner for Prime Minister Manmohan Singh of India. $572,187.36
May 19, 2010 – State dinner for President Felipe Calderon of Mexico. $563,479.92
Jan. 19, 2011 – State dinner for President Hu Jintao of China. $412,329.73.
June 7, 2011 – State dinner for Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany. $215,883.36
Oct. 13, 2011 – State dinner for President Lee Myung-bak of South Korea. $203,053.34

These were at the Obama White House, so safely triple the amounts for the 5 meals minimum at the G7 Event. And a single charity dinner at Trump's club can run $100 k so I'd bet all the Pupperoni here in the Bunker that he'll charge over $1 million a day for this show.

I hope so; an injunction is more than in order.

Will be interesting to see if this even happens.

So there was one resort so high in altitude there was fear of oxygen sickness and the need for air tanks? Just who would do the worst at high altitude levels?

Is there a list of the other locations/properties that were given serious consideration? If so, I haven't seen it.

I haven't seen a list. I did see a Twitter thread a month or so ago with some wild speculation on what resorts were considered.

2012 was held at Camp David. An obvious choice that I'm sure was not considered because Obama did it.

Hawaii has lots of swanky resorts and the weather nicer than Miami would be. Santa Fe, Sedona shouldn't be too warm like Phoenix would be.

You know it would be neat if Donald were impeached and couldn't be at his own resort during this summit.

Did I see a clip of Mulvaney saying he wouldn't release the documents that led to choosing Doral? Probably because there aren't any documents. I'm guessing it was simply an order from their Chosen One.
