45, the great deal maker, didn't get much from his trip to Japan.
The video of Trump's speech was cringe worthy in so many ways. He thanked them for the "royal welcome". I'm sure he meant to say the welcome that was fit for royalty, but it came out sounding as if he believes himself to be royalty. Then, he referred to their leader by his first name. After that, he put the blame on Abe for the fact that he met with him prior to taking office, pointing out how inappropriate it was. Next, he admitted that he was surprised at how many countries "we" have. The Japanese are good at the poker face thing, I suppose that is probably the best that can be said about his disastrous remarks. I bet they are laughing their asses off right now. I would love to be a fly on the wall in the home of the young man who was nearest Trump and facing the camera. It looked, at times, as if he was having to work hard at not bursting out with laughter.

ABC had a "man on the street" type thing in China a couple of days ago. It was really funny to watch. Of course with state surveillance being what it is in China, people tend to err a bit on the diplomatic side with what they say. But even so it was quite obvious what they were thinking.

With apologies to South Park
President Abe: You are American?
Trump Yes.

President Abe: [begins to gesture] Ogh! You must have very big pee-anis!

Trump: Excuse me? I was just asking you what you're up to with trade!

President Abe: Nothing. We are very simple people. With very small penis. Mr. Ose penis is ...especially small.

Mr. Ose: [fakes a sob] Uh, smuh, so small.

President Abe: We cannot achieve much with so small penis. But you! Americans. Wow! Penis so big! Soo big penis!

Trump: [flattered] Well uh, he-I guess it is a pretty good size.

Mr. Ose: Minata, kite kite! ["Everone, come come!" A group of Japanese women move in, chattering] This-a man has veh-ry big penis! [the women applaud, Trump grins big]

Woman 1: Take takeru o da ne? ["It's rather large, isn't it?"]

Woman 2: Hai. ["Yes."]

Mr. Ose: Uh, hoh, what an-whoa immense penis-uh!

Trump: Well, it certainly was nice meeting you folk, Bye-bye now.

President Abe: Good-bye. Thank you for stopping by, with your gargantuan penis. [Trump walks out humming happily.]

New York Mag - Jonathan Chait
Trump Babbles Incoherently While Attempting to Read Speech in South Korea

Donald Trump has long entertained Republican audiences by implying that Barack Obama lacks the intelligence to speak in public without the aid of a teleprompter. And while it is true that Trump enjoys extemporaneous speech — within the tight confines of his very limited vocabulary — he continues to prove that reading text from a teleprompter is not always easy, at least not for him. Here is the president of the United States attempting to give a simple toast in South Korea ...
Together, our nations remind the world of the boundless potential of societies that choose freedom over tyranny, and who set the free. And we will free, and we will sacrifice, and we will hope, and we will make things beautiful, especially the aspirations of your people.
Perhaps it sounded better in the original Russian.

This is an interesting video - not sure if it's the same one mentioned previously. Chinese people describe the USA and answer the question about what they want to tell Trump. There are many very thoughtful and intelligent responses.

Trump was going to pop by the DMZ, but was forestalled by bad weather (not to be confused with heel spurs).

From watching the Deadliest Catch, the Coast Guard flies choppers in nearly hurricane force winds and pulls injured fishermen off the decks of crab boats.

A quick look at the weather for Seoul South Korea reveals that it has not been breezy, rainy or even fully clouded over for the past 4 days. https://www.timeanddate.com/weather/sou ... l/historic Nothing that would prevent a totally amateur private pilot from flying VFR without the slightest hesitation.

Absent other info, I call bullshit on this one.

No BS involved. The pool reporter stated that there was heavy fog limited visibility. The Coast Guard risks their lives to save others. A joyride for Trump into a military zone is not worth the risk. I imagine tHe North Koreans would love to have Marine One stray a few feet into the DMZ.

This isn't the way I remember it from the campaign days:

https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2017/1 ... #read-more
Donald Trump is tougher at a distance. His speech in North Korea notably dropped the mentions of “little Rocketman” and “fire and fury” once Trump himself was in artillery range. Arriving in China, Trump replaced the vocal criticism of Chinese trading practices with equally loud praise, saying “I don’t blame China” for gaining the upper hand in trade deals and “I give China great credit.”

I think Trump was vicious to his rivals in person during the campaign because, in all honesty, what were they going to do? Say bad things back to him?

He is a typical cowardly bully. He is scared shitless to say the same things overseas because those people can, and will "do something", and he's afraid of what that might be. I think on a strictly visceral level he does understand this much.

America First didn't go down too well in Vietnam during the APEC 2017 Summit. The Vietnamese host placed Putin and Xi next to him but left Trump seated further away next to small countries. Recall G20 Meeting in Germany where Trump was place in the corner?

He almost sounds human when the video is played at double speed.

And that let me survive to almost the 6 minute mark of the speech before I gave up.
