At some point soon, all of us will know someone who died, has a lifelong heath issue related to COVID-19, or who has had other catastrophic impacts like mental health issues or economic impacts. He can’t bluster a way out of this one.
You touch on something not really being addressed: the impact on the survivors. A few months ago I read a horrific story about a young man who survived Ebola. The mental health effects had him seriously considering suicide.
Yep. Mental health, lung, and/or cardiac and possible other organ damage.
I think the permanent organ damage thing is going to be a mother.

OAN is only in the Trump briefings (and breaking social distancing rules) because the White House circumvents the press rotation and invites them. Now OAN's CEO is mad his reporter doesn't actually get a seat.

The decision comes in an unidentified woman's lawsuit against The Trump Corporation and multiple members of the Trump family.

Journalists, litigants and even actor Tom Arnold for years have been trying to get their hands on unaired footage from The Celebrity Apprentice that allegedly incriminates Donald Trump — and on Thursday a New York federal judge ordered MGM to hand over tapes in a lawsuit over an alleged multilevel marketing scam. Whether they're those tapes remains to be seen.

During a Thursday teleconference, U.S. District Judge Lorna G. Schofield told the studio it has to find a way to give plaintiffs access to footage from two episodes related to their suit. In October 2018, four unidentified individuals filed a class action complaint against Trump, The Trump Corporation, Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump and Ivanka Trump. They claim the Trumps convinced people to become independent business owners for ACN Opportunity, which was promoted by the Trumps in various mediums, including on episodes of Celebrity Apprentice, without disclosing that their endorsements of the company were paid.

They are not broadcasting today's news rally on CNN, it's regular programming + showing commercials.

ETA: they say they are waiting for the experts to speak before they go to it live.

LOL OK they just replayed a question where Trump said we have the best testing in the world, then they immediately came back and pointed out that was definitely not true.

Rightfully so. The Trump Campaign should be paying for the time when Trump's gums are flapping.

I remember a feeling of dread at seeing the satellite pictures of Iran’s mass graves. So long ago, it seems. March 12, not quite a month age. This photo is eerily similar.

Trump asked about need for testing: "Certain sections," like Iowa, Nebraska, Idaho, are very "capable states" with "lot of land" and few cases. (Idaho, Iowa: 1300+ confirmed.) He claims, "You don't need testing there" to say "let's get the tractors moving and let's get the corn"

You're allowed to anthropomorphize things in order to explain complicated concepts. Anyone can figure out he means that bacteria evolved resistances to anti-biotics and he capped it off with a reference to hospital aquired infections just to hammer the point home.

Ya wanna really fuck up his brain?

Tell him about bacteriophages, viruses that attack and kill bacteria only. There’s a phage for every bacteria out there, sometimes 3 or 4.

Back when phages were discovered there was a ton of research done in Eastern Europe on using them to treat infections. It was overshadowed in the West by the discovery of penicillin and other antibacterial drugs.

But, since bacteria acquire resistance to drugs, many times the ‘last resort’ option is to treat the infection with phages.

Kinda neat when ya think about it.

Anyway, he wouldn’t understand at all.

FEMA Report Warned of Pandemic Vulnerability Months before COVID-19
Posted in late July, the document foresaw many current impacts, including overwhelmed hospitals and disruptions in essential services

By Thomas Frank, E&E News on April 10, 2020

The Federal Emergency Management Agency warned last year that a pandemic caused by a novel strain of influenza would cripple the country‘s response capabilities by driving millions of people into overwhelmed hospitals.

The report, which was written before the new coronavirus first surfaced in China, offered these prescient predictions: The deluge of patients would create “a shortage of medical supplies, equipment, beds, and healthcare workers.”

FEMA‘s warning, issued in July, forecast with stunning accuracy the social, economic and personal devastation that the ongoing pandemic has caused.

The report, which has not been previously described, was drafted in collaboration with the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy and other federal organizations.

With detail about widespread “social distancing” and “the overcrowding of hospitals and medical centers,” the federal government‘s disaster agency provides perhaps the strongest contradiction of President Trump‘s assertions that the scope of the current pandemic could not have been foreseen.
