#BREAKING: @NelsonForSenate releases statement on FL Senate race recount. State law requires a recount when candidates are within half a point. @ScottforFlorida is in the lead by just 0.4% as of this morning.

The New York Times now has the Scott win probability at 53%. (Tester is at 90% and McSally 60%).

Florida recounts do not elicit good memories from me.

Did Nelson run a good campaign? In May there was concern that Scott was advertising extensively while Nelson was silent. Then in August there was admiration for a Nelson ad. How about what followed?
He ran almost no campaign in my county, which kind of pissed me off. There was almost nothing but negative ads, which do nothing at all to get anyone who is on the fence or undecided. It would have been nice to hear him remind everyone of what he has done and will do. Oh, well. I tried to volunteer from him in the past and his campaign never even acknowledged me at all. I think he really took a lot for granted, but maybe that is just how it appeared where I live.

CNN
Nelson calls for recount in Florida Senate race

Washington (CNN)Florida Democrat Sen. Bill Nelson called Wednesday for a recount in his race for re-election against Republican Gov. Rick Scott.
In a statement from Nelson's office, the longtime incumbent said Scott had prematurely declared victory in the race, which CNN has not yet called.
In Florida, an automatic recount is triggered when the final margin is less than .5% and is not triggered by candidate requests. Votes were still being counted Wednesday morning, but Scott's lead was within that margin, according to CNN projections. The initial vote count won't be finalized until Saturday at noon.

A spokesman for Scott chided Nelson over the request.

"This race is over. It's a sad way for Bill Nelson to end his career," Chris Hartline said in a statement. "He is desperately trying to hold on to something that no longer exists."

Nelson's statement said his campaign intends to have "observers in all 67 counties watching for any irregularities, mistakes or unusual partisan activities."

We saw a lot of him down here. He didn't have a lot of money to spend. Scott is richer than god, (he sure stole enough from Medicare) and mostly self-funds so he'd been running ads since April. We had positive Nelson ads but not as many as Scott because he didn't have as much money. I sent what I could to him and Gillum, but when your opponent has millions he can afford to throw away on tv spots, it's hard to compete.
