Los Angeles Times
California Republican Rep. Ed Royce won't seek reelection ...

Royce, a Republican from Fullerton who was first elected to Congress in 1992, is chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and is known as a hawk and a free trade advocate.

He is the first California Republican to announce a retirement in what’s expected to be a tough year for the GOP at the ballot box.

“In this final year of my Foreign Affairs Committee chairmanship, I want to focus fully on the urgent threats facing our nation, including: the brutal, corrupt and dangerous regimes in Pyongyang and Tehran, Vladimir Putin’s continued efforts to weaponize information to fracture western democracies, and growing terrorist threats in Africa and Central Asia,” Royce said in a statement Monday. ...

He had already drawn challenges from five Democrats, including from physician Mai-Khanh Tran, former Obama administration official Sam Jammal and lottery winner and philanthropist Gil Cisneros.

Royce, whose district is largely in the 2018 battleground of Orange County, was among the House lawmakers considered vulnerable in the midterms, and winning his seat is key to the Democrats' attempts to win back control of the U.S. House.

Republicans face big risks in contested California races as Democrats fight for control of the House

The GOP may have had more success with negative ads in the 39th District, which covers much of northern Orange County as well as parts of Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties. Gil Cisneros has battled accusations that he sexually harassed a former Democratic state Assembly candidate, Melissa Fazli. A Republican super PAC allied with House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.) has run advertisements in the district about the charge.

Fazli withdrew the accusation this week after a meeting with Cisneros, saying it was based on a “misunderstanding.” The super PAC said it would stop running the ads.

The poll can’t directly measure the impact of that issue, but 45% of likely voters have a negative view of Cisneros. That includes 10% of registered Democrats. Just 41% of likely voters view him positively.

Cisneros and Republican Young Kim are locked in a dead heat, the poll showed, with the Democrat holding a nominal 49%-48% edge.

Slate did a little piece about this race, showing how Kim initially had 57% of the ballots counted, but as more were counted, that number steadily dropped.

Kim even went to D.C. for the congressional orientation.

Wasn't Kim the R that had the best shot after the election? What a wipeout. Great idea about sticking it to the blue states on taxes, sure worked out great Donald and GOP.

Is Orly Taitz the last member of the Orange County Conservatives? Does she meet alone? Caption the photo however you like :P
