Election Day - What's your go-to news source?

#1

Post by MN-Skeptic »

Election Day is almost here.

What's your approach to watching the results? Do you sit glued to the TV, to the internet? Do you ignore it until late when real results start coming in? Do you shut everything off and just wait until Wednesday?

What's your go-to site (TV, radio, website?) for news and analysis?

Stephen Colbert is going to be live tomorrow night. I definitely plan on watching his show.

I would prefer news, not analysis.

Unfortunately, there are few sources of news without their analytical spin available.

Yeah. And I saw a comment somewhere pointing out that Trump was using the Presidential seal on his podium (or whatever you call that thing) while campaigning.

I'd like to have the CNN app open and listening at the office, but with the boss around (big Republican supporter who can't keep his mouth shut about politics) I'll have to just watch from the sidelines until I get home and switch between CNN and MSNBC. Steve Kernacki (sp?) is fun to watch. I   when he was on Morning Joe yesterday in a business suit. He didn't look like himself.

I want a blue wave for all kinds of reasons, but I so :daydream: and   for that blue wave to roll right over the spiffy outdoor reporting stage Fox built just for today's coverage so all their fans can celebrate outside with them. Karma, please come and be a bitch.

I usually just check the results the next morning. The real time coverage doesn't really do much for me.

That was me in previous years, but not this one. At least the boss is over in another branch at the moment and I can listen to CNN on the phone app.

This looks interesting -

What to track in the 2018 election: a detailed Election Night cheat sheet

The author has a spreadsheet which he will update as returns come in. The spreadsheet tracks a variety of candidates and referendum items. The spreadsheet is a google sheet so anyone can see it.

I don't know if I feel like torturing myself this evening, but if I do I will watch Al Jazeera live on FB.

I usually watch for results online via NYT, WaPo, Daily Kos Elections, & my (really well curated) Twitter feed.

For MA state results, I'll likely be on WWLP or MassLive, whichever has the better setup & more stable feed this year. I love seeing how each town in MA votes & especially like seeing exactly how my town voted, both for candidates & on issues (btw - a quarter of our tiny town voted in early elections this year. I can't wait to see the final turnout numbers).

Note, we don't have cable & I can't stand talking heads blatting on & on so there will be no TV on here. If I did watch anything, it would be PBS.

ETA - one bonus of reading the results is that I have nature sounds playlists running in the background while I read. They really help drop Ye Olde Stress Levels!

I read Fogbow and my curated Twitter feed. Wonkette is blogging all day. Thank goodness for Evan Hurst! Watch local channels for local races. Have cat and dog by my side.

This evening I'll likely be glued to MSNBC and, of course, the Fogbow.

If the blue wave turns out to be as powerful as we're hoping, I'll definitely be looking in on Fox News, just to feel their pain.

BuzzFeed News: 2018 Midterm Elections Guide: How To Watch

How we make calls, what we're expecting, and what you can expect each hour. Also watch with us tonight on Twitter or on the BuzzFeed News homepage, starting at 7 p.m. ET. ...
You'll know it's a huge wave if: It's 9 p.m. ET and people on Twitter and on cable news (and especially on the AM to DM Election Night Special, where you'll find me and Decision Desk HQ's Brandon Finnigan) are talking about massive Democratic turnout along the East Coast. Democrats are already winning House seats in states like Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Florida, and maybe in places like Ohio, Kentucky, and Texas. Andrew Gillum and Joe Donnelly are winning decisively in Florida and Indiana; Stacey Abrams is coming close to 50% in Georgia; and Phil Bredesen is doing pretty well. And, critically, the early returns in the Midwest look incredibly strong for Democrats.
You'll know it's not a wave if: It's 9 p.m. ET and you're seeing a lot of tight races along the East Coast, and maybe some where Republicans are holding on, especially in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and the Midwest.

Fox has put a lot of effort into their swanky outdoor news desk for this. I so :daydream:  a blue wave blows in and wipes it all out.

Just learned that Gateway Pundit will be live-streaming the results tonight.

Hosting will be Stephen K. Bannon.

If the night begins with some big wins for Dems on the east coast, I'll definitely be tuning in. 8-)

I, for one, will be so happy to see the end of political ads on TV.
