The chairman of the House Intelligence Committee is leaving Congress for a career in talk radio.Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Mich.) said Friday he will not seek reelection in 2014, and will instead take a job as a syndicated talk radio host with Cumulus Radio.Rogers was first elected to the House in 2000 after serving in the Michigan state senate. He was appointed to lead the Intelligence Committee in 2011 after Republicans took back control of the chamber. As far as his new career, the Detroit News describes radio as a passion for Rogers from his college years at Adrian College in Michigan.[/break1]com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/202013-intelligence-chairman-to-retire-from-house]http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing- ... from-houseWon't bother me if several Republican Congressmen and Senators decide to move onto radio or teevee.

Won't bother me if several Republican Congressmen and Senators decide to move onto radio or teevee.Absolutely. Because no matter how many move over there, their listeners will still only have 24 hours in a day to divvy up among them.

Mebbe we can get someone with some actual intelligence to serve as the chairman. Like, whenever the pugs lose the House.

Safe district, I presume?Cook PVI = R+2Obama barely took it in 2008 and Romnney barely took it in 2012, so it looks like it could depend on who shows up to run and who shows up to vote.[/break1]wikipedia.org/wiki/Michigan%27s_8th_congressional_district]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michigan%2 ... l_district

Safe district, I presume? No no no, the 8th is swingy. Rogers made it safe because he was a powerful and popular incumbent but the Democrats are going to be competitive her moving forward. It would be nice to grab it this year but that would really require a premier recruit, of which there are few because the Dem bench was hurt bad by GOP gerrymandering. The Dems will have a great chance at picking it up in 2016 though when they can (hopefully) count on presidential turnout and upticket coattails.
