My guess is that Iowa Republicans won't be claiming Congressman Leonard Boswell's health is a concern during the 2012 campaign (it's been a campaign issue for them in the past). Boswell wrestled with an armed intruder in his house Saturday night. The 77 year old congressman has a quick thinking grandson who can clearly react well under pressure. As the congressman wrestled with the intruder, the Boswells’ grandson grabbed a shotgun from a nearby room, loaded it, and pointed at the attacker.[/break1]desmoinesregister.com/article/20110718/NEWS09/110718026/Dody-Boswell-recounts-how-husband-knocked-down-intruder?odyssey=tab|topnews|text|Frontpage]http://www.desmoinesregister.com/articl ... |Frontpage

Congressman Leonard Boswell (D-IA 3rd) and Congressman Tom Latham (R-IA 4th) are running for Congress in the newly created 3rd congressional district. The first link shows Iowa's present congressional districts. The second link shows the new districts (Iowa lost one due to reapportionment). The race is a tossup and will probably remain that way (3rd link).[/break1]govtrack.us/congress/findyourreps.xpd?state=IA]http://www.govtrack.us/congress/findyou ... d?state=IA[/break1]com/local/x1019710194/Branstad-approves-redistricting-plan-predicts-competitive-elections]http://ottumwacourier.com/local/x101971 ... -elections[/break1]rollcall.com/issues/57_23/In-Land-of-White-Meat-Race-to-Get-Red-Hot-208440-1.html]http://www.rollcall.com/issues/57_23/In ... 440-1.html

Update:

A new poll shows that the two incumbent Iowa congressmen pitted against each other – U.S. Rep. Leonard Boswell and U.S. Rep. Tom Latham – are tied at 45 percent when those who are “leaning” one way or the other are included.

A lot of folks expected this one to be a close race between two members of Congress who don't shoot from the lip.

A little background:

For a marquee congressional election, the race in central Iowa between Reps. Leonard Boswell and Tom Latham can seem downright boring. Unlike many of the contests around the country that get press for their outlandish comments and ideologue or neophyte candidates, this is between two old guys who have been in Congress for more than 30 years combined. On top of that, they are both generally liked in the area, have been good stewards for the agriculture industry, and come across as moderate and thoughtful.

[/break1]nationaljournal.com/daily/boswell-latham-seek-x-factor-in-iowa-showdown-20121002]http://www.nationaljournal.com/daily/bo ... n-20121002It's a shame Boswell is running against Latham instead of Congressman Steve King, Iowa's version of Michele Bachmann.

This race didn't turn out to be as close as a lot (my self included) expected.http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/n63 ... -11-08.jpg[/break1]sos.iowa.gov/resultsSW.aspx?type=CON&map=CTY]http://electionresults.sos.iowa.gov/res ... ON&map=CTYOh well, at least the congressman 3 counties north of me won't be named Steve King anymore.

Iowa lost one congressional district after the 2010 census. There were 5, now only 4.Congressman Leonard Boswell (D-IA 3rd) and Congressman Tom Latham (R-IA 4th) are running for Congress in the newly created 3rd congressional district.
