Getting old does suck at times but it still beats the alternative. I’ve never been one to have many health issues in all of my 67 years, (knock on wood) but suddenly I have medical appointment cards all over the damn place. I now have to have appointments for B-!2 injections, and have to see a neurologist for memory problems and my PCP for elevated cholesterol and God knows what else I can’t remember AND I have to take multiple medications!

Oh well like I said, it does still beat the alternative but it is quite a pain in the ass! :oldlady:

:yeahthat:

I got blindsided the day after my 65th birthday. Oy Oy Oy. Now I have all the specialists and a half dozen or so issues to manage.

Pushing 71 now. It's been an eye-opener. All I can say is, saints bless the medicos. Without them I would be dead ten times over.

I'll be 67 in April. Now that I'm living alone, I have a fear of falling (I have tile floors and two geriatric dogs. I've already slipped on a few puddles). After a friend mentioned the Apple watch can send an alert if you drop quickly, I rushed out and got one, just an old refurbished SE. And sure enough, a few days later, I bent over quickly to take out the trash and it asked if I needed help. It's my understanding that if I hadn't moved or responded, it would have contacted 911.

It beats wearing one of those life alert necklaces.

A little more info from the Apple website -
If Apple Watch SE, Apple Watch Series 4 or later, or Apple Watch Ultra or later detects a hard fall while you're wearing your watch, it taps you on the wrist, sounds an alarm, and displays an alert. You can choose to contact emergency services or dismiss the alert by pressing the Digital Crown, tapping Close in the upper-left corner, or tapping "I'm OK."

If your Apple Watch detects that you're moving, it waits for you to respond to the alert and won't automatically call emergency services. If your watch detects that you've been immobile for about a minute, it will make the call automatically.1

After the call ends, your watch sends a message to your emergency contacts with your location letting them know that your watch detected a hard fall and dialed emergency services. Your watch gets your emergency contacts from your Medical ID.
I have my brother (a physician) and his wife designated as my emergency contacts so they will be notified after 911 if I don't cancel the alert. I urge anyone with an Apple watch to set up emergency contacts too.

I'd already been a little hyper about falling, but after what happened to my husband, I am really freaked. I have the Apple Watch set up, and have had several mistaken alerts and one real one. I have a two-story house, but all I need, including the laundry, is on the first floor, so I don't use the stairs any more than I have to, either.

Yeah. I've been through a little bit of that myself. I have a critter in the crawl space. Not unusual. I usually get down there, chase them out, find the way they got in, fix it, and get out. But I don't have a spotter anymore - someone to call for help if I get in trouble. I'll probably call a pro to do the dirty work, and they can tell me how they got in so I can fix it from the outside.
