Romney is downplaying his health care plan. I think the ad is double-edged. Rick Santorum: Health care could flatline Mitt Romney in 2012By JUANA SUMMERS | 4/12/11 6:52 AM EDTRick Santorum says the Massachusetts health care law could prove fatal for Mitt Romney, sending a salvo at the newly-announced candidate on the fifth anniversary of the law's enactment.Santorum called the Democrats' national health care overhaul the "most important issue" of the coming presidential election, and said it would "fundamentally change America going forward," before quickly pivoting to attack Romney, who he supported in 2008Continue Reading"We'd better have a candidate who is out there and very, very strong in opposition to government-run health care and focuses on a health care system that centers on you, not on the government," Santorum said on Fox News Tuesday morning. "And that, I think, is a problem for Governor Romney this time around."[/break1]politico.com/news/stories/0411/52993.html]http://www.politico.com/news/stories/04 ... .htmlother headlines:Ryan Won’t Defend Romney’s Healthcare LawMarch 2nd, 2011 at 5:32 pm [RSS Feed for FrumForum News] FrumForum News | 5 Comments |Share| Print[/break1]frumforum.com/ryan-wont-defend-romneys-healthcare-law]http://www.frumforum.com/ryan-wont-defe ... thcare-lawFebruary 14bruary 14, 2011GOP Won't Let Romney Off Hook on Health CareGreg Sargent, Washington Post[/break1]realclearpolitics.com/2011/02/14/gop_won039t_let_romney_off_hook_on_health_care_250516.html]http://www.realclearpolitics.com/2011/0 ... 50516.htmlWhy Mitt Romney Won't Be Presidentby Mark McKinnon The former Massachusetts governor launched a 2012 exploratory committee on Monday to a collective yawn. It's the fifth anniversary of the day that Romney signed a near-universal health care coverage bill into law after successfully navigating the partisan waters of a blue state and coming out with legislation supported by Democrats. But it's a day that Mitt Romney, undeclared presidential candidate, seems less than eager to call attention to. Democrats, on the other hand, are more than happy to do it for him.On Tuesday, Democrats in New Hampshire and Massachusetts will gather to fete the anniversary by publicly thanking Romney for putting his signature on the Bay State law. Both states will serve health care law "birthday cakes" baked in Romney's honor.more of that one here:[/break1]talkingpointsmemo.com/2011/04/democrats-celebrate-mitt-romneys-health-care-anniversary-even-if-he-wont.php]http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2011 ... e-wont.php

And that's Mittens big problem, and that's the point of the ad. Not only is the "obamacare" plan (that Obama settled on as it was the best he could get right now) only a few shades to the left of the Massachusetts plan, its also pretty much the plan that Romney proposed as an alternative to Hillerycare during Clintons first term. So with the republicans going hell for leather on trying to oppose this as socialist, the fact that the guy proposed a virtually identical plan is going to be ripped to pieces and gloatingly pointed out again and again by Democrats.I mean a poster with Obamacare and Romneycare side by side will basically check off the same points. (leaving aside some of the differences)And yes, that's because the guy is the only adult left in the room. Hes actually a fairly decent candidate but any decent candidate will be ripped to shreds in the primary.

The ever-reliable Ann Barnhardt posted[link]"Romney Didn't Even Last a WEEK. July 3, AD 2012 2:00 PM MST",http://barnhardt.biz/[/link]Her screed is mostly about Massachusetts and RomneyCare. She concludes-Mitt Romney will never, ever repeal ObamaCare. The Congress will never, ever repeal ObamaCare. The only way to get rid of ObamaCare is a junta or civil war and the establishment of the Second American Republic. The First American Republic is dead, and it is never, ever coming back.I will not be celebrating Independence Day tomorrow, because to do so would be utterly hypocritical and a lie. The First Republic is dead, and to pretend that it isn't only feeds and enables the usurpers and tyrants who are desecrating its corpse in order to give themselves the appearance of legitimacy. No doubt that Rmoney's "town hall" will consist of pre-arranged questions from pre-approved supporters, just like Shrub's were. Good luck to you, High, and don't wear any Obama 2012 stuff. ;)

Congressman Tim Walz has said that he was inspired to run for Congress because the Bush campaign tried to keep him from attending a speech the President made during the 2004 campaign. He was a high school geography teacher in Mankato, MN when Bush came to town campaigning. He thought that it was a great opportunity to teach his students about civics and politics so he and a couple of students went to hear the speech. They were asked to show ID to get into the venue. When one of his students pulled out his wallet to get his drivers license, the campaign people noticed that he had a John Kerry sticker on his wallet and would not let them in. Walz was eventually allowed in when he pointed out that there might be some bad press if the media found out that a guy who was a veteran (recently returned from overseas deployment) and a high school teacher and football coach in small town America was not allowed to hear the Commander in Chief speak. The students were turned away.In 2006, Walz won an upset victory over an incumbent Republican.

Durbin: Romney needs to release tax returns

By

Leigh Ann Caldwell

Updated 1:07 p.m. ET

(CBS News) On "Face the Nation," Senator Richard Durbin, D-Ill., challenged the presumptive Republican nominee for president to be more transparent with his finances, including releasing more years of his tax returns.

"[highlight]Mitt Romney has failed to make an economic disclosure that every president and candidate for president has made in the last 36 years. It goes back to his father, who disclosed 12 years of tax returns - he disclosed one[/highlight]," Durbin said.

Durbin, the number two Democrat in the Senate, also referenced a new article in Vanity Fair that provided insight into Romney's offshore bank accounts in the Cayman Islands, Bermuda and Switzerland - countries popular among the wealthy for secrecy and tax protections.

The Senator suggested that Romney's offshore accounts reflected either duplicity or a lack or faith in the U.S. dollar: "You either get a Swiss bank account to conceal what you are doing, or you believe the Swiss franc is stronger than the American dollar," he said.[/break1]cbsnews.com/8301-3460_162-57468219/durbin-romney-needs-to-release-tax-returns/?tag=stack]http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-3460_162-57 ... ?tag=stack

Rmoney's campaign said in response:

Romney campaign spokesperson Andrea Saul called Durbin's statements "unseemly and disgusting."So, why did he have all of these offshore and European accounts? 8>

That [/break1]vanityfair.com/politics/2012/08/investigating-mitt-romney-offshore-accounts]Vanity Fair article was very telling. The fact is, most of Mitt Romney's acquisition of wealth has been from doing disgusting and horrible things, parasitic economic activities that create no value to anyone but Mitt Romney and his evil cronies. Here's just one example.Likewise, the Romneys were reported to have invested at least $1 million in Elliott Associates, L.P., a hedge fund specializing in “distressed assets.” Elliott buys up cheap debt, often at cents on the dollar, from lenders to deeply troubled nations such as Congo-Brazzaville, then attacks the debtor states with lawsuits to squeeze maximum repayment. Elliott is run by the secretive hedge-fund billionaire and G.O.P. super-donor Paul Singer, whom Fortune recently dubbed Mitt Romney’s “Hedge Fund Kingmaker.” (Singer has given $1 million to Romney’s super-pac Restore Our Future.)In other words, he thrives by squeezing already starving victims in Africa. This is similar to what he has done in the United States, that is, waltz in like a Mafia goon, buys out manufacturers, loots the corporations and the pensions, leaving them to be bailed out by the taxpayers, and then burns them to the ground. Why is this kind of activity even considered legal, much less praiseworthy? In any sane society, this kind of activity would be considered gangsterism of the lowest sort. The fact that we as a nation are even considering a piece of shit like this as a potential "President" is a disgrace. Romney is a parasite. He's scum. In any lengthy analysis of his financial activities, nothing he has ever done has produced anything worthwhile. All he has done is left a trail of destruction and devastation in his wake. He pretty much personifies everything wrong with capitalism. It is no surprise, really, that he comes from a cult founded by a convicted scam artist who noted that in America, all you have to do not to be convicted of fraud is to call it "religion."

I really didn't know where to post this ... I just received this forward from my crazy RWNJ (and no doubt, birther) aunt. FROM OUR FRIEND.......I know he is a Mormon, he was not my choice for the presidential nominee and I don't believe his religion is correct theologically but he is apparently a moral person. I wonder if Mr. Obama will be this open in his bid for a second term. I seem to remember him saying his administration would be the most transparent administration ever. Was that just a mis-statement or was it an intentional lie???Personal Information: His full Name is: Willard Mitt Romney He was Born: March 12, 1947 and is 65 years old. His Father: George W. Romney, former Governor of the State of Michigan He was raised in Bloomfield Hills , Michigan He is Married to Ann (Davies) Romney since 1969; they five children. Education: B.A. from Brigham Young University, (with highest honors) J.D. and M.B.A. from Harvard University (with honors, in top 5% of his class) Religion: Mormon - The Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-Day Saints Working Background: After high school, he spent 30 months in France as a Mormon missionary. After going to both Harvard Business School and Harvard Law School simultaneously, he passed the Michigan bar exam, but never worked as an attorney. In 1984, he co-founded Bain Capital a private equity investment firm, one of the largest such firms in the United States . In 1994, he ran for Senator of Massachusetts and lost to Ted Kennedy. He was President and CEO of the 2002 Winter Olympic Games. In 2002, he was elected Governor of the State of Massachusetts where he eliminated a 1.5 billion deficit. Some Interesting Facts about Romney: Bain Capital, starting with one small office supply store in Massachusetts, turned it into Staples; now over 2,000 stores employing 90,000 people. Bain Capital also worked to perform the same kinds of business miracles again and again, with companies like Domino's, Sealy, Brookstone, Weather Channel, Burger King, Warner Music Group, Dollarama, Home Depot Supply, and many others. He was an unpaid volunteer campaign worker for his dad's gubernatorial campaign 1 year. He was an unpaid intern in his dad's governor's office for eight years. He was an unpaid bishop and state president of his church for ten years. He was an unpaid President of the Salt Lake Olympic Committee for three years. He took no salary and was the unpaid Governor of Massachusetts for four years. He gave his entire inheritance from his father to charity. Mitt Romney is one of the wealthiest self-made men in our country but has given more back to its citizens in terms of money, service and time than most men. And in 2011 Mitt Romney gave over $4 million to charity, almost 19% of his income.... Just for comparison purposes, Obama gave 1% and Joe Biden gave $300 or .0013%. Mitt Romney is Trustworthy: He will show us his birth certificate He will show us his high school and college transcripts. He will show us his social security card. He will show us his law degree. He will show us his draft notice. He will show us his medical records. He will show us his income tax records. He will show us he has nothing to hide. Mitt Romney's background, experience and trustworthiness show him to be a great leader and an excellent citizen for President of the United States. You may think that Romney may not be the best representative the Republicans could have selected. At least I know what religion he is, and that he won't desecrate the flag, bow down to foreign powers, or practice fiscal irresponsibility. I know he has the ability to turn this financial debacle that the current regime has gotten us into. We won't like all the things necessary to recover from this debt, but someone with Romney's background can do it. But, on the minus side, He never was a "Community Organizer", never took drugs or smoked pot, never got drunk, did not associate with communists or terrorists, nor did he attend a church whose pastor called for God to damn the US.---I've long since given up sending her and her equally-crazy kids snopes links. His draft notice? The draft he avoided by living in a Villa in Paris?

Transparent? With Swiss bank accounts, Cayman Island accounts, a Bermuda corporation? One year of tax returns?

Rmoney had his staff "purchase" all their hard drives from his time as Governor.

Seems like he really is hiding significant stuff.

Lawrence O'Donnell had a segment tonight with a 1994 clip of Romney talking about what a ruse blind trusts are and how you can tell them what to do. It's just about the 8:00 mark in the segment which is about the difference in how Romney sounds when he's telling the truth and when he's not. Does anyone believe he does not know where his money is? Anyone?[/break1]msnbc.msn.com/id/45755883/vp/48143270#48143270]http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/45755883/vp ... 0#48143270
