In a related TX election, we have a runoff for the Republican nomination for Lt. Governor- Patrick, Dan GOP 550,742 41%Dewhurst, David (i) GOP 376,164 28%This raises the possibility that Tea Party favorite Patrick could become the Lt. Governor. That's not good because in Texas the Lt. Governor is in many ways more powerful than the Governor. Sadly, Tea Party voters are expected to dominate the Republican runoff elections. Dewhurst needs to campaign like crazy. The dispiriting Republican race for lieutenant governor had long degenerated into something far beneath Texas’ most powerful political office. Even with all the mud, it couldn’t sink lower, could it?Sadly, yes, as last week proved.[/break1]dallasnews.com/opinion/editorials/20140519-editorial-shameful-leak-of-dan-patricks-mental-health-records.ece]http://www.dallasnews.com/opinion/edito ... ecords.eceTexas Republicans selected 2 of their largest low-lifes to run against the other for the Republican nomination. These guys (plus their surrogates) would make Richard Nixon and Warren Harding look like saints.

Edit: This is one of those races where the good news is somebody has to lose. The bad news is somebody has to win.

Riding a wave of conservative sentiment that Texas Republicans were not being led with a hard enough edge, state Sen. Dan Patrick crushed Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst in Tuesday’s Republican primary runoff election for lieutenant governor, ending the career of a dominant figure in state politics for the last dozen years. The Associated Press called the race shortly after 8 p.m., just an hour after polls closed in most of the state. As votes were still being counted, Patrick was winning by a margin of 64 percent to 36 percent.[/break1]statesman.com/news/news/state-regional-govt-politics/dan-patrick-defeats-david-dewhurst-in-a-landslide/nf8Dw/]http://www.statesman.com/news/news/stat ... ide/nf8Dw/

Annnnnnnnnnnnd Texas GOPers just chose another moron in the state government's most powerful position. Danny Goeb Patrick is a thief, a liar and a flagrant opportunist.

Does anybody else wonder - really wonder- whether we're going to remain one country? And, plus, too, whether we ought to?

And, plus, too, whether we ought to?Interestingly, in the sewer that is the comments section of the Houston Chronicle there are a surprising number of posters who claim to be Republicans who say they will either not cast a vote for Lt. Gov. or vote for the Democrat. I doubt that will turn out to be the case, but time will tell.

Does anybody else wonder - really wonder- whether we're going to remain one country? And, plus, too, whether we ought to?I'm still pondering. We are so polarized for the last couple of decades, I can't see the hatred and demonization from the right dissipating anytime soon, and I just honest to dog don't know how we can function with the Republicans obstructionism as their sole policy goal. Europe seems to be going the way it is because of austerity, which is what they want for us, too.I think we should divide the country into quadrants, NE, SE, NW, SW. Let the SE enact all the terrible, anti-citizen/pro-business legislation they want and try to live by it, but give the rest of us the opportunity to do it the way the citizens of the other quadrants decide. IE, not their way.
