Not exactly a major surprise.Arkansas Republican Rep. Tom Cotton plans to announce his bid next week to challenge two-term incumbent Democratic Sen. Mark Pryor in next year’s elections, according to a person familiar with the congressman’s plans. The person who spoke to The Associated Press on Wednesday was not authorized to speak publicly about the planned announcement and spoke on a condition of anonymity. But the freshman congressman has scheduled an event Tuesday with supporters in his hometown of Dardanelle. The Club for Growth in February launched the first television ad against Pryor, seen by many as a signal that the group would back Cotton’s potential candidacy. Other conservative groups said they’re prepared to back Cotton’s bid.“Representative Cotton is a conservative leader and rock star candidate. Arkansas is now one of the very top pickup opportunities for Republicans this cycle and we are excited to get engaged in the race on behalf of Rep. Tom Cotton,” said Steven J. Law, president and CEO of American Crossroads, a GOP group tied to Republican strategist Karl Rove.[/break1]washingtonpost.com/national/apnewsbreak-freshman-gop-rep-tom-cotton-to-run-for-us-senate-in-arkansas-source-says/2013/07/31/e212cc6c-f9f3-11e2-89f7-8599e3f77a67_story.html]http://www.washingtonpost.com/national/ ... story.html

This will be an extremely tough race for Pryor, he's in for the fight of his life. There are two things he can be thankful for though: Surprisingly the Democrats are putting together a really good ticket for 2014 in the state, and Cotton is so delusional that there's a pretty good chance he makes an Akin-like comment that inflicts a lot of self-harm.

Congressman Cotton (R-AR 04) made it official today.Republican Tom Cotton is taking a shot at the United States Senate. The U.S. Representative of Arkansas' 4th District made his bid official late Tuesday afternoon, announcing that he will challenge U.S. Sen. Mark Pryor for the seat. Cotton, 36, made the announcement at a barbecue event in his hometown of Dardanelle.Cotton, a U.S. Army veteran who served tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan, was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in November. Before that, Cotton worked as a management consultant.Cotton's bid has already created a stir in the political world. Club for Growth, a Washington, D.C.-based group, has already raised $182,945 to oppose Pryor, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette previously reported. Conversely, several liberal groups have spent $308,111 launching a negative ad campaign against Cotton, according to previous reports.[/break1]arkansasonline.com/news/2013/aug/06/cotton-officially-announces-bid-us-senate/]http://www.arkansasonline.com/news/2013 ... us-senate/

November 4, 2014 is a long, long ways away; but ya gotta start somewhere.[/break1]photobucket.com/user/Joseph_Robidoux_III/media/Politics/2014%20Elections/2014%20US%20Senate/Arkansas/USSenateAR2013-10-27_zpse9448b78.jpg.html]http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/n63 ... 448b78.jpg[/break1]realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2014/senate/ar/arkansas_senate_cotton_vs_pryor-4049.html]http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls ... -4049.htmlThis will be an extremely tough race for Pryor, he's in for the fight of his life. I hope he's correct about Congressman Cotton shooting himself with his mouth.

Pryor is definitely the most-endangered incumbent running for reelection in 2014. Thankfully he's gotten a little help so far because the Democrats are putting together a strong ticket for 2014 despite the Arkansas Democratic party being a complete mess. So far we've got Mike Ross running for Governor (and he's keeping it close with Republican Asa Hutchinson), North Little Rock Mayor Patrick Henry Hays running in AR-02 (which will now be a race for an open seat with two-term GOP Rep. Tim Griffin retiring), and James Lee Witt (famous for his time as FEMA director under Bill Clinton) running in AR-04, the seat being vacated by Cotton.Pryor's smartly talking about the GOP-caused government shutdown and trying to frame his opponent as being far outside the mainstream of the Republican party. Hopefully he keeps talking about it because he's trying to strike now while the iron is hot. Cotton is yet to babble his way into a monstrous gaffe but give it time, it's almost a forgone conclusion. The race is going to be neck-and-neck all the way up until Election Day because the state trended quickly away from the Democratic party and Pryor's just trying to hang on.

Other than 3 dubious poll results, this race has been shown as close for over a year.[/break1]photobucket.com/user/Joseph_Robidoux_III/media/Politics/2014%20Elections/2014%20US%20Senate/Arkansas/USSenateAR2014-08-14_zps336021ef.jpg.html]http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/n63 ... 6021ef.jpg[/break1]photobucket.com/user/Joseph_Robidoux_III/media/Politics/2014%20Elections/2014%20US%20Senate/Arkansas/USSenateAR2014-08-14b_zps29894c31.jpg.html]http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/n63 ... 894c31.jpg[/break1]realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2014/senate/ar/arkansas_senate_cotton_vs_pryor-4049.html]http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls ... -4049.html

http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/n63 ... -4049.html Not much movement in this race. Congressman Cotton is still maintaining a slight lead.

PPP polled here over the weekend. Hopefully it's similar to a DSCC internal showing Pryor ahead by 3 points.
