2016 GOP Convention

#1

Post by Chilidog » Fri Mar 25, 2016 3:55 pm

A general thread for all the assorted nuttiness that is bound to occur.

To start: 12,000 people have signed a petition to allow open carry of firearms at the GOP convention.

Because Isis might attack them.

What could go wrong?

I don't see how they can reasonably reconcile the convention being a gun free zone with the party's platform regarding firearms.

Besides, it'll be a hoot!

Dpes anyone else have the feeling that the GOP primary season is a either bad comedy movie or a dream we had after eating a bad burrito and we are all going to wake up? :yankyank:

I keep wishing/hoping so. I'm terribly afraid the 2016 convention is going to be either mud or slime (or both) fest 2016. To say nothing of what the general election is going to devolve in to, regardless of who the candidate is.

I can't find the exact quote, or even the exact candidate (I'm thinking Walker?) but back at the first debate one of them said something like "We have all these wonderful candidates, any of whom would make a great president, and the dems have nobody."

Good times.

It's gun-free because that is the policy of the convention center, not just for the GOP convention but for every event held there. The Republican Party knew that this was a condition of the lease when it signed the contract.

So much for that "contract theory" of government they espouse, huh?

Change.org petition

Allow Open Carry of Firearms at the Quicken Loans Arena during the RNC Convention in July.
https://www.change.org/p/quicken-loans- ... -in-july-2

Every single GOP candidate supposedly condemns “gun free zones” as prime targets; they also shout over and over how the 2nd Amendment shall never be tread upon! They can’t very well infringe upon the rights of their own voters and NOT allow them all to come to the convention armed.

I signed this petition; they only need 3,161 more signatures and I would encourage everyone to help them reach their goal. Never let it be said that we wouldn’t cross over and help the other party in time of need. :smoking:

...it could give new meaning to the term "brokered convention." :shootin:

Seriously, though, there will never be guns inside the convention. The venue prohibits it. The Secret Service would prohibit it.

But that doesn't speak to outside the venue. As in, physically off the venue property. I'm sure the Secret Service would object, but Ohio does (apparently) allow open carry of long guns. Mix that in with the certainty of scads of protesters, and you would have a recipe for disaster. :cantlook:

Serious prediction: If Trump does not win nomination outright and this goes to second vote, his supporters will surround the electors inside and outside the building and threaten bodily harm on anyone who fails to vote for Trump. This will be way scarier than anything seen so far at Trump rallies.

MAR 25 2016
Revealed: Donald Trump's Big Plan to Stop a Contested Republican Convention

On the campaign trail, Donald Trump has a clear answer to questions about a contested convention in Cleveland — it's not happening.

"I know the press likes to talk about the brokered convention," he told NBC this week, "but I think we're doing really well."

The dealmaker, however, is not leaving anything to chance.

While Trump publicly dismisses talk of a battle in Cleveland, he is quietly assembling a team of seasoned operatives to manage a contested convention. Their strategy, NBC has learned, is to convert delegates in the crucial 40 days between the end of the primaries and the convention - while girding for a floor fight in Cleveland if necessary.

The outreach is already underway. <BIG SNIP because there are too many details to post here>

Just "helped" 'em out with their petition, and left a couple a comments. Fuck them, I hope they do all get to carry their guns. Maybe they can clear out their own diseased ideology without outside help.

Waiting for the inevitable shoot down (Pun sort of intended ) of the stellar open carry at the convention idea. Then, the RWNJS can blame Obama for being in charge if The Secret Service.

President Obama, worst gun grabber ever, best bogeyman to be used by the NRA ever.
