Seems that series 27 will be good too.

Silent Witness viewers saying same thing as show returns with series 27 debut
Taking to social media, viewers praised the compelling plot, which runs across two episodes. One person penned: "Still awake thinking about how amazing the 1st ep of #silentwitness S27 was and what is to come for the rest of this series. My mind can't switch off. Such a gripping storyline and fabulous performances from all. Wonderful, sweet Jakki moments woven into the crime story too."

A second person penned: "Great opener for S27 #SilentWitness, so many twists and turns esp in the 2nd episode.
Have started "The Fall" which apparently follows the N. Ireland police in pursuit of a serial killer thru 17 episodes. :o
The Fall is excellent.

Just started S8 of Shetland.
Last weekend I watched The Strange Case of Natalia Grace and the S2 of that series, Natalia Speaks. (HBO) weird shit, weird people. My neck got good exercise from shaking my head.

Feel good, cheeky movie (Netflix) Bank of Dave

Our cable provider has added the Disney+ channel with commercials to its list of included at no extra charge streaming services.

So yesterday evening I caught up on the 4 Dr. Who 60th anniversary/Xmas specials.

Didn't think they lived up to the hype but they weren't bad.

Meanwhile over at BritBox have been streaming "Pie in the Sky" a show from the 1990s. It involves a cantankerous but brilliant police CID Inspector who also runs a gourmet restaurant. Think "Inspector Morse" meets "Kitchen Nightmares". Fun seeing all the old 1990's technology and now famous actors in their younger days.

Had Disney+ for 3 months for 99 cents a month, but not really being into Star Wars there wasn't a lot there I was excited about. I liked the behind-the-scenes docus, they should have more of that and the archives. There's tons of that material.

Neon hooked me up with a new Netflix show: STRANDED WITH MY MOTHER-IN-LAW. It's from Brazil but it's dubbed as well as subtitled. 500,000 Reals is the prize.

Watch Stranded with my Mother-in-Law | Netflix Official Site
https://www.netflix.com/title/81522420
To win a life-changing prize, couples embark on a journey to an earthly paradise and confront challenges... with the assistance of their mothers-in-law. ... Six couples travel to a mysterious beach to confront challenges and compete for a grand prize, unaware that their mothers-in-law are also present.
The Gist: The six couples who are participating on Stranded With My Mother-In-Law think that they’re participating in couples reality series on that island, with a prize worth just short of $100,000. What they don’t know is that the mothers of one of each couple’s participants are lurking nearby.

Souza actually introduces us to the mothers-in-law first. It’s your usual assortment of MILs, most of which don’t particularly like the person their son or daughter married. In one case, her son has been married to his wife for 18 years and his mom still doesn’t think she’s right for him. In another case, the mother of a woman who married her husband a year ago is upset that he never took the time to meet her in person — they still have never met. Another MIL thinks her daughter’s husband is lazy. Another thinks her daughter-in-law has too many tattoos.

The moms are right, the kids are useless.

Recently found Superman II on Prime Video. I'd forgotten how much fun those movies were :bighug:

That said, this just came across my FB feeds and I can't think of a good thread to place it, so I'll stick it here. *sniff*

https://wapo.st/3vHxtrr

Gifted link.
PARK CITY, Utah — When Christopher Reeve was in the hospital after the tragic horse-riding accident in 1995 that would cause him to become paralyzed from the neck down, unable to breathe on his own, his good friend Robin Williams paid him a visit to give him a laugh.

“I came in as a Russian proctologist, put on a glove and said, ‘We’re going to have to examine this thing,’” Williams says in an archival interview in the moving and visually inventive new documentary, “Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story,” which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival Sunday morning.

The two were roommates at Juilliard, before Reeve became the biggest movie star in the world as Superman at 24, before Williams was Mork from “Mork & Mindy.” It was Williams who cheered up a despondent Reeves, who, at the height of his pain, whispered to his wife, Dana, “Maybe we should let me go.” It was Williams and his second wife, Marsha, who bought the Reeve family a special retrofitted van to get him to an appearance at the Academy Awards 10 months after the accident. Williams joined the board of what would become the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation and became a disabilities advocate himself. At Reeve’s funeral, Williams called Reeve his brother and said that Reeve had been a steady rock for Williams, “and I was chaos for him,” but Reeve had loved it.

“I always felt that if Chris was still around, Robin would still be alive,” Glenn Close says in the film, in just one of the moments that may have you catching your breath.

This is fun! It's a 12-part movie serial from Republic Pictures in 1946. Clayton Moore (The Lone Ranger) is in it. I'm not old enough for the classic cliffhangers, but I heard a lot about them. The fight choreography is excellent. Surprised that Internet TV isn't following this format, it makes a lot of sense. There's a lot of production value and music in this series. It's just good old-fashioned movie entertainment.

The Crimson Ghost: Directed by Fred C. Brannon, William Witney. With Charles Quigley, Linda Stirling, Clayton Moore, I. Stanford Jolley. A criminal mastermind known as the Crimson Ghost is out to steal a device called the Cyclotrode, which can short-circuit every electrical current on the planet.

Here's a colorized version:

Neon comes through and hooks us up again! :P Pure trash. Super fun watch. If these trashy show posts are irksome, should we have a Trashy TV topic?

LOVE NEVER LIES: POLAND Season 2 just dropped on Netflix.

This is the meanest, roughest reality show on teevee. They take couples (who have agreed to be on the show and know it's coming) and subject them to "navigating challenges, temptations, and revenge, exploring the dynamics of relationships within a villa setting. The show unveils emotional revelations and tests the participants’ commitment through lie-detector questions". The crying, the screaming, the pouting.

Love Never Lies: Destination Sardinia was HI-LARIOUS, the couples milked it for all it was worth. Most are young; some as young as 18-19 who treat it like the end of their lives. "I'm almost... 24!"

It's also notable that all versions of the show feature gay couples as well -- usually a MM and a FF couple. It's still incredible to watch how easily they interact, it's like no big deal to the straight couples. Great reminder that hearts and minds have changed far beyond what we could have imagined.

On the other hand, this is also really well done, love historical drama.

Alexander: The Making of a God is a six part docudrama series that reveals the extraordinary life of Alexander the Great through his radical transformation from warrior prince to living god. The series explores his rise as an exiled young man into his obsession with defeating the mighty Persian Emperor Darius that led him to conquer the known world in just under six years. Alexander the Great's fascinating story is told through stunning drama intertwined with expert academic insight, ground-breaking archaeology and ongoing excavations at the archaeological site in Alexandria, Egypt led by Calliope Limneos-Papakosta.

Too also: The Greatest Night in Pop is a 90-minute on-the-scene documentary on the making of "We Are The World". Making cassette tapes  Believe it or not, Rule Brittania was the template. 1984, I had just started in the business and this affected me deeply.

I am watching Only Murders in the Building on Hulu. I was going to ditch it after one or two episodes because it's obviously supposed to be a comedy but it just wasn't working for me. Then, it got funny. Then, it got real funny. I am really enjoying it. If you watch the first couple of episodes and think about giving it up, keep going if you like comedy. Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez are the regulars but there are lots of cameos including Amy Schumer and Nathan Lane. Lane doesn't play a comedic character, but he's excellent in his role. It's lots of fun once they get on a roll.

Same here! When Amy Schumer showed up I openly laughed, and just like you I laughed even before she said a word! I hope I'm not spoiling. I won't mention anyone else. I'm just a couple episodes into Season Two at this point. I am loving it. I'm so glad I didn't turn if off. Not sure why the first couple of episodes just seemed so-so to me. I wonder if anyone else thought the same. Or maybe I was in "a mood" or something.

Several things--

True Detective on HBO and MAX, one left. Not too fond, but had higher hopes. Not sure why I did now.

The Woman in the Wall on SHO, two left. Based on true story about Irish Magdalene Laundries. Really confusing at first, starting to come together. I knew about them, but didn't realize just how horrid.

Coming soon--

Tonight: Jon Stewart back on Comedy Central Daily Show on Monday nights 11 PM EST until the election.

Wednesday night: Season 3 of Resident Alien. I hadn't seen this anywhere. Came across it by accident yesterday.

Finished Blue Lights on BritBox. Didn't expect much - a normal police procedural - but it turned out to be excellent. Cops in current day Belfast; things are still unstable. Well done (it reminded me a bit of The Wire - bad guys not one-dimensional), but assumes you know the history well (it's probably meant for UK/Irish audiences). To the google I go to learn more.

I watched some crazy true crime cases on 20/20. Guilty pleasure that a rich influential guy (car dealer owner in Austin) goes down for a murder-for-hire, all because he didn't want his wife to know he'd hired an escort on an out of town trip. Dude.

I watched the first episode of (season 2 of) "Feud". This season is subtitled "Capote Vs. The Swans". It's about a public feud between Truman Capote and a group of socialites in the mid 60s. I wasn't planning to watch until I heard an interview with Molly Ringwald on "Fresh Air" yesterday. (Molly is a really interesting person, btw. She plays Joanne Carson.)

The show is on Fx and streams on Hulu. Here's the episode list:
