African Articles Stating that Obama was Born in Hawaii

Most of you have seen this 2004 article from East African Standard: [link]Kenyan-born Obama all set for US Senate,http://web.archive.org/web/200406271427 ... 060403.htm[/link]. It is still referred to as "proof" that Obama was born in Kenya.

For some masochistic reason, I have been battling birfers on youtube. I have dug up a bunch of articles from Africa that mention Obama's Hawaiian birth. Several of them is quite fantastic. The first one is a must have for all obots. All spelling errors are as found in the articles:

[link]Say what may, Obama is Kogelo’s son ruling the greatest nation on earth,http://www.standardmedia.co.ke/?article ... -on-earth-[/link]

This first article is a must read; the author rips the birfers, and explains why Kenyans describe Obama as a "Kenyan", "son of the soil", "son of Kenya", etc.

snip.....

To all the skeptics out there, here is one inescapable fact. There was a Barack Hussein Obama born in Kenya. He is the father of your president. He was a black man from black Africa. The name and the person Barack Hussein Obama Sr, came from a sleepy village in Kenya called Nyang’oma Kogelo.

....

Let me explain how it works, America.

In Kenya, and many other African countries, a child belongs not just to the mother and father, but to the extended family: grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins.

Amongst the Luo, this concept of community is particularly strong, which is why even though Obama is fully American, to his relatives in Kenya he is fully Luo. He is a son of Kogelo. That is his home.

In patrilineal Kenya, everybody has a ‘real’ home, which is where the father/husband originally comes from, and not just where they have chosen to live and work.

snip.....

Obama doesn’t have to have been born in Kenya to get the privilege of calling Kogelo home. And even though, legally, the Government of Kenya does not recognise him as Kenyan that is of little consequence to his family here.

While birfers won't ever buy this, I think the author's explaination about why Obama is sometimes referred to as Kenyan is excellent and well-explained. While we have all known that Kenyans were speaking culturally, this article gives some solid reasoning for the "Obama is Kenyan" references.

[link]The 'Who Is Obama?' slanderous screed; Chido,http://www.usafricaonline.com/chido.vs. ... ers08.html[/link]

Probable U. S. presidential candidate, Barack Hussein Obama was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, to Barack Hussein Obama, Sr., a black MUSLIM from Nyangoma-Kogel, Kenya and Ann Dunham, a white ATHIEST from Wichita, Kansas.

[link]Kenyan Celebrates Obama Presidency,http://www.nigerianobservernews.com/220 ... nnews.html[/link]

Obama was born in Hawaii, where he spent most of his childhood raised by his mother, a white American from Kansas. He barely knew his late father, an economist from Kogelo. Obama has visited his Kenyan relatives three times there, and his step-grandmother, Sarah, and other relatives traveled to Washington for the inauguration. She says they are close, although they have to speak through an interpreter.

Before Obama was even born in Hawaii in 1961 slavery was once practiced in America, most especially in its Southern States. Here Africans were used as drawers of water and hewers of wood for their American slave owners. These Africans had virtually no rights as human beings at the time.

[link]Obama, 1st US black president for swearing-in today,http://www.nigerianobservernews.com/200 ... news1.html[/link]

Today’s event which is expected to be graced by political leaders across the globe, will no doubt remain as one of the most historic moments in the history of the human race.

Barack Obama was born in Hawaii on August 4, 1961, to Barack Obama, Snr and Ann Dunham. His parents met while attending the University of Hawaii, where his father was enrolled as a foreign student.

This one even mentions the hospital Obama was born in:

[link]Who is Barrack Obama?,http://www.modernghana.com/news/226641/ ... obama.html[/link]

Barack Obama was born at the Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children in Honolulu, Hawaii, United States, to Stanley Ann Dunham, an American of mainly English descent from Wichita, Kansas, and Barack Obama, Sr., a Luo from Nyang'oma Kogelo, Nyanza Province, Kenya. Obama's parents met in 1960 in a Russian language class at the University of Hawaii at MÇnoa, where his father was a foreign student on scholarship. The couple married on February 2, 1961, and Barack was born later that year. His parents separated when he was two years old and they divorced in 1964. Obama's father returned to Kenya and saw his son only once more before dying in an automobile accident in 1982.

This article explains birferism in small detail and gives a shout-out to the Trufers!:

[link]A Very British Beauty Queen Born in Nigeria,http://www.modernghana.com/blogs/217052 ... geria.html[/link]

He is by now a saturated example but his case fits very well into the plot of our story. We remember that some Americans calling themselves Birthers took issue with Barack Obama's citizenship during and after the 2008 presidential elections. Three law suits were filed with the Supreme Court of America, seeking to disqualify the candidate. Obama's mixed race parentage had become a matter of interest, with the Birthers, a parallel to the Truthers, the 9/11 conspiracy theorists, claiming that the candidate had been born in Kenya but his birth certificate was forged to make Hawaii his birthplace.

Pundits and Political opponents had variously referred to Article Two of the US constitution, which states that the President must be a natural born citizen of the United States of America. Obama's campaign team immediately issued a certified copy of his Live Birth Certification, which confirmed that the candidate had been born in Honolulu in 1961. The Director of the Hawaiin Health Department also confirmed that the Department has records of Obama's birth certificate, “in accordance with state policies and procedures.” Still, the conspirators will not rest their case; they raised issues about his Indonesian connection, claiming that he had become a citizen of Indonesia when he lived there.

Finally, they settled on dual citizenship as a basis for his disqualification. But America was already decided: Opinion polls carried out in November 2008 showed that only 10% of Americans believed the eligibility conspiracies. The Supreme Court also dismissed the cases. The cases were not filed at the lower courts. That did not end it for the conspirators. Even after his swearing-in on January 20, having been confirmed by Congress on January 8, 2009, as President of the United States of America, some Americans still find Obama's biracial identity a bother.

This was a comment to an article, but I couldn't find the article. The author is steaming mad at the birfers!

[link]Comment: Uh Oh, the Birthers are here,http://www.modernghana.com/thread/74155/226379/1[/link]

Maybe the writer of this article mistakenly thinks that Obama was born in Africa. Simple as that. Maybe it's a mistake by the writer, who not not knowing US Constitutional Law, doesn't realise that of course Obama couldn't have been born in Africa AND be President of the United States.

Maybe the writer assumes that Obama was born in Africa since that's where his father was born, and that's where many of his family were born and live. It's just like how some American news organisations entertained the idea that Obama was a Muslim, an idea still believed by many white conservatives in America. Some of these people even believe that Obama is an Arab.

You Birthers are absolutely DESPERATE if you consider one line, in one story, on one niche website as proof or evidence that Obama was born in Africa.

 =D>

I'm not going to waste time pointing out that Obama was born in Hawaii. There'd be no convincing you. Disgruntled conspiracy theorists believe what they want to believe regardless of the contrary evidence staring in their face.

Another article that mentions the hospital Obama was born in. The article is from the BBC, but it was printed in an African paper. The article also explains some of the basics of birferism.

[link]Obama's Birth Certificate Released,http://www.modernghana.com/news/326382/ ... eased.html[/link]

snip.....

The document shows Barack Hussein Obama II was born 4 August 1961 at Kapiolani Maternity and Gynecological Hospital in Honolulu, to Barack Hussein Obama, a 25-year-old student, and Stanley Ann Dunham, 18, and includes the signature of the attending physician.

The White House released copies of the original birth certificate, with a stamp verifying its authenticity. White House officials said they had been given a waiver by Hawaii public health officials, as the state's policy in general bars release of long-form birth certificates.

snip.....

But fringe 'birther' theorists have insisted Mr Obama was actually born in his father's native Kenya, making him ineligible to be president.

snip.....

The release of Mr Obama's long form birth certificate, which had been stored in a bound volume among the records of the Hawaii Department of Health since his birth in August 1961, comes after years of speculation among conspiracy-minded conservatives.

snip.....

But the move did little to quell the birthers, even as most mainstream Republicans have sought to quash the movement, calling it a distraction from substantive policy disagreements.

snip.....

[link]Barack Obama,http://www.modernghana.com/references/6 ... obama.html[/link]

Barack Hussein Obama was born Aug. 4, 1961, in Honolulu, Hawaii. His father, Barack Obama, Sr., was born of Luo ethnicity in Nyanza Province, Kenya. He grew up herding goats with his own father, who was a domestic servant to the British. Although reared among Muslims, Obama, Sr., became an atheist at some point.

[link]A Political Prophet- Barack Hussein Obama; His story is the American story!,http://www.modernghana.com/news/298439/ ... story.html[/link]

President Hussein's mother, Stanley Ann Dunham, was born in Wichita, Kansas, of mostly English, but also some German, descent. His father, Barack Obama, Sr., was a Luo from Nyang'oma Kogelo, Nyanza Province, Kenya. Obama is the first President to have been born in Hawaii. Obama's parents met in 1960 in a Russian language class at the University of Hawaii at Mānoa, where his father was a foreign student on scholarship. The couple married on February 2, 1961, but separated when Obama Sr. went to Harvard University on scholarship, and divorced in 1964. Obama Sr. remarried and returned to Kenya, visiting Barack in Hawaii only once, in 1971. He died in an automobile accident in 1982.

For Ghana, Obama's visit will be a celebration of another milestone in African history as it hosts the first-ever African-American President on this presidential visit to the continent of his father's birth.

[link]Palaver: 07/08/09,http://www.standardmedia.co.ke/?article ... :-07/08/09[/link]

Why won’t they just let it be? Even after Barack Obama made his birth certificate public last July, birthers are still not convinced he was born in the US and is therefore ineligible to be president, according to the US constitution. A Certification of Live Birth indicates Mr Barack Hussein Obama was born at 7.24pm on August 4, 1961, in Honolulu, Hawaii. From Palaver, a belated Happy Birthday, Barack.

[link]Rush Limbaugh Was Not On Obama’s Trip To Ghana,http://www.ghanaweb.com/GhanaHomePage/f ... ?ID=168401[/link]

We need to get the latter out of the way, because many Americans, irrespective of race and ethnicity, confronted with Mr. Obama’s unprecedented achievement, have a hard time envisaging the Hawaiian-born half-Kenyan and White-American for what he veritably is – the substantive President of the United States of America and, proverbially and metaphorically, the most powerful human political operative in the universe.

[link]Obama can make Gandhi prophecy on peace true,http://www.standardmedia.co.ke/?article ... eace-true-[/link]

A major sign of hope is embodied in Obama’s personal background as a product of at least three civilisations (American, African and Islam), with a wider multiculturalism in Indonesia, when he was a child, and in Hawaii, where he was born and spent much of his childhood.

[link]Obama halts campaign to visit ailing grandmother,http://www.standardmedia.co.ke/?article ... randmother[/link]

"Senator Obama’s grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, has always been one of the most important people in his life," Gibbs said in a statement. "Along with his mother and his grandfather, she raised him in Hawaii from the time he was born until the moment he left for college. As he said at the Democratic Convention, she poured everything she had into him."

Lakin gets a shout out in Kenya!

[link]Palaver - 15/12/10,http://www.standardmedia.co.ke/?article ... --15/12/10[/link]

Believe it or not, a US soldier Lt Col Terrence L Lakin is risking serving more than three years in jail for refusing to deploy to Afghanistan. Reason? He doesn’t believe Barack Obama was actually born in America and therefore, he feels Obama is not eligible to be US President. And most certainly, not Commander-in-Chief. And this from an 18-year-old army veteran. Of course, Hawaii officials have authenticated Obama’s original 1961 birth certificate that is on record with that state.

[link]Robbers Target Obama Family In Kenya,http://nigerianobservernews.com/1292008 ... news2.html[/link]

The Democratic senator was born in Hawaii, where he spent most of his childhood raised by his mother, a white American from Kansas. He barely knew his late father, a Kenyan economist from Kogelo.

Mentions the birfers, but not Obama's birth. Still, fun...

[link]Palaver 21/11/2011,http://www.standardmedia.co.ke/?article ... le=Palaver[/link]

President Barack Obama should be very careful about which state he steps into considering the number of nutcases willing to send him back to Hawaii. First there were some fellows wondering whether Obama was really Christian and even whether he was American at all. The came Mr Herman Cain who says God looked far and wide and settled on him as the next occupant of the Oval Office. And now some fellow from Idaho called Oscar Ortega-Hernandez fired shots at the White House in an attempt to assassinate President Obama, who he terms "the anti-Christ". Mr Ortega-Hernandez claims to be the "modern-day Jesus Christ."

Enjoy this list. Make good use of it, obots!

Edit: I'm going to add additional articles below.

"Simultaneous with Obama’s rising stature is the increasing desire by Kenyans to identify with him. Typical newspaper headlines and messages flying around the Internet tend to lead with the theme "Kenyan-linked", or "Kenyan-American", or even, erroneously, "Kenyan-born".

People like identifying with winners, especially when they can be linked to them in a direct way. However, Kenyans are mistaken in attempting to claim Mr Barrack Obama as one of their own..."

snip.....

Kenyans are entitled to support Obama and to celebrate the proximity of a Kenyan descendant at the centre of American power, but they should do so in the full knowledge that they are hypocrites.

[quote name=Whatever4][link]Another couple, from the Home Pages:,http://www.thefogbow.com/birther-claims ... -in-kenya/[/link]

Claim: A black Kenyan Historian says Obama was born in Kenya.

Professor Ali Mazrui has written that America has a Luo president.

[link]Mazrui on President Barack Obama’s triple heritage,[/link]

This American precedent may lead on to the election of a Black Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, a Black President of France, and even a Black Chancellor of Germany before the end of this twenty-first century. A Somali Prime Minister of Italy in another 50 years is no longer inconceivable. After all, the United States has had a Luo President sooner than has Kenya, which has a population of several million Luo.

Professor Mazrui was correctly pointing out that President Obama was a member of the Luo tribe due to his father's ancestry. The entire article talks about Obama's three-part ancestral heritage: African, Muslim, and American. A prominant African, Olara Otunnu [link]gave the following lecture at Harvard,http://archive.org/details/OtunnuOnLuoT ... Oct.252008[/link] and discussed Mazrui's point.

Olara Otunnu (Harvard Law, 1978) relating the remark of Kenyan historian Ali Mazrui on the oddity that a member of Kenya's Luo tribe (Barack Obama, a Kenyan citizen and Luo tribe member from birth) may become president of the United States before a Luo tribe member becomes president of Kenya. "Town Hall Forum: An Examination of Race, Age, Gender & Religion in the 2008 Election," Harvard Law School Reunions, Oct. 25, 2008, 9:15 a.m, (Austin Hall, 1st Floor, West), at 60:17 mark.

In this lecture, Otunnu also never said Obama was born in Kenya. The listing says that Obama was a Kenyan Citizen because his father was a Kenyan Citizen. Obama was born in the US with dual citizenship. (See our page on Dual Citizenship.) In the actual lecture, Otunnu says:

"There is a prospect that the US would elect a president, a Luo president, before Kenya does... if Americans, White Americans, are prepared to elect a person of African heritage and not hold his race and ethnicity against him, what are Africans doing holding ethnicity against each other?... If Obama had grown up in Kenya on the father's side instead of the mothers, he may have had less of a chance of becoming president of the US."

Wow...just...Wow. Here's what I post to rebut the 2004 article: A week later, same paper (The Sunday Standard) printed this editorial: "Simultaneous with Obama’s rising stature is the increasing desire by Kenyans to identify with him.

Thank you so much for that work LMK! I very much enjoyed reading those excerpts. I am struck how the African culture seems to stress Obama's biracialism, more than white America does. Funny thing, that.

Today’s event which is expected to be graced by political leaders across the globe, will no doubt remain as one of the most historic moments in the history of the human race.Although I think this statement is a bit over the top, the inauguration of Barack Obama as President of the United States was a historically important moment.

Birthers believe that as well, and they don't like it one bit. They want to undo that moment and to continue in their little bubble of fiction where WASP men rule the country (and the world).

Funny thing, that.I seem to recall noted racist Rush Limbaugh repeatedly insulting Obama with epithets like "Halfrican" to mock his biracial heritage. The "argument," such as it was, really just a racist slur, was that somehow, Obama wasn't even really black. Meanwhile, the same racist, Limbaugh, would play songs like "Barack the Magic Negro," again to emphasize Obama's blackness.

Excellent article, W4! I will add it to the list!

Thank you so much for that work LMK! I very much enjoyed reading those excerpts.

I am struck how the African culture seems to stress Obama's biracialism, more than white America does. Funny thing, that. :-* White, middle-aged RWNJs are feeling quite threatened by biracialism/multiracialism. There are too many brown people, dammit!

Minorities vote for Dems. Soon, the current minority will be the majority. America will be very interesting when that happens.

I seem to recall noted racist Rush Limbaugh repeatedly insulting Obama with epithets like "Halfrican" to mock his biracial heritage. The "argument," such as it was, really just a racist slur, was that somehow, Obama wasn't even really black. Meanwhile, the same racist, Limbaugh, would play songs like "Barack the Magic Negro," again to emphasize Obama's blackness.I am so sick of RWNJs say that Obama is "1/2 white". If any of us crossed a man of Obama's coloring on the street, we would identify him as "black".

But I forget; Obama is 1/2 White, 40% Arab and 10% black! (Or is it 80% Arab, 12% white and 6% black?) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,)

I didn't know this, but Chip Saltsman, who was hoping to become the chairman of the RNC in 2008, distributed "Barack, the Magic Negro" as a "Christmas greeting to committee members"!

[link]RNC candidate Chip Saltsman's Christmas greeting,http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/12/2 ... 53585.html[/link] to committee members includes a music CD with lyrics from a song called "Barack the Magic Negro," first played on Rush Limbaugh's popular radio show.

Saltsman, a personal friend of conservative satirist Paul Shanklin, sent a 41-track CD along with a note to national committee members...

...The CD, called "We Hate the USA," lampoons liberals with such songs as "John Edwards' Poverty Tour," "Wright place, wrong pastor," "Love Client #9," "Ivory and Ebony" and "The Star Spanglish banner."

Several of the track titles, including "Barack the Magic Negro," are written in bold font.
