I always enjoy the parade of nations. I think NBC tape delayed it, and so even though they cut to commercials quite often I think we saw all the nations. (Google "Tonga flag bearer" images for a treat.)

I'm an Olympic junkie. If you have a cable or dish provider, you can watch lots of live streaming on NBCOLYMPICS.COM - for example, today I'm watching the women's gymnastics qualifying. I mean, I like beach volleyball but the coverage on TV is way excessive IMO.

I like to see all the sports that we only see once every 4 years, like archery and table tennis. And the women's rugby - those ladies are badass!

I got up early to watch the Women's Individual Sabre, and Ibithiaj Muhammad won her match - it was a beautifully aggressive dance between her and her opponent both in style and points - her opponent lost by two points. She was amazing. I am TeamIbithiaj!!!

Men's individual foil was fun yesterday. Alexander Massialas took Silver. FWIW, my brother, the Yeti, is an assistant coach at Massialas Fencing in San Francisco. We have a love of the stabby arts in my fambly.

The man's gymnastics team finals are underway. Lots of disappointment so far. The US, Germany and China are struggling to move up from the bottom of the rankings. Russia, Japan and Great Britain are in the fight for medals.

Whoa! China is now on fire! Moved to 3nd place and challenging Russia and Japan for gold. Less than one point difference between them.

Jeebus. Just wait for track and field.

(I note that the gymnastics team includes two African Americans, a Nice Jewish Girl, a Latina and a literally token white. (She's there for one event and one event only.) Not Donald Drumpf's favorite team. Believe me.

Hey! That token haole fills a major gap in the team! She's reliable and strong on the uneven bars and has a strong chance to win an individual medal.

Meanwhile... a member of the US men's team just fall off the high bar.

Side note: I watched Venus lose her match this weekend, wow. And then both her and Serena lose the doubles. Ouch ouch. :(
