I watched the first episode of The Romanoffs on Amazon Prime last night. I found that first story delightful, really charming and elegant. The second episode not so much; another tiresome mid life crisis with marital angst. (I didn't see much of it, so don't take my word for it.) I will continue watching the show tonight, though, because the next story stars Christina Hendricks and Isabelle Huppert, two actresses I admire.
I felt the same as you about the 1st two episodes and was prepared to finish the season out this weekend, but Amazon is releasing the rest of the episodes one per week on Fridays. Bummer.

I didn't notice that, thanks. Next weekend then.

As this hellish week ends, I went looking for something to watch that might deliver me from the MAGA miseries. Fortune smiled; I found Season 3 of The Durrells in Corfu. It worked. I am off to bed feeling halfway human. :)

Bodyguard

A binge-worthy London Metro Police mini-series on Netflix streaming - Afghan vet with untreated PTSD becomes the bodyguard for the home secretary with plenty of intrigue and political drama to follow.

Conspiracy stories are hard to pull off. The worst ones are ham handed, and obvious. This one is well crafted and well played. It's the best of the best whodunnits. You don't feel betrayed by the writers in the end. Truly delicious story.

Agreed on Bodyguard. It looks really good. I've only seen the first episode, so far, but I plan to get back to it.

I was already into The Heavy Water War; Norwegian w/English subtitles, in six parts, on Amazon Prime/MHz. I'm finding it very interesting, engrossing. This is when the Nazis invaded Norway and Denmark to access the needed ingredient to make atomic bombs. It's heavy on the science and scientists, but also covers the resistance sabotage and espionage, in cooperation with the Brits. Fascinating stuff, so I'll move on to Bodyguard after I'm done.

I watched The Haunting of Hill House on Netflix and really, creepily, enjoyed it. It's about equal parts horror and psychology, obviously abnormal psychology.

I'm also slowly catching up with the first two season of American Horror Show. I started it in Season 3 on TV. I finished the first season and am slowly working through the second, but I haven't been much in the mood this week. The old season story lines have shown up in this year's season, and I was glad I had watched Season 1 before this season went too far. Some of the seasons creep me out so much I only loosely watch them, and I think Season 2 is like that, too. I like horror, am not a fan of too much gore.

I liked Hill House too. I read it in high school first. I thought that naming one of the characters Shirley was cool. She was the mistress of psychological horror.

It was so good, Mrs and I savored Bodyguard limiting ourselves to two episodes a night. She has difficulty sitting up for too long lately, but this show had her leaning forward totally engrossed. So, bit bonus there.

Man in the High Castle
I wish it wasn’t so damn topical.

We just binged through three seasons. Addie are you still watching? Season 4 is in production. Oy.

I want to get back to High Castle.

Instead I'm doing House of Cards.

I still do watch, Kate, but not steady. There's so much good tv these days that some shows I keep around, tuning in and out, now and then.

As a palate cleanser, we began watching The West Wing from the pilot. It’s both uplifting and depressing. :daydream: :crying:
We know how it once was, might be again.

Listen, the deplorables have done one job that no one wanted to tackle: beginning the remantling of Democracy. The hard part was always to start tearing it apart. But :shh: don’t tell them. If they think we aren’t owned by it they might put it back - badly. We’ll do it better.

I'm presently doing the same ... as escapist porn.

(But I'm planning on stopping after the fourth season.)

I so like that option, I get access earlier and plug the headphones into the laptop and enjoy at any hour. Plus I can turn Starz off after the season is over.

I found a stream for Young Sheldon. This is a show anyone here could love. Smart and sassy writing. Terrific cast. Thanks to MRich, I think it was, for recommending it. :-D

Adding:

The Bodyguard was excellent. I don't think I once looked away from the screen.

The Saints kicking everyone's ass, leaving a path of destruction through the NFL. I'm limiting myself to watching once a week to hold onto the excitement as long as possible.

If West Wing is escapist and insufficient, "Madam Secretary" may be supplemented. I believe Prime, but possibly Hulu.

Rachel Bloom is so talented. She also did some videos pre-CE-G, and they are hilarious.
