Welcome home SLQ! This sounds like a really good thing. You get along, not a guaranteed thing by any means, in any family! The peace your dad feels now is golden; your time with him, too.

💕

PS It still could be sciatica. It’s evil.

We're off to New Caledonia in two days. I would say I'll be thinking of you, but let's face it, I won't. All I can think of now are those white sandy beaches and the beautiful little city that is Nouméa.

So true. When my mom lived with us at various times she didn't have any responsibility like at her house. She was a guest and a fun, loving one. Our youngest got to see Grandma in a new way.

Youza good egg to take in your dad and do all that you did and are doing for him. You win the Fogbow Good and Loving Daughter Award! :bighug:

Thanks! (Thankfully, it's mostly better today. I pray it doesn't return. I really wanted to cry on the days -- mostly nights -- that the pain was relentless.)

Thanks, my friend. It just sort of happened this way, but it's working out well for the time being. I do enjoy my own little space, though. I got my spare FireTV Stick out last night, so I now have tv in my little office/bedroom. Yay! (And once I get the bluetooth speaker tomorrow, I'll have audio to go with it. :geek: )

SLQ--

I'm glad to hear things are working out with your dad. I hope things continue to go well.

I just want to put in a word here for VA benefits. My dad always kept his discharge papers in a safe place and made sure we always knew where they were. They were easy to locate when he died and as it turned out my mother needed them at that same time. I had no idea how much those papers would help her. My dad died a week after my mother went into assisted living. We knew he was dying at the time. When my mother moved from a rehab to assisted living, the rehab assigned a volunteer to help us find a place for her. He was the one who told us how the VA would help my mom. It made all the difference in the world, and over the next seven years of her life paid around $1,000 a month to help with the cost of her assisted living. I don't know what we would have done without the VA. From my experience of talking with others since, I don't think people realize how important those discharge papers are to the family of anyone who has served in wartime.
And it could still be sciatica. I've had it on both sides and it's often the calf and thigh rather than the back of my legs. Good luck on that one!

I know my nephew had to go through a few hoops to help my father-in-law, a veteran (and POW) of WWII. FIL's papers were at the National Personnel Records Center in St. Louis. A fire there in '73 "destroyed 80 percent of the records held for Veterans who were discharged from the Army between November 1, 1912 and January 1, 1960."

I wonder, has anyone seen TexasFilly around the other sites? The last I heard from her was in September and I haven't noticed her posting on TFB. Thank you.

Filly’s last visit post was Oct 3, when she excused herself by saying ‘I have an appointment I need to get to.’ :?

ETA: Her last visit was Oct 6.

I disappeared from TFB on Friday and have just now reappeared. That was because my C. diff. infection flared again, necessitating a stay at our community hospital. Fine now. Cisco missed me greatly.

I’m working at my neighborhood polling place tomorrow. It’s about an 18 hour shift. It’s entirely possible we’ll close on our new home early, by 19 Nov. Also too I’m hosting Thanksgiving for 20. :eek2:

I’ll be around tomorrow, late, for the celebration, but I’m not sure how much time I’ll have before TDay. So let me wish y’all a happy, happy Thanksgiving, the best in two years!

So much news going on! But we have 7 hours of driving today. Try to avoid news while driving. Its safer that way.
