Today is a HUGE important holiday for us agnostics and those who worship the Yellow Ball of Fire that Crosses the Sky.

"Are you Tan from the Sun?"

"Why, yes. Yes I am."

"Well, howdy, I'm Foggy from Earth."

Up here near the Arctic Circle the sun doesn't set until 9:32 tonight. And then it's still light until about 10 PM. It's confusing at first, but then we get sad when the sunsets occur at 8:30 because that means we will soon have to move south. Hell, we're living in the moment now.

I loved being in Stockholm in late June with my lady friend for the Fourth International AIDS Conference (1988). I learned a lot during the day and enjoyed the happy people of Stockholm during the long nights. Some of the best seafood I have ever had.

It is odd that no Christian celebration is built around the summer solstice and the autumnal equinox.

We used to go up to Alaska a lot. We were there our third time in the winter. It's the only time I ever saw it dark in Alaska. It's kind of tough at first; you don't know when to end your day. We were in Iceland two years ago in May. The hotel had black-out drapes on all the windows. If you wanted to sleep, you needed them.

So I have a buddy in my exercise class who's black. Today I held my forearm next to his to compare tans. He looked at me and said, "You've got a ways to go, dude." And it doesn't help me get super tan if the days are getting shorter. :madguy:
