Cool Quotes

Post by Mikedunford »

I've been going through an old file of quotes I've got on one of my computers, and came upon this wonderful little bit of The Bard:the times have been, That, when the brains were out, the man would die,Don't know what made me think that's appropriate for this board.
"I don't give a fuck whether we're peers or not."
--Lord Thomas Henry Bingham to Boris Johnson, on being asked whether he would miss being in "the best club in London" if the Law Lords moved from Parliament to a Supreme Court.

Went to see if we had a quote thread - totally forgot I'd started this one years ago.

Here's one that popped into my head today:

"when the juggler misses the first chainsaw it is only the start of his problems. Some more will be along shortly."
Terry Pratchett
Jingo
"I don't give a fuck whether we're peers or not."
--Lord Thomas Henry Bingham to Boris Johnson, on being asked whether he would miss being in "the best club in London" if the Law Lords moved from Parliament to a Supreme Court.

Maybe if we start calling it Father Earth instead of Mother Earth, the GOP will stop trying to fuck it.
-- The Volatile Mermaid@OhNoSheTwitnt
We've GOT to stop asking "how goddamned stupid can these people get?" Because a lot of them are taking that as a challenge.
-- Jim Wright http://www.stonekettle.com
When did ignorance become a point of view? Why should stupid get a seat at the table?
Why can’t I attract men like crazy, instead of attracting crazy men?
-- Nurse Ratched's Place
Having been called names, one looks back at one's own angry outbursts over the years, and I recall having once referred to Republicans as "hairy backed swamp developers, fundamentalist bullies, freelance racists, hobby cops, sweatshop tycoons, line jumpers, marsupial moms and aluminum siding salesmen, misanthropic frat boys, ninja dittoheads, shrieking midgets, tax cheats, cheese merchants, cat stranglers, pill pushers, nihilists in golf pants, backed-up Baptists, the grand pooh-bahs of Percodan, mouth breathers, testosterone junkies and brownshirts in pinstripes."
I look at those words now, and "cat stranglers" seems excessive to me.
-- Garrison Keillor
There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world.
The other, of course, involves orcs.
-- Kung Fu Monkey
I've heard this bull before.

Beloveds, these are some bad, ugly, angry times. And I am so freaked out. Hatred has stolen the conversation. The poor are now voting against themselves. But politics is not about left or right. It’s about up and down. The few screwing the many.
-- Molly Ivins
…a riot is the language of the unheard. And what is it America has failed to hear?...It has failed to hear that the promises of freedom and justice have not been met. And it has failed to hear that large segments of white society are more concerned about tranquility and the status quo than about justice and humanity.
-- The Other America" speech by Rev. Martin Luther King, March 14, 1968
Trump is idolized by a group that's usually ignored by politicians, employers and anyone who isn’t a probation officer.
-- cafe@cafedotcom
The Tea Party built these little bridges between fringe & mainstream. Trump has built an 18-lane superhighway.
-- journeman@esgetology
If you want to solve the problem of too many people gaining jobs and insurance, there's only one solution: vote GOP.

FYI: 32,000 Americans die of of gun violence every year.
0 die of political correctness.

-- @LOLGOP
The deep divide in the Republican party isn't between moderates & hard right but between asylum guards & inmates. I'd say Inmate 52%, Guards 48%
- Jeet Heer
It's always the white men who go crazy because they don't get everything they want out of life, something the rest of us learn to deal with at comparatively young ages.

We need to start telling kids that "Life isn't fair" a lot earlier, especially middle-class white boys.

On Nixon;

Nixon bleeds people. He will drain every drop of blood and drop them from a cliff. He'll blame every person he can put his foot on.
Martha Mitchell

I worship the quicksand he walks on.
Art Buchwald

Richard Nixon is a no good, lying bastard. He can lie out of both sides of his mouth at the same time, and if he ever caught himself telling the truth, he'd lie just to keep his hand in.
Harry S Truman

Nixon is a shifty-eyed goddamn liar. . . . .He's one of the few in the history of this country to run for high office talking out of both sides of his mouth at the same time and lying out of both sides.
Truman

Nixon is the kind of Politician that would cut down a Redwood, then mount the stump for a Speech on conservation
Adlai Stevenson

President Nixon's motto was; If 2 wrongs don't make a right, try three.
Norman Cousins

Nixon is the kind of guy that, if you were drowning 20 feet from shore, would throw you 15 feet of rope.
Eugene McCarthy

The Integrity of a Hyena and the style of a Poison Toad
Hunter S Thompson

It is quote extraordinary! He will even tell a lie even when it is not convenient to. That is the sign of a great artist.
Gore Vidal
