All Dogz Worthy
Re: All Dogz Worthy
I was in Honolulu today, and my offspring surprised me with a belated mother's day gift. A portrait of Ted doing what he loves the most - head out the car window, wind blowing back his ears and fur.

HIGH SCHOOL CROSS-COUNTRY TEAM TAKES LONELY SHELTER DOGS ON THEIR MORNING RUNS
Members of the St. Joseph High School cross-country team in California invited more than a dozen shelter dogs to accompany them on their morning run this week.
Each teammate was paired with a dog from the Santa Barbara County Animal Shelter before heading out for a long run as one big happy group.
"I am not sure who was more excited and having the most fun ... the dogs or the kids," coach Luis Escobar said. "Either way, it was a great time and I am sure we will do it again sometime soon."
Hopefully this becomes a regular thing, and that it inspires other schools to try it out, too!

That doggie taking his first freedom hike is too cute. Reminds me of Maggie, my beloved best friend for life, who passed the Rainbow Bridge many years ago. She used to run around the back yard and every few feet or so she would leap like a deer. Everyone always got such a kick out of it, my mother still brings it up every now and then. I think she jumped out of pure joy. She was a rescue who had a particularly tragic life until she was rescued from animal control by a friend and then permanently adopted by me. Maggie was going to be put down, but my friend planted herself in the office of the head of animal control and said she was not leaving without that dog. Longish story. But very happy ending for her and me, she lived a long and happy life with me, and I almost just can't stand that she's not around any more.

Ugh, that dog food problem is a problem. (One of the foods we feed is potentially problematic, but it's the first food that didn't cause our Athena bad allergies. So now we figure out if it's more than a potential problem and go from there. I'm sure she wouldn't mind a home-made diet.)
We're used to being told it's our fault that men don't listen to us.

Video evidence of EGREGIOUS behavior available at link.Presidential candidate misbehavior, campaign suspended
You know, you offer your dog up as a presidential candidate—as people do— when someone says they would vote for a dog over Trump. That a dog would do a better job than Trump.
So I started the Bailey 2020 campaign, the entirety of which consisted of posting a picture of Bailey here and there on DailyKos.
He’s a two year old rescue mini Aussie, smart as a whip, but with that common and exasperating fault: He wants people food all the time.
Yes, he eats dog food. But he really wants your food.
I’m not just talking about the remnants of a burger or tuna sandwich. This dog stuck his nose into a glass of V-8 juice and slurped it all up.
But after last night I’m suspending Bailey 2020 because of egregious misbehavior unsuitable for a presidential candidate.

After FDA warning about grain-free pet food, what's safe to feed our pets?
Veterinary nutrition specialists say pet food labels often focus on ingredients rather than nutrition.

Petfoodology reports:
Veterinary nutrition specialists say pet food labels often focus on ingredients rather than nutrition.
https://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-n ... s-n1026881
The article recommends buying pet food from major companies since any problems will be discovered sooner.Since 2018, the FDA has been investigating more than 500 reports of canine dilated cardiomyopathy that appears to be linked to dog foods marketed as grain free. But for the majority of dogs, it's not yet clear what is causing the heart disease, experts say.
![]()
But the question pet owners ought to have been asking was why they should be avoiding grains in the first place.
That’s where the internet could have helped, Larsen said. While there is a lot of misinformation online, there are some reputable and trustworthy sites that help pet owners learn the facts. Both Lerner and Michel point to the website for the World Small Animal Veterinary Association, which has a page for nutrition guidelines.
The site also has a page that answers common nutrition questions and dashes myths. It’s there that owners can learn that cereal grains are not bad for dogs or cats, that so-called byproducts are not bad for pets, and the potential dangers associated with raw diets and bones.
Another good source of information, experts say, is the Petfoodology blog run by nutritionists at Tufts University. The blog has recently taken up topics such as “red flags” on the ingredient list and terms such as “human grade.”
Petfoodology reports:
https://vetnutrition.tufts.edu/2018/11/dcm-update/It’s not just grain-free. This does not appear to be just an issue with grain-free diets. I am calling the suspected diets, “BEG” diets – boutique companies, exotic ingredients, or grain-free diets. The apparent link between BEG diets and DCM may be due to ingredients used to replace grains in grain-free diets, such as lentils or chickpeas, but also may be due to other common ingredients commonly found in BEG diets, such as exotic meats, vegetables, and fruits. In addition, not all pet food manufacturers have the same level of nutritional expertise and quality control, and this variability could introduce potential issues with some products.

Don't touch any pig ear treats or feed them to your dog, the FDA and CDC say

(CNN) Dog owners, if you've been waiting to give up your pet's pig ears, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advises that now is the time. A warning about a multistate salmonella outbreak tied to the treats has been updated to include all pig ear products.
