Very sorry for your loss. Sometimes the old cats are the sweetest.
My Korat, Sammy, made his way through diabetes by eliminating carbohydrates from his diet. But geriatric kidney failure got him. I spent several weeks infusing saline solution into his skin (to which he never objected), knowing that the end was near. One night he took his regular cuddling place (between the pillows beside my head). At some point he got up to pee, something that he did religiously in the litter box. He could not muster the strength to get back on the bed and died on the carpet. I woke to find him there. I think I was grateful that I did not have to euthanize him. My last real memory is of a purring cat snuggled warmly beside me.
