Tricksy has a zone along the edge of my side that she considers the prime hiding spot for bed mice. She gets her toesies up under the top sheet and lunges up to get they mousies. Sadly, my butt is usually in that zone.

OK, you two. Sounds like my Tulip comes to visit you! She's expert at pushing on full bladders. Especially in the wee hours of the morning and I'm trying my best to fall back asleep.

Ok Cat people. I need something explained.

Our cat Eris (about 1.5 years old, was a stray that D's brother took in and then we got her when he had hip surgery). She has been acting very strangely lately. She seems to be afraid of her own tail.

She will attack her tail, then of course yowl when she bites it. Then she runs away, from her tail. Or seems to be trying to do that. But her tail is twitchy to begin with, but she is chasing it.

Is this normal cat behavior? I know dogs will do it as puppies and cats will sometimes do it as kittens. Unless they are my Lola, whose tail surprises her daily.

I'm just kinda worried that it's not really normal behavior.

I haven't ever heard of it, but here is something I found when I did some googling

https://www.cuteness.com/article/cat-ta ... s-diseases

Short excerpt below
Feline Hyperesthesia Syndrome
Also called rolling skin disease, pyschomotor epilepsy and neurodermatitis, feline hyperesthesia syndrome is considered a behavioral disorder more than a disease of the tail. A cat with this condition may:

Stare at her tail and then attack her tail or her sides
Bite her tail base, front legs and paws
Vocalize while running wildly
Demonstrate rolling or rippling on the skin on her back
Experience pain when the back muscles are touched
Feline hyperesthesia syndrome doesn't have a specific cause and it's a condition that is diagnosed through a process of elimination. After ruling out other conditions related to skin, muscular and nervous system involvement the vet often will settle on the diagnosis of feline hyperesthesia syndrome. Treatment usually combines behavior modification and medication.

Most of what I found by googling the behavior you described also mentions the same condition I found above. Here are some more links.

https://www.thesprucepets.com/cat-attac ... ail-553998
https://pets.thenest.com/cat-chasing-its-tail-8649.html

here is more info on this disorder, a longer article that describes it in more detail, including possible causes.

Thanks RV.

I'm a dog person, not a cat person, so was totally mystified and wasn't sure what to google.

Does the skin on her back sometimes ripple, like her tail twitches? Someone gave me a cat some years ago who did what yours does plus his skin rippled like crazY, like there were ants in his fur. He was old, though. He was old, very old, and on his way home, so we massaged his back with avocado oil, as if his skin was dry. It soothed.

That is one of the symptoms of the condition that I kept finding whenever I was googling what Jez was describing - the rippling skin! Wow, that is amazing.

Our kitteh Abby got an infection in a nostril a few weeks ago. We've run through two different bottles of antibiotics, but she still has the infection, it's not getting better. We took her to the vet today and they discovered that she also has an extremely enlarged kidney. It would cost $400 just to find out if it's cancer, and then there's no treatment for it - they don't do chemo for cats. And she would suffer longer. She can't eat and has lost a lot of weight. It's sad but we're going to have to let her go.

I'm going to go up there and say goodbye. Very sad day.

My kittehs send you their sorrow but mostly their thanks for giving Abalooney a safe and loving home. It’s a big deal to them, apparently.
