This is my Tricksy-looking Miss Lucille Parker Purrer.
She's way bigger than she looks in the picture but it was too hot for me to bend down to her level to take the photo.

Altogether too cute and I think she has it down to a fare thee well.

I would say well, note she is allowing the fur parent to read the book, as opposed to sitting on said book.

Our lynx-point Siamese boy Yokai crossed the rainbow bridge yesterday. He's the little grey cat in my avatar picture (that pic was taken when he was a baby, he got much bigger and darker).

Last week I noticed he seemed to have lost weight suddenly. He had just been seen by the vet in March, but I didn't want to wait for his six month checkup, so I got him in on Saturday. He'd lost a pound and a half. The only thing wrong the vet could find on exam was that he had bad gingivitis and chin acne. She took blood and sent us home with a shampoo for the chin acne. We thought perhaps the weight loss was because his mouth was hurting and he wasn't eating kibble, so we tripled the amount of canned food he is given. He perked up for a couple of days. On the evening of 7/3, the vet called with his test results, he had signs of kidney disease. She recommended a special diet and some follow up tests. On 7/4, he seemed to be breathing slightly heavily, but it didn't seem to be an emergency so we just kept an eye on him, and made sure he ate canned food and drank some water (we even put ice cubes in the water).

On Thursday I had to work. I was almost there on the train when Mr. K called, very upset, saying Yokai had taken a turn for the worse. I got to the office, told them what's happening, and got back on the train and bus to go home. When I got home, Yokai was breathing very hard, almost gasping. We got him to the vet, who told us he seemed to have a lot of fluid in or around his lungs, they put him on oxygen while we considered our options. None of them were good, so we went with the option of ending his suffering. Clearly something had gone catastrophically wrong. The doctor thought it was either cancer or a heart problem, but whatever it was had clearly advanced very quickly.

This sucks.

Thanks everyone.

This morning I did my usual Sunday farmers market run, including picking up a kitty grass from the nice guy who sells wheatgrass and sprouts.

Got home and cried because Yokai was the cat who loved the kitty grass the most. The other three like it, but he loved to rub his face in it and on the container.

Tomorrow I get to order his urn, which will actually be pretty easy because it's the same pet crematory we've used before and I can just say I want the same urn. It's still going to suck.

The other cats seem to be coping OK. They liked him a lot, but were avoiding him the last couple of days. They always know when somethings up.

Kitty doesn't like not being the center of attention.
