That’s why you always put the ham on the pizza first!

Mmmm, I love Hawai’ian pizza!
Or our favorite, Canadian Bacon.

Our invention, the Dietary Supplement Pizza:

Canadian Bacon for the intense flavor with low volume.
Pineapple for the digestive aid of the bromelains (proteolytic enzymes).
Black Olives for the polyphenols.
Chicken for the protein.
Banana Peppers for the capsaicin and flavor.

All on thin crust, to minimize carbs. Yummm!

Edit: (And we don't give a rat's ass how un-Italian it is. So there. ;) )

Yum. I pile them on, but after cooking the pizza, not ever before.

Here's the next nail biter -

Big Island Lava Flows Reach Site Of Geothermal Plant
http://www.civilbeat.org/2018/05/big-is ... mal-plant/
Lava erupting from the Kilauea volcano has reached the property of a geothermal power plant where toxic gas lurks in underground wells, the head of the state emergency management agency said Monday.

So far, a berm has halted the advance of the lava at about 200 to 300 meters from the wells of Puna Geothermal Venture.

But if the lava interacts with the wells of the Puna Geothermal Venture, it could trigger an uncontrolled release of deadly hydrogen sulfide, Thomas Travis, administrator of the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency said during a press conference Monday.

When the Puna Geothermal Venture is operating normally, the wells feed steam into a turbine that produces 25 percent of the Big Island’s electricity.

@GeoGolfHawaii
Fissure 6/ 13/ 15 looks to be pooling against the hill on Kahukai and not flowing towards Hinalo st and Pohoiki, the pool is spreading outwards, including towards PGV where it has already claimed a warehouse. #LeilaniEstates #KilaueaVolcano #Kilauea

12:17 PM - May 22, 2018
Red arrow shows the lost warehouse. First PGV structures are 1500 feet to the NE of that warehouse.

So we can all satisfy our inner chemists here are the reactions that create the HCl gas in laze when hot lava meets sea water-

MgCl2 (from the sea salt) + H2O => MgO (periclase) + 2HCl
2 NaCl (from the sea salt) + H2O => Na2O (sodium oxide) + 2 HCL
CaCl2 (from the sea salt) + H2O => CaO (lime) + 2 HCL

Fountains are about 50m high, so the ramparts could be 10-20 m or more.
For those interested fissure 20 is located at about 13-514 Hinalo St, Pāhoa, HI 96778. Fissure 22 is about 1/3 mile to the SW.

A video from the owner of the house we are live-streaming from in Puna. John Davidson shows why you shouldn't walk out onto the fresh lava field in front of his house.

Isn't that just a wee bit too close to stand by those cracks?

Those cracks are located in Leilani Estates. They are halfway between fissures 8 and 9 which are only about 2500 feet apart from eachother. If it were me I would be long gone.

I wish the main stream media would take a moment to clarify with a map (like the one above) where exactly this is taking place. Some people are freaking out like the entire state is under imminent danger.

Where those cracks were is now covered in a few feet of lava.

How is the Puna Thermal Venture doing? Have they closed down during the eruptions? Are they generating more power because of them?

Inquiring minds busybodies want to know.

They're trying really hard to shut down and cap the last of their wells so that lava doesn't pour down into it creating a big boom and releasing a bunch more toxic gas.

The last well has been shut down.

From my quick reads and the photos of the eruptions to date, the lava flows have been a'a' lavas. The video that volkonski just posted looks more like a pahoehoe flow.

The old geology joke about Hawaiian lavas is that the term a'a' was coined by Hawaiians because that is what they said trying to walk across it. I've not been to Hawaii, but from what I've heard walking across a new a'a' lava bed will shred a new pair of leather boots into cole slaw.

Pahoehoe lava flows are much less viscous and leave a rope-like surface.

An a'a' example:
