So far, we have been lucky with this storm. We got a little bit of a rainy/snowy mix, but nothing that adds up to much. It's a lot worse in other parts of the state.

We were on Saguenay Peninsula a few years ago and talked to a few women who had nothing nice to say about the winters there. They just pretty much spent the entire winter depressed and stir crazy. I imagine this is pretty much what they live with, too.

They were saying this (Jacob) was a Polar storm, sounds like they were more than right, and we, Midwest, south, and NE just got the side skirt tails of it, being in Canada has to be considerably worse.

I cleared out the driveway and nasty berm the city left after they plowed the street three times. The snow blower took a tank and a half of gas. That gas tank is yuuge. The berm, plus another drift that was about ten feet wide and completely across the driveway for my three car garage, were both four feet deep. I bought an aluminium grain scoop when I first moved here. Good thing, too, because I had to chop those up before making each pass with the machine.

Yeah, I have a plastic grain shovel to break things up if need be. They come in handy.

Because of the contours of my lot, my 3-car garage funnels to just a single car width for 1/2 its length. I truly appreciate that when it comes to clearing the end of my driveway. Zeke, you have my sympathy!

Another picture perfect day in Houston! Temps will drop quickly this evening with patchy frost possible before sunrise. http://abc13.com/weather
:nooo:

I've been feeling cold all day. Mrs. V. doesn't like the thermostats to be set higher than 69F.

The invasive species can't handle cold temperatures very well because they are cold-blooded. In general, iguanas begin to get sluggish or lethargic once the temperature drops below 50 degrees Fahrenheit.

Once the temperature drops below 45 degrees Fahrenheit the iguanas go into a dormant or cold-stunned state. They appear to be dead, but they are not. They remain breathing with critical body functions still operating.

It is their body's way of protecting them until the temperature warms up back up above 50 degrees.

If those temperatures remain in the 40s for periods over eight hours, a significant number of those iguanas will die, especially the smaller ones.

This is Mark Critch from This Hour Has 22 Minutes talking about the blizzard in Newfoundland. It’s true they are the warmest, most generous people around. :lovestruck: I lived with a Newfie for several years and this video describes him and his friends to a T.

These fellows get pretty big. I guess if one hit you on the noggin, it might do a bit of damage. Of course, we deal falling coconuts all the time.

It took about 5 years of being back in CA before I finally threw my trusty ice scraper away. I’ve never looked back.

We've been in SW FL for eight years and I still have one. But to be fair, it has a squeegee on the other end.

I always feel better at the end of January. The days are getting longer - today's sunset is 5:19, a 47 minute improvement over much of December's 4:32 sunset. And the sun is higher in the sky. At this point much of winter is behind us and the warmer March temperatures are definitely nearing.

I'm starting a movement to change leap years from February 29 to June 31. An extra day of summer, not winter!
Buckle up, peeps, this ride is gonna get BUMPY.
