The people defending the McMichaels say it was self-defense because Arbery was reaching for Travis' gun.

How could it be self defense if Travis had no reason to point a gun at him?

Those trying to justify the shooting claim that the McMichaels were undertaking a citizens arrest.

They ignore the requirement that a citizens arrest may only use appropriate force and that Travis cannot claim Stand Your Ground defense since he initiated the confrontation while armed.

They also ignore the issue that Arberly had reason to believe that he was being illegally confronted by armed gunmen and thus under those same Stand Your Ground laws he was entitled to use force, including deadly force, in his defense.

But.. the gunmen were white, he was black and the rest follows. :madguy:

By Minyvonne Burke and Courtney Kube
A gunman opened fire at Naval Air Station Corpus Christi on Thursday, wounding at least one security force member in a "terrorism related" attack, authorities said.

The coastal base in Nueces County, Texas, about 140 miles southeast of San Antonio, was on lockdown after security responded to an active shooter around 6:15 a.m.

The shooter was initially called "neutralized," the base said in a Facebook post, before FBI agents confirmed later that he had been fatally shot at the scene.

The injured security force member is in good condition and expected to survive.

"We have determined that the incident this morning at the Naval Air Station in Corpus Christi is terrorism related," said FBI Senior Supervisory Special Agent Leah Greeves, who did not offer any further details.

"We may have a potential second related person of interest at large in the community.

Weird. They've determined it's "terrorism related" and have a potential second suspect at large but give the public no information? Maybe the description of a vehicle?

This Air Station also has foreign pilots training there. Is this another Al Queda affiliate member? Keep America Safe Again?

CNN making connection, sort of:
Thursday's shooting took place just days after the FBI and the Justice Department announced it had found a link between al Qaeda and a Saudi military trainee who killed three US sailors and wounded several others in a terror attack last year on Naval Air Station Pensacola.

The victim was taken to Memorial Hermann Greater Heights and was in critical condition, Finner said.

Daily Beast: Manhunt Underway for Armed-to-Teeth UConn Student Wanted in Deadly Rampage ...

The suspect, Peter Manfredonia, 23, is believed to be driving a stolen black Volkswagen Jetta that has a bumper sticker paying tribute to victims of the Sandy Hook massacre in his hometown of Newtown.

Police have been looking for Manfredonia since Friday when he was seen leaving the scene of a brutal assault on two older men.

Cynthia DeMers, whose husband Theodore was killed, told the Hartford Courant that Manfredonia had been walking down their road in Willington and needed a ride to his motorcycle. ...

Minutes after her husband and neighbor left with the suspect, her husband and the other man were found. DeMers could not be revived, and police said the second victim’s injuries were extremely serious. They did not describe the injuries.

It’s believed that on Saturday night, Manfredonia broke into a house in Willington, swiped long guns and a pistol and a car—which was later found abandoned after a crash near Osbornedale State Park in Derby. ...

Hours later, police said they believed Manfredonia had escaped the area. Even more chillingly, they said the investigation had determined that his most recent stop was the home of an acquaintance, where he killed the person and stole the Jetta that is now the target of the search.

‘This Is Me And My Crew, Bro’: Accused Felon Admits Stealing Guns To Undercover Agent
May 23, 2020 at 3:30 pm

DENVER (CBS4) — Four men were caught by federal agents in an undercover operation Tuesday in Arvada. The four were charged Thursday with the theft of firearms from gun store in late April and the sale of those weapons.

Twenty-one guns were stolen from Eagles Nest Armory at 3:45 a.m. that day.

Surveillance video released by the Arvada Police Department showed four individuals pulling up to the business in a black SUV, breaking into the store’s back door with a pry tool, and running back to the vehicle and driving off four minutes after arriving.

Two brothers, Norberto and Victor Valdez-Esquivel, their nephew Daniel Esquivel, and acquaintance Tristan Molinar, each face up to five years in prison and a quarter of a million dollar fine, if found guilty.

The men were nabbed with the help of a confidential informant who introduced an undercover agent to them. One of the suspects, Noberto Valdez-Esquivel, told the informant he had guns to sell, that they were stolen, and that he knew the person who stole them.

Ft. Leavenworth soldier stops active shooter on Centennial Bridge by striking him with vehicle

https://www.kron4.com/news/ft-leavenwor ... h-vehicle/
Leavenworth Police Chief Patrick Kitchens said officers were called to the bridge at 11 a.m. for a report of shots fired that was originally reported as a result of road rage. When officers arrived they found one man with a gunshot wound and another man trapped under a car. Emergency crews took both to a Kansas City hospital with serious injuries.

As police investigated and spoke with witnesses they learned it wasn’t a road rage incident, but an active shooter who was stopped in the act.

“Learned this was an active shooter with multiple weapons on the bridge firing at cars with no particular association. There was an active-duty soldier assigned to Ft. Leavenworth waiting in traffic behind the event, saw the event unfold, determined it was an active shooter and intervened by striking the shooter with his vehicle, causing him to be critically injured, ending the encounter with the active shooter and likely saving countless lives,” Chief Kitchens said.

The man who suffered a gunshot wound is also an active duty soldier at Ft. Leavenworth. The shooter is a Platte County resident.

NBC News: Suspect in California 'ambush' that left deputy dead is active-duty Air Force sergeant

Staff Sgt. Steven Carrillo was stationed at Travis Air Force Base northeast of the San Francisco Bay Area. ...

A suspect arrested in the "ambush" killing of a sheriff's deputy in Santa Cruz County, California, is an active-duty member of the Air Force, an official said Sunday.

The man, Staff Sgt. Steven Carrillo, who authorities said will face murder charges in the killing Saturday of sheriff's Sgt. Damon Gutzwiller, 38, was stationed at Travis Air Force Base, northeast of the San Francisco Bay Area, an Air Force spokesman said. ...

The Associated Press reported that Carrillo's wife, Monika Leigh Scott Carrillo, who was also in the Air Force, was found dead in 2018 at an off-base hotel while she was stationed in South Carolina. Her death was investigated by the Sumter County Sheriff's Office in coordination with the Air Force Office of Special Investigations and ruled a suicide, the AP reported.

The FBI said Sunday that it is investigating whether the Santa Cruz County incident is connected to the killing of a federal officer in Oakland on May 29. Authorities released photos last week of a van believed to have been used in the shooting, which left Dave Patrick Underwood, 53, dead.

With almost 2 decades of constant warfare in 2 theaters, recruiting is getting difficult, so yeah the cracks get bigger than in peace time. :smoking:
