Good. Those 3 buses of Douglas HS students going to the state capitol will keep the story in the news, especially with an embedded NYT reporter going along.

Yes, keep the story in the news. Force the politicians to keep responding to this issue.

It is pathetic that in the direct aftermath of a harrowing trauma, these children are now being subjected to bullying from adults several times their age. To what purpose? To silence them.

I stand with the Parkland students.

It is foolish to attack these students, many of whom could be close to voting age. The rest will be coming of age to vote in another year or two. I don't think it's wise for right wingers to be turning these young people off, all they might be doing is making them feel more comfortable with liberals. Ultimately, attacking them may even harden their resolve.

There were a couple of times that I thought the kids were being asked "loaded" questions. David Hogg and one of the teen girls (I can't remember which one now) were asked what they thought of Trump's tweet where he disparaged the FBI. That is what prompted Hogg to mention that his own father is a retired FBI agent and he didn't appreciate that tweet because in his experience FBI agents were hard working men and women who do their best to keep Americans safe. I really didn't think the teens should have been explicitly asked questions about what they think about certain adults, particularly Trump. It isn't really fair to put these young people in that position. But, they would have been targets anyway because they were already expressing strong opinions about guns - particularly why the shooter was not old enough to vote or drink, but could purchase a military style weapon. I'm not hearing these teens saying anything that makes me believe their actual viewpoints are being manipulated or suggested by adults.

Students across the country are staging Walkouts. https://www.cnn.com/2018/02/21/us/flori ... index.html

Protests continue at the White House.
An official says at least three students from Parkland, where last week's school shooting occurred, will be at the White House today, along with parents and community leaders.

At least three Sandy Hook and Columbine families also will be present.
At the above link. Also at that link:
President Trump will be briefed by White House officials before participating in the listening session with high school students this afternoon, an administration official tells CNN. There will be no prompter for the President at the event, and a White House official says to expect a freewheeling Trump.

Education Secretary Betsy DeVos is expected to moderate the session. Vice President Mike Pence will attend as well.

I am sure that those students talking with Trump have been very carefully vetted and coached on what to tell Trump. It will be heavy on how wonderful it is to meet Trump and light about anything substantial.

Trump expresses support for "concealed carry" for teachers
President Trump said today that he would be closely looking at the idea of secretly arming teachers and coaches so they could stop school shooters before first responders arrive at the scene.

"If you had a teacher who was adept the firearm, they could end the attack very quickly," he said, stating that schools could arm up to 20% of their teachers to stop "maniacs" who may try and attack them.
