2. It's too soon to politicize this by talking about gun control

5 dead after shooting spree in Louisiana

Five people are dead following a string of shootings in Louisiana, law enforcement officials said.

Two shootings took place in Ascension and Livingston parishes, near Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on Saturday morning.

The suspect, 21-year-old Dakota Theriot, is accused of killing his parents, Elizabeth and Keith Theriot, both 50, in the town of Gonzalez, the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office said.

Authorities were searching for Theriot on Saturday and said they believe he is "armed and dangerous."

He was last seen driving a gray and silver 2004 Dodge pickup with Louisiana license plate C583809, authorities said. ...

Dakota Theriot is also suspected of killing three more people less than 30 miles northeast in Livingston Parish.

But this is "only" a domestic dispute. The other 3 people he killed were his girlfriend, her brother and her father.

Four-year-old shoots mother in face after finding gun under mattress

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/201 ... 1549222785
Authorities said a pregnant Washington state woman was shot in the face on Saturday by her four-year-old son, after the boy found a loaded and unsecured gun under a mattress.

The King county sheriff’s office said the 27-year-old woman, who is eight months pregnant, was taken to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Deputies said the boy’s father put the gun under a mattress because he was afraid of recent neighborhood crime.

Under a new Washington state law, gun owners can face criminal charges for not safely storing a gun. It was unclear who the gun was registered to.

A pregnant Washington state woman remains hospitalized but her condition has improved after her 4-year-old son shot her in the face with a loaded handgun he found under a mattress.

A pregnant Washington state woman remains hospitalized but her condition has improved after her 4-year-old son shot her in the face with a loaded handgun he found under a mattress.

King County Sheriff's Office spokesman Sgt. Ryan Abbott says the 27-year-old mother was hospitalized Saturday with life-threatening injuries. He says her condition improved Sunday and she was transferred to another hospital.

Abbott says the woman and her boyfriend, who is the father of her son, were in bed watching television when the boy found the unsecured gun between the mattress and box spring.

Abbott says the boy unintentionally shot her his mother in the face. She's eight months pregnant.

The woman's boyfriend told deputies he borrowed the gun for protection.

The shooting is under investigation.

Man stops on MN highway, shoots school bus driver in head

Minneapolis (CBS News) -- Video released Wednesday shows the bizarre shooting of a school bus driver after an apparent fender-bender on a snowy highway, reports CBS Minnesota. It happened where Interstates 35W and 94 merge in Minneapolis Tuesday afternoon.

The video can be seen here.

A MnDOT traffic camera was rolling. As cars crept along, a Toyota pulled in front of a pickup truck and a school bus. At that point the driver, who police said was 31-year-old Kenneth Lilly, got out and immediately started firing.

The video is difficult to see, but shows what appear to be a couple gun flashes right away. Then, as the man walks between the pickup and the school bus, he apparently fires at least two more times. One final flash is seen as the man stands next to the bus door.

Police say the bus driver was hit in the head but his wounds weren't life-threatening. He underwent surgery.

A student seated in the back of the bus was unharmed.

He's been charged.

Suspected gunman in road rage shooting charged with attempted murder

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/school-bus ... d=63385282
Shocked motorists flooded 911 with calls that a bus driver had been shot along a major Minneapolis freeway at rush hour Tuesday. Police said 31-year-old Kenneth Lilly fired five shots at the 78-year-old school bus driver who bumped his car on an icy interstate, hitting him in the head and arm.

There was one student on the bus, an 8-year-old girl, but she was not hurt. Police Chief Medaria Arradondo said, however, that "the trauma of having to experience such a scene" is "intolerable."

:snippity:

On Thursday, prosecutors charged him with attempted murder and assault with a dangerous weapon. Lilly told police it was self defense.

"We do not believe there was a self-defense claim based upon the evidence that we have received so far," said prosecutor Dave Brown.
He stood his ground against a stopped bus.

Five kids, ages 12 - 16, charged in shooting death of Nashville musician
Updated: Feb 10, 2019 - 10:44 AM

NASHVILLE - Five juveniles from twelve to sixteen have been charged in the shooting death of Nashville musician Kyle Yorlets, 24.

Yorlets was killed in an attempted robbery outside of his home in Nashville on Feb. 7, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department.

Three girls, ages 12, 14, and 15, and two boys, ages 13 and 16, were charged with criminal homicide. They were arrested at a West Nashville Walmart.

Nashville police identified three of the children as Roniyah McKnight, Diamond Lewis and Decorrius Wright. The other two children have not been identified because they are 13 or younger. They were all taken to juvenile detention.

A gun was recovered, as well as a stolen car in the parking lot of the Walmart.

Investigators say the five were in a stolen Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck when they spotted Yorlets outside his home. They held him at gunpoint, stole his wallet and demanded his keys. Police believe Yorlets was shot after he refused to hand them over.

And it turns out this wasn't Lilly's first shooting.

St. Paul man charged in Minneapolis school bus shooting also killed teen robber in 2015
A St. Paul man charged with shooting a Minneapolis school bus driver this week is the same person who fatally shot a 16-year-old trying to rob him nearly four years ago, a Ramsey County official said Friday.

In 2015, the Ramsey County attorney’s office did not bring criminal charges against Kenneth Walter Lilly — who had a permit to carry the handgun. They found his use of deadly force against Lavauntai Broadbent in St. Paul was legally justified.
:snippity:
On Tuesday, the 31-year-old Lilly shot and wounded a school bus driver after a minor accident on Interstate 35W in Minneapolis, according to an attempted murder charge filed by the Hennepin County attorney’s office.
After Tuesday’s shooting, Lilly told officers he fired at the bus driver because he feared for his safety. But the criminal complaint says video footage shows he had retreated to a safe spot before walking back in front of the bus to start shooting.

On Friday [Lilly's lawyer] said Lilly is “very concerned” about the well-being of the driver and an 8-year-old student who was on the bus and “extends his well wishes to them.” The child was not injured.
How cute - pretending to care about the victim you tried to kill.

They're yanking his carry permit, thankfully. But this is another gun nut who took a job that allowed him to justify his gun fondling fetish. As a result, he was armed when he was in a park with a date and was held up by a group of kids, one of whom had a gun. Lilly pulled his gun and killed the kid.

Normal people don't pack heat when they go out on a date, nor when they go for a walk in the park.
I've heard this bull before.

Well, as it turned out he did run into trouble on that date, no? And if he hadn’t been armed, he and his date could have been killed by the punks instead of the other way ‘round.

You must have seen the recent news where a gang of kids killed a man who turned over his wallet but refused to surrender his car keys. Assailants were 12 to 16 years old, with at least one deadly weapon.

As big of an asshole as this guy is, I got no sympathy for armed punks.

On the other hand, the robber in question had been on a spree where he had in fact NOT been killing the people he robbed. Mr Shooter in this case 'listened to hit gut' and escalated a non-lethal situation into a lethal one. Odd how his gut just happened to tell him he got to kill someone rather than looking weak in front of his date.

I'm kinda with Roadscholer on this. Once you pull a gun, you cant really engender sympathy when the bullet dice toss leaves you in the body bag. The fact that he hadn't actually been killing people with it before is kinda irrelevant.

Which isnt to say that the shooter was not an asshole as well. Life sometimes has no "good guys."

Six California officers fire shots at rapper who had been asleep in car, killing him
[
i]Willie McCoy was startled awake and fatally shot by Vallejo police at Taco Bell, prompting family to allege racial profiling[/i]

Six Vallejo officers fired “multiple rounds” at the man, identified by family as Willie McCoy, police said. McCoy had a handgun on him when the officers fired out of “fear for their own safety” on Saturday night, according to the department. The family of McCoy, whose rapper name was Willie Bo, said Tuesday that police had racially profiled the young black man and that there was no justification for using deadly force against someone who was sleeping and not a threat.

“There was no attempt to try to work out a peaceful solution,” Marc McCoy, Willie’s older brother, told the Guardian. “The police’s job is to arrest people who are breaking the law – not take the law into your own hands. You’re not judge, jury and executioner … We’re never going to get over this.”

Police said officers were checking up on McCoy after a Taco Bell employee called 911 and said a man was “slumped over” behind the wheel of his car at the fast-food restaurant drive through on Saturday at around 10.30pm. McCoy was unresponsive and had a handgun on his lap, police said, adding that the doors were locked and the car was on. After they called for backup, McCoy “suddenly” moved, officials said in a statement.

A Nixle alert sent out: There is an active shooter near Highland and Prairie. Aurora Police are on the scene. More information will be available soon. I just saw dozens of fire fighters and police cross the street and run down Cleveland Avenue. One said they are “moving in”
