More votes, fewer seats. Let's hear it for gerrymandering!

The comments on that TPM article are worth reading as well. There needs to be a lot more discussion about fixing the representation in Congress.

For years, I have been trying to get folks to make it a priority to do something about the imbalance in the structure. Nothing is going to change or get better until something is done about the imbalance in representation. If you are a Dem in most states, you are represented in Congress as only 3/5's of a person and in some only 1/3 of a person. In some states such as Alabama, about 30% are Democratic voters but have only one out of seven House members due to gerrymandering. They have no representation in the Electoral College votes. Add this all up across the country and you have the Congress we have that is far from representative. If something is not done about this structural problem, it is bound to get worse.

I was hoping someone would do the math on the Senate in the last election as well as the others to show the problems with the balance of power in the Senate.

If GOP state legislatures move to dividing up the Electoral votes, they will be able to take and keep the White House permanently.

If you want more people to get out and vote, they need to feel like their votes means something and is worth as much as someone else voting in other districts and states and that they really do have a say.and it really does matter.

Permanently, permanently? Or just permanently?

The next re distrcting doesn't happen till after 2020, iirc. So, in practical terms, that is "forever". The house is, and will remain, lost for some time. The Senate and Presidency (as well as state Governor and legislature races) are all that matter for now.

Senator Bernie Sanders plans to introduce legislation making Election Day a national holiday. I say make it Sunday AND a National Holiday. The question will be, who will oppose this fabulous, rational idea, and why.
