Rep. Michael Grimm (R-N.Y.) was re-elected, despite his indictment earlier this year on 20 counts of fraud.

Unbelievable.

Time to get Howard Dean back as DNC chairman.

Debbie Wasserman-Schultz was proclaiming that the Democrats would hold the Senate and add governorships. Perhaps it was her job to put things in a false positive light. I suspect that the DNC does need a new chair. I am even more convinced that many Democratic candidates need backbone transplants.

Maybe they'll learn to stop reacting to the right wing hatred of President Obama, and quit running away from the few good things he's been able to do, in spite of the Republican gridlock machine.

Well its not exactly like its a new thing. Al Gore ran away from Bill Clinton and sidelined him back in 2000. Yes, he ran away from a popular Prez with popularity in the 50s becasue the Republicans were calling him names. Like Obama Clinton knew how to beat those fuckers and he was sidelined.

She needs to pack her bags. Israel did this morning, a good start.

It seems like the Dems bought into the RW propaganda and got really bad advice from the political operatives, pundits and pollsters. By running from Obama successes, they left voters with no reason to vote for them. They left a vacuum for the Stop Obama team to move into.

They committed political suicide. It's not so much that the voters favor the GOP obstructionists. Their options stink. If I were in KY, I could not vote for McConnell, but I would have to hold my nose to vote for Grimes.

Sadly, the GOPers and the talking heads will mistake this as a 'wave' and some kind of mandate for sweeping regressive legislation. The state legislatures will be passing more and more measures to insure the GOP hang on to their power. The demographics that support them are reliable voters. The Dems don't have that no matter how large their numbers. The relentless Obama bashing has put the country in a hole that is going to be hard to climb out of.

Another concern is how hard it is to get good, solid objective information about candidates and initiatives. We get tons of emails from partisan sources most of which don't get read. I did not look at any of the flyers in the mailbox before putting them in recycling. I saw very few ads on TV. The talking heads were insufferable. There is nothing that seems to fill the gap left by newspapers and old-fashioned political reporting. More and more money is being spent on campaigns but there is a saturation point. It's rare voters have candidates to vote for with any confidence. It's too often choosing among bad options. So we end up electing large numbers of nut jobs that do a great deal of harm and in no way represent the majority. So you get representatives who vote against things like minimum wage while passing a min. wage initiative by a large margin. You get representatives who vote for personhood bills while voting down personhood initiatives. There is a disconnect between who gets elected and what the citizenry wants them to do and not to do.

GOP Strategist: Democrats Blundered by Hiding Barack Obama

Republican operatives still relishing their Senate election victory offered some unlikely criticism of their Democratic opponents’ campaigns Thursday.

“They sidelined the president,” Rob Collins, the Executive Director of the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) told reporters at a backslapping post-election briefing. Instead, Collins argued, Democrats shouldn’t have been scared off by Republican attempts to tie Obama to their candidates.

Collins said NRSC polling had long identified the economy as the issues voters cared about most, and one where Democrats stood to gain. “We felt that that was their best message and they sidelined their best messenger,” he said. Collins added that in many states, Democratic candidates had positive stories to tell. “In Colorado, unemployment is 5.1 percent and they never talked about it,” he added.

“They were so focused on independents that they forgot they had a base,” Collins said of Democratic Senate candidates. “They left their base behind. They became Republican-lite.”

I've been reading about a possible schism in the newly won Republican Congressional majority. There are those (the grown-ups) that see the need to work with the President and compromise to get things done, in order to prove that they can govern. This show of leadership will come in handy for the Republicans in the next Presidential election.

Then, there is the faction of the party that wants to draft all sorts of crazy-pants bills; abortion legislation, anti-immigrant legislation, etc.

It will be interesting to see which group's strategy prevails going forward. The Republicans did manage to get it together enough to win big in Tuesday's election, so I could really see this going either way. People have been predicting the GOP's death since 2008.

With all the money we just raised, maybe the Dems could hire that GOP strategist guy. He seems to know what's up.

I'm sure it's all our fault. We simply did not donate enough money to beat the Republicans.

Joni Ernst we have heard a lot about, but there were other RWNJ's elected to pump up the level of crazy in Congress. Tom Cotten, Jodi Hice, Mia Love, Glenn Grothman, and Mark Walker will be joining the likes of Ted Cruz, Louie Gohmert and Steve King. They will be great material for the comedy shows but it does not make for making government work.

Russian tanks reportedly on the move into the Ukraine.

I'd love to see our POTUS lob the ball to the new incoming GOP majority and say "Well okay folks, enough about me -- what are YOU gonna do about it?"

Any opinions about Mary Landrieu? I'm now getting emails begging for donations for her run-off. I see that she came in at 42% and two Rs followed at 40% and 13%. So it looks like she'll lose. Personally, I think we're better off without these red-state dems who try their best to run away from everything the Democratic Party should stand for. What say you all?

Is having one less Republican in the senate critical? If not, fuck her.

Is having one less Republican in the senate critical? If not, fuck her.For the next two years, there's little tactical advantage. It will be more important in 2016, when the Democrats will want to regain leadership with 51 (or 50 + veep) seats. But most are saying she's going to lose, so it is throwing good money after bad.
