AT&T says state's bill banning mask mandates "overrides our corporate policies"

A North Dakota lawmaker may have gotten more than he bargained for when the legislature on Monday approved his proposal to ban requirements for wearing face masks in the state, where more than 1,400 residents have died of COVID-19. That's because of disagreement over what the proposed law would actually do.

The bill, now on its way to the state Senate, would bar state and local officials, schools and businesses from mandating masks, according to local news reports and the Greater North Dakota Chamber (GNDC), the biggest statewide business advocacy group, which opposes the anti-masking measure.

"Our intent is to oppose it in the Senate," Matt Gardner, GNDC's legislative director, told CBS MoneyWatch. "A business needs to be able to protect its customers and employees how it sees fit."

Twitter strike system will permanently ban users who repeatedly post COVID-19 misinformation

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-03-02/ ... n/13205718

Key points:
Twitter says it has removed thousands of tweets since December which spread misinformation about COVID-19
The new strike system will ban users who break their policy guidelines five times
Twitter most notably issued several warning labels on tweets from former US president Donald Trump

Since introducing its COVID-19 guidance in December, the company said it had removed more than 8,400 tweets and challenged 11.5 million accounts.

Under its new guidelines, Twitter users who are deemed to have peddled false COVID-19 information will be given a strike.

Twitter says there will be no punishment for a user's first strike, but that they will be temporarily locked out of their account after their second and third strikes.

If a user is issued a fourth strike, they will be banned from the social network for seven days.

A fifth strike will result in the user being permanently banned.

I'm not convinced that this was solely about the mask, but it was the final straw.
A man refused to mask up at a high school basketball game. Then he killed an officer who intervened, police say.

The George Washington Carver High School basketball team had built a huge early lead in its playoff game in New Orleans on Saturday when John Shallerhorn tried to walk into the gym. But Shallerhorn, 35, wasn’t wearing a mask, so a staffer blocked his way, police said.

When Shallerhorn punched the staffer, Tulane University police officer Martinus Mitchum, who was working security for the team, rushed to help. That’s when Shallerhorn pulled a gun, police said, and fatally shot Mitchum, 38, in the chest, sending players and fans scurrying for safety.

Shallerhorn, who was quickly arrested and charged with multiple felonies including murder of a police officer, had also robbed someone outside the game before coming inside, according to a criminal complaint reviewed by nola.com.

He confessed to the killing, police said, and was ordered held without bail. It’s not clear if he has an attorney.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2 ... -shooting/

Really sad, the murdered officer sounds like a special guy. Mitchum was in uniform, BTW.
Mitchum, a Detroit native who contemplated becoming a preacher before going into law enforcement, made a deep impact at the high schools where he worked after graduating from the police academy in Slidell, La., nola.com reported.

My neighbor believes that covid is "political" and that only older folks with preexisting conditions die. I explained to her that my sister, a critical care nurse working covid wards in NV, says otherwise.

She does wear a mask (we're hardcore about mask mandates in my area), but isn't planning to get the vaccine. She's not an anti-vaxxer. She just believes that covid isn't really a big deal.

Because of the pandemic, she's unemployed. She can't find any job, even though she has a medical billing background.

I don't argue the politics of covid anymore. I don't argue about mandates. Such arguments fall of deaf ears. Instead, I argue the economics of the pandemic. I told my neighbor that the only way to reopen the economy is for everyone to get the vaccine. I hope that point makes her reconsider her decision to not vaccinate.

Blast strikes Dutch COVID-19 test centre; police call it an attack
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-heal ... SKCN2AV0O4
BOVENKARSPEL, Netherlands (Reuters) - A blast struck a coronavirus testing centre north of Amsterdam before sunrise on Wednesday, shattering windows but causing no injuries in what police called an intentional attack.

An explosives team visited the site in the town of Bovenkarspel, 55 km (35 miles) from the capital, where police said a metal cylinder involved in the explosion had been recovered.
<snip>
Anger at healthcare authorities has increased since the start of 2021, with the head of the National Institute for Health now accompanied by a security detail.

Another test location in the nearby town of Urk was burned down during several days of rioting in January sparked by the introduction of a nighttime curfew.

Yikes! I googled Netherlands, Covid-19 and rioting. Europe is a mess. Just like the US. And Putin is happy.
But the most disturbing critics of Dutch coronavirus measures—and the real instigators of the recent violence—are extreme far-right groups such as Pegida, an anti-immigrant organization that started in Germany and has spread to other European countries, including the Netherlands. Pegida, the German acronym for “Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamization of the West,” has enjoyed tacit support from Moscow, with its message and events boosted by Russian media. Ruptly, a Berlin-based video outfit that is owned by RT, the Kremlin-backed news network, routinely livestreams Pegida events, in keeping with President Vladimir Putin’s own tactical exploitation of the pandemic, part of his ongoing campaign against liberal democracy in the West.

Early in the pandemic, the European Union’s foreign policy arm, the European External Action Service, concluded in a report that Russia, through both its state media and other pro-Kremlin outlets, was deploying “a significant disinformation campaign” about the coronavirus, in order “to aggravate the public health crisis in Western countries.” Russia’s tactics and goals are familiar, the EU warned, “in line with the Kremlin’s broader strategy of attempting to subvert European societies.”

This disinformation dovetailed neatly with the goals of extreme, far-right groups such as Pegida and other less extreme right-wingers across the continent. In Germany, anti-lockdown protests have reportedly been spearheaded by “militant neo-Nazis.” During a large rally against coronavirus measures last summer, far-right protesters in Berlin tried to enter the Reichstag, the German parliament—an assault that brings to mind the events of Jan. 6 in Washington.

A spike in hospitalizations is causing the Food and Drug Administration to warn the public against equine-grade ivermectin — an anti-parasite drug.

“The FDA has received multiple reports of patients who have required medical support and been hospitalized after self-medicating with ivermectin intended for horses,” the FDA said Friday.

The NIH has not approved the drug to treat coronavirus for humans, nor is it a an anti-viral remedy. The FDA says large doses of ivermectin can cause “serious harm,” and that symptoms of an overdose include comas, seizures, vomiting and diarrhea. It can also be fatal.

CNN reports ivermectin has anti-inflammatory properties and had given indications in lab studies that it can stop COVID-19 from replicating. A double-blind study among 500 adults in Colombia reportedly shortened symptoms by two days according to respondents. It was not deemed a significant breakthrough.

I suspect you heard about Amber Lynn Gilles this past summer. She's an anti-masker and anti-vaxxer.

She went into a Starbucks and had a meltdown about being told she wouldn't be served unless she wore a mask. She took a pic of the barista and asked him his name. He gave her permission to take his picture. She posted his name and photo on her FB page on public setting. She was then shocked when the media picked up the story and ran with it.

A guy posted a GoFundMe for the barista to "tip" him for dealing with Karens. The GoFundMe raised over $100,000. The GoFundMe noted that each donation was to be considered a gift for the barista.

Amber than asked for 50% of the GoFundMe money. She got nothing ... but more publicity. She set up a GoFundMe soon after and has raised close to $6000, in 8 months.

Now she's suing the guy that started the GoFundMe for the barista. So, he started a GoFundMe for legal assistance to fight the lawsuit. He's raised close to $30,000 in 4 days. Over 13,000 folks have donated to him.

https://abc7.com/san-diego-starbucks-go ... /10388953/

The lawsuit is a riot to read!! It's sincerely entertaining. bit.ly/ALGvMCMA (opens as a pdf)

She puts it on Facebook and then blames the defendent when it goes viral? Odd reasoning.

Apparently her chiropractor wrote a letter that she can't breathe with a mask. On Facebook: "She posted a photo of herself wearing a Guy Fawkes mask on April 25 and wrote, “Not complying with aggressive tyrannical government over reach, useless masks, mandatory vaccines, the closure of small businesses, parks, schools, social distancing, 5g, the deep and police state.”
Moar here: https://heavy.com/news/2020/07/amber-gi ... s-barista/

The barista, Lenin, seems like a great guy. Grew up poor, very grateful to his donors, and is headed to college.

And this went viral on all media platforms. She has to prove that the defendant was the first to post the screenshot from her page ... which was set to public.

Lenin claims he didn't refuse to serve her. Gilles claims he did, but that he did serve her the day before. I believe Lenin. He says she got really angry, screamed at people, left the shop, and then returned to get his name and photo.

There are so many legal flaws in her lawsuit. Her lawyer knows this is a no win case.

I wonder if she's going to demand 50% from the defendant's GoFundMe (he's raising $ to cover legal expenses).

When the coronavirus pandemic hit and restaurant owners faced difficult decisions, the Richards family that owns Picos, a Mexican restaurant in Houston, quickly adapted to continue sharing their Latin cuisine - from selling to-go margarita kits to stationing a mariachi band at curbside pickup.

This week, after Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, a Republican, said Tuesday that he would rescind the statewide mask mandate while the vast majority of residents remain unvaccinated, the tough choice to enforce public health guidance fell to business owners, and Picos announced it would continue requiring masks. But, after such a challenging year, the reaction to their decision was disheartening, co-owner Monica Richards said: Several people sent hateful messages through social media and called the restaurant, threatening to report staff to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

These fuckwits are the same ones who think it's ok to shoot people for trespassing on their property. If the castle doctrine covers fear of injury or death, why can't we just shoot people without masks on? I fear injury or death from those assholes more than I do some random guy walking across my property.

The guy ̶K̶a̶r̶e̶n̶ Amber is suing has set up his own defense GoFundMe as well. It's already raised over $30k (in contrast to Amber's $6K).

https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-im-bein ... sing-money

Amber seems to have hidden comments on her GoFundMe page. That's a damn shame, because some of the people who donated $5 just to tell her off made some hilarious comments. I recall one from a woman that went something like, "please take this $5 and use it to buy a dildo so you can go fuck yourself. If you already have a dildo use the money to help pay for a class on how to be decent to people".

That article is a bit off. The cell lines are used to create all three vaccines. And the Vatican is ok with it.

From link inn the article: "It must therefore be considered that, in such a case, all vaccinations recognized as clinically safe and effective can be used in good conscience with the certain knowledge that the use of such vaccines does not constitute formal cooperation with the abortion from which the cells used in production of the vaccines derive. It should be emphasized, however, that the morally licit use of these types of vaccines, in the particular conditions that make it so, does not in itself constitute a legitimation, even indirect, of the practice of abortion...."

Despite your obvious glee for a nice bit of Catholic kicking, it has already been mentioned that its the American council of Bishops not the Catholic church as a whole. And while I cant read that article due to it being blocked in Europe, but I assume its TOTALLY FAIR in its portrayal of what the Bishops actually said. Which essentially was that if you have a choice choose another vaccine, but if you don't, get your ass vaccinated regardless, even with icky Abortion stuffs.

https://whdh.com/news/abortion-concerns ... j-vaccine/
The US Conference of Catholic Bishops alleges the Johnson & Johnson vaccine was developed from aborted fetuses. In a statement, they told their followers: “… if one can choose among equally safe and effective COVID-19 vaccines, the vaccine with the least connection to abortion-derived cell lines should be chosen. Therefore, if one has the ability to choose a vaccine, Pfizer or Moderna’s vaccines should be chosen over Johnson & Johnson’s.”

Johnson & Johnson has said there is no fetal tissue in their vaccine and that they are proud of the product they developed. Now, many local healthcare workers say they want to make sure those claims do not keep people from getting vaccinated.

“The Pope has stated repeatedly that it’s a moral imperative to be vaccinated,” said Tufts Chief of Infectious Diseases Dr. Helen Boucher. “So we really want to make it clear there is no reason for Catholics not to receive this vaccine.”

Health officials said that despite the limited supply — people are “vaccine shopping.”

“Yes, it’s happening. It was happening before the J & J,” Infectious Disease Physician Dr. Gabriela Andujar Vazquez said. “It will be safe to get this vaccine, whichever is offered to you, so there’s no reason to pick one over the other.”

The Archdiocese of Boston told 7NEWS it is following Vatican guidance and telling Catholics to get whatever vaccine is available to them.

This is a message religious leaders say is especially important in Black and Brown communities that have been hit hardest by COVID-19 and are least likely to get a shot at all.

“Picking and choosing what company they’re gonna receive the vaccination … which vaccination is best … is not our concern in the urban area. Our concern is about hospitalizations, our concern is about sickness, our concern is about death,” Morning Star Baptist Church BishopJohn M. Borders III said.
Oh and American Evangelicals were sowing distrust in the Covid Vaccine before the evil Catholics were, odd you weren't inspired to rage against that with equal zeal. Now, if you don't mind, I'm off to eat my morning Kitten.

https://www.dw.com/en/american-evangeli ... a-55957915
During the summer, when the coronavirus tore through the United States, misinformation campaigns promoted conspiracy theories that could jeopardize the health of hundreds of thousands of Americans. Many evangelical Christians — a loosely defined group of mostly doctrinally conservative Protestants — have been fractured by myths about the COVID-19 vaccine and the pandemic.

Critics have accused right-wing fundamentalist pastors of perpetuating baseless theories that encourage their flock to ignore public health data and experts fighting the coronavirus. Some unfounded claims include the assertion that the vaccine is the mark of the beast, or will cause sterilization in women.

"There is a suspicion that it (the coronavirus) is not real. They are stepping further and further away from reality," says Mark Labberton, president of the Fuller Seminary, an evangelical Christian seminary in California.

With global leaders and governments starting to approve and distribute vaccines, that misinformation could complicate the efforts of public health professionals urging people to get vaccinated.

I suppose that if every drug or vaccine couldn't be used if stem cells or stem cell research was used in its development, just about every med created in the past 40 years would be forbidden fruit for these people.
