The artist/writer of my favorite webcomic (wildelifecomic.com) added chickens to her yard a few months ago. She tweeted this today:

Back in ER. Paramedic wouldn’t take me to Kaiser so I’m at providence holy cross until they say I’m stable.

Shortness of breath, low blood oxygen (around 80%), low blood sugar 61).

A respiratory treatment with nebulizer helped me breath and now oxygen at 93%. Got lasix and had to get a foley.

Just told Kaiser is sending transport and will be moved there in about 40 minutes.

They were very efficient getting me to Kaiser. In fact they had a room for me right away and it took an hour self and actually to have admissions come to officially check me in.

I’ve seen the Palliative care specialist and have assortment of new stronger pain meds prescribed. And I’ve had an assortment of tests with more to come this afternoon.

Not looking good. The hospitalist said what can only be described as bad news. My cousin is quick to point out that hospitalists are not experts in anything and just generalists, and I need to hear from the oncologist.

However, the hospitalist indicated that the chemo will probably be more and more dangerous and have less success. He implied that path forward will be in hospice care.

The hospitalist said that the reduced heart function is probably why I am developing severe edema in my legs and that’s why lasix isn’t helping.
