Senator Dianne Feinstein was one of the authors of the Child Trafficking law that is at the center of the crisis. It requires a hearing for each unaccompanied minor to see if the child has a legitimate claim for status as a refugee or asylee.Senator Feinstein says that there is a clause that allows for exceptions in emergency circumstances such as we have now. She doesn't give details about how that would work. [/break1]sfgate.com/politics/article/Feinstein-Child-trafficking-law-is-flexible-in-5616012.php]http://www.sfgate.com/politics/article/ ... 616012.phpNot much can happen until the House agrees to fund the facilities and personnel needed to process the large numbers of refugees coming and turning themselves in to the border patrol. But the obstructionists do not want a solution. They want to keep blaming the president. All they really seem to care about is blaming the president and calling for impeachment. So much of the rhetoric is truly vile and heartless.

Martin O’Malley: Don’t send kids to ‘certain death’

NASHVILLE — Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley urged compassion Friday for children flooding over the U.S. border from Latin American countries, sharply rejecting any wholesale effort to return them to places where he said they could face “certain death.”

The comments by O’Malley — a potential 2016 Democratic presidential candidate — come as the Obama administration is looking for ways to speed up deportations of the minors and additional funding for border security. ...

During a press conference with other Democrats at meeting of the National Governors Association in Nashville, O’Malley insisted the young would-be migrants deserved due process in the immigration system.

“We are not a country that should send children away and send them back to certain death,” he said, adding: “I believe that we should be guided by the greatest power we have as a people, and that is the power of our principles. Through all of our great world religions, we are told that hospitality to strangers is an essential human dignity.”

How The Government Is Using Subliminal Songs To Scare Central American Immigrants

“Migrants from everywhere, entrenched along the rail ties. Far away from where they come, further away from where they go,” singer Eddie Ganz croons in Spanish over the Caribbean beat of the marimba, a wooden xylophone-like instrument from Guatemala. “They call her the Beast from the South, this wretched train of death. With the devil in the boiler, whistles, roars, twists and turns.”

People throughout Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador call their local radio stations to request this song, a harrowing tale of violence and death set against the backdrop of Central America’s traditionally upbeat cumbia music. “La Bestia,” or “The Beast” refers to the notoriously dangerous freight train upon which thousands of migrants ride from Southern Mexico, risking robbery, kidnapping, rape, and murder just to make it to the U.S. border. It’s a familiar tale told by an expected source. In fact, the popularity of “La Bestia” owes itself in large part to the fact that its audience is not aware of its origins. The song, and others like it, are part of a U.S. Customs and Border Protection campaign to deterring illegal immigration to the United States.

Last week, CBP announced plans to launch a new, million-dollar “Dangers Awareness Campaign,” aimed at discouraging families in Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador from sending their children with smugglers to cross the U.S. border through Mexico. A press release described billboards and public service announcements to be aired on television and radio in those three countries as well as U.S. cities with large Central American populations. Not highlighted was “La Bestia,” the song written and produced for the sole purpose of spreading CBP’s message through music.

“La Bestia” is not the first song commissioned by CBP, but it is the only one written specifically for a Central American audience. In 2004, CBP launched it’s first messaging campaign in Mexico called “No Mas Cruces,” which intentionally can be translated as both “No More Crossings” or “No More Crosses,” as in crosses on graves. The objective of “No Mas Cruces,” was to spread awareness about the dangers of the Sonoran desert, where hundreds of migrants die every year. Part of that campaign included distributing a CD of five songs about the risks involved in crossing the border to radio stations throughout Mexico. The songs, called “migra corridos,” a play on the popular narcocorridos or gangster ballads after which they were modeled, became hugely popular with listeners. “La Bestia” is currently played by 21 radio stations throughout Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras.

Atty. Gen. Harris seeks legal help for flood of minor immigrantsCalifornia Atty. Gen. Kamala D. Harris on Wednesday convened a group of public and private officials to look at how legal representatives can be provided to the thousands of minors who are crossing the border illegally into the United States. With a surge of more than 57,000 unaccompanied minors who have arrived in the U.S. in recent months from Central America, nonprofit legal services groups that serve immigrants have been overwhelmed by demand, meaning many of the minors are not getting legal representation.Representatives of corporations and private law firms offered Wednesday to provide significant resources, including pro bono attorneys, to help make sure underage immigrants have legal representation, according to some of the 40 people who attended the roundtable discussion at the Department of Justice office in Los Angeles. Those in attendance agreed to Harris’ request to form a working group to monitor the situation and make sure resources are available.“This is a humanitarian crisis of children fleeing extreme violence,” said David Beltran, a spokesman for the attorney general. “This working group will work to ensure that these children receive due process under existing immigration law.”Katie Marquart, pro bono director for the law firm Gibson Dunn, said her company has been providing free legal representation to indigent immigrants for years. “We certainly are committed to stepping up our involvement,” Marquart said.Harris convened the meeting just days before she and other state attorneys general are scheduled to meet in Park City, Utah, with the attorneys general for Mexico and El Salvador. That meeting Sunday is on transnational crime, but the issue of the surge in immigration is expected to be addressed as well.[/break1]latimes.com/local/political/la-me-pc-ag-harris-seeks-legal-help-for-flood-of-minor-immigrants-20140716-story.html]http://www.latimes.com/local/political/ ... story.html

KRGV - RIO GRANDE VALLEY, TXReport Sheds Light into Immigration Court ProceduresWESLACO - A new report sheds some light into the plight unaccompanied minors experience in the immigration court system. The report done by the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse revealed that one factor alone may tip the scales in the children's favor. The organization collects monthly statistics from immigration courts and provides a snapshot of how the courts are working. To get the clearest picture, the group excluded unaccompanied minors from Mexico, since they're usually deported almost immediately and don't see a judge at all.For those who do get to see a judge, the success rate jumps when the minors have the help of an attorney.Minors with an attorney are allowed to remain in the United States nearly 50 percent of the time. For minors without an attorney, that number drops to 10 percent.Immigration Attorney Anthony Martinez said he's not surprised."What could possibly an 8- or 9-year-old be able to stand up and say in front of the judge? It would be a very daunting task," Martinez said. There are several ways minors may be able to stay in the United States, in addition to asylum. There are visas for children who have been abused, abandoned or victimized.Martinez said without attorneys to make their case, minors are sent back into danger. In our local weekly newspaper today-

‘Border children’ reach Riverhead, reunite with family

[/break1]timesreview.com/2014/07/56298/border-children-reach-riverhead-reunite-with-family/]http://riverheadnewsreview.timesreview. ... th-family/

A misty Independence Day morning rekindled hope for a Riverhead family that was reunited for the first time in 11 years. “I’m so happy,” said Marta, a Guatemalan immigrant who did not give her last name, in describing that morning. “Everything is different now.”

Her two sons, Estabon, 16, and Pedro, 14, were alive and well after completing a dangerous trip from Guatemala to Riverhead — without the helping hands of their parents.

The boys are just two of the thousands of young immigrants known as “border children,” who have been arriving unaccompanied at Mexico’s border, having fled their violence-plagued homelands in Central America.

Though the family remains reunited for now, the journey isn’t over, as immigration policy will determine whether they may stay united or will see their family split once more.

Sister Margaret Smyth of the North Fork Spanish Apostolate (center) with Estabon, 16, and Pedro, 14, and their mother Marta Tuesday afternoon.

That puts a human face on it. But in not so nice news on that subject-

Remove hatred from immigration debate

It turned out a 2-year-old boy had fallen from a second story window, dropping through open Bilco doors and landing in a basement below. He was airlifted to Stony Brook University Medical Center and, miraculously, escaped any major injuries. Who wouldn’t say that was a good day for our area?

Well, plenty of people, apparently. You see, the boy’s name was Cruz. Here are some excerpts from news readers’ reactions to our online story:

“The mother was probably chasing her other 4 or 5 toddlers away from the rest of the open windows.”

“How old is the mother, cause they all look like kids themselves having the anchor babies.”

“Because you can never have too many illegal Hispanics on the North Fork!”

The only conclusion one can draw from comments like these is that the mother’s race and/or ethnicity had something to do with the child falling out a window..That editorial requires you to be a subscriber to read it all.

Riverhead takes aim at downtown attacks, revives Anti-Bias Task Force

[/break1]timesreview.com/2014/07/56313/riverhead-takes-aim-at-downtown-attacks-revives-anti-bias-task-force/]http://riverheadnewsreview.timesreview. ... ask-force/

A string of violent assaults and robberies in the downtown area this year — most of which have targeted Hispanic men — has town leaders responding by reviving a group aimed at bringing the community together.

Dormant almost since its inception in 2007, according to town officials, Riverhead’s Anti-Bias Task Force will soon begin meeting again. Its resurrection resulted from a recent meeting with Rabbi Steven Moss, longtime chairman of the Suffolk County Human Rights Commission and co-chair of the county’s Inter-Faith Anti-Bias Task Force. That task force was founded 30 years ago, according to the county, as “a proactive agency promoting tolerance and understanding.” Its clergy and citizen members work to “address issues of prejudice and discrimination” and foster the establishment of similar groups in Suffolk’s individual towns.

“To me, what has become so important about the concept of the Anti-Bias Task Force is that it’s where good people in the community come to together and say, ‘No one in the community ever needs to feel helpless against crimes of a racial or bias or prejudicial nature.’ Because if nothing else, there is the support of their community for you,” Rabbi Moss said.

Eight separate robberies or assaults have occurred in the downtown area so far this year, from the most recent near the DMV on Route 58 to an attack in Polish Town in January. All of them occurred at night and Hispanic men have been victims in more than half of them.

Central American leaders to meet with Obama

WASHINGTON (AP) — The presidents of Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras will come to Washington next week to discuss the surge of unaccompanied minors from their countries across the U.S border.

The White House says Guatemalan President Otto Perez Molina, Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernandez, and El Salvadoran President Salvador Sanchez Ceren will meet with President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden on Friday.

The U.S. has been urging their governments to take steps to stem the exodus of children and warning that the U.S. will take steps to send them back promptly.

An Obama request to Congress for $3.7 billion in emergency spending contains $300 million to help the Central American government repatriate and reintegrate migrants that are sent back.

Child Migrants Have Been Coming to America Alone Since Ellis Island

http://cdn.billmoyers.com/wp-contentsrc ... 1_crop.jpg

An unaccompanied child migrant was the first person in line on opening day of the new immigration station at Ellis Island. Her name was Annie Moore, and that day, January 1, 1892, happened to be her 15th birthday. She had traveled with her two little brothers from Cork County, Ireland, and when they walked off the gangplank, she was awarded a certificate and a $10 gold coin for being the first to register. Today, a statue of Annie stands on the island, a testament to the courage of millions of children who passed through those same doors, often traveling without an older family member to help them along.

Of course, not everyone was lining up to give Annie and her fellow passengers a warm welcome. Alarmists painted immigrants — children included — as disease-ridden job stealers bent on destroying the American way of life. And they’re still at it. On a CNN segment about the current crisis of child migrants from Central and South America, Michele Bachmann used the word “invaders” and warned of rape and other dangers posed to Americans by the influx. And last week, National Review scoffed at appeals to American ideals of compassion and charity, claiming Ellis Island officials had a strict send-’em-back policy when it came to children showing up alone.

That’s not true, according to Barry Moreno, a librarian at the Ellis Island Immigration Museum and author of the book Children of Ellis Island. The Immigration Act of 1907 did indeed declare that unaccompanied children under 16 were not permitted to enter in the normal fashion. But it didn’t send them packing, either. Instead, the act set up a system in which unaccompanied children — many of whom were orphans — were kept in detention awaiting a special inquiry with immigration inspectors to determine their fate. At these hearings, local missionaries, synagogues, immigrant aid societies and private citizens would often step in and offer to take guardianship of the child, says Moreno.

Conservative media hysteria explodes: Muslims! Ebola! A xenophobic fiasco

[/break1]salon.com/2014/07/17/conservative_media_hysteria_explodes_muslims_ebola_a_xenophobic_fiasco/]http://www.salon.com/2014/07/17/conserv ... ic_fiasco/

The conservative media are getting in on the act as well. The buzzing, angry, pulsating hub of anti-immigrant sentiment in the conservative media is Fox Nation. The website, which is part of the broader Fox News online empire, has the editorial and propriety standards typically found in unmoderated online message boards. And it’s shockingly anti-immigrant, which is remarkable when you consider the major news outlet that operates it also has a website devoted specifically to Latino news.

The Fox Nation modus operandi is to aggregate stories that cast immigrants in a poor light and gussy them up with new, inflammatory headlines. (My favorite example: a story from 2011 about migrant laborers in Texas forced to use an alleyway outside a work center as a toilet, which Fox Nation headlined “ILLEGALS LEAVING FECES ALL OVER EL PASO.”)Conservatives are not nice people. Gov. Rick Perry to mobilize Texas National Guard troops to secure U.S.-Mexico border

Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) reportedly plans to dispatch the Texas National Guard to the U.S. border with Mexico, according to news reports.

Perry will announce his plans Monday to mobilize some 1,000 guardsmen to the Rio Grande Valley to increase security at the border, according to the [link]Monitor, a south Texas newspaper,http://m.themonitor.com/news/local/gov- ... l?mode=jqm[/link]. The newspaper quoted a state senator and an internal memo it obtained from a state official’s office.

Perry spokesman Felix Browne told The Washington Post he would neither confirm nor deny the report, but said all details will be given at a news conference at 2 p.m. Central time Monday in Austin. It was unclear what mission the guard will have.

The news comes amid the continued surge of young immigrants, most of them from Central America, crossing the border and scattered protests in a few U.S. cities from those who don’t want them housed in their midst. Perry, a potential 2016 Republican presidential contender, spoke in Iowa and elsewhere in recent days, promising to take matters into his own hands if President Obama does not act.

The National Guard deployment — added to the DPS surge — will bring the price tag of troopers on the border to about $5 million per week, the memo said. Andthe funding source for the effort remains unclear. “It is not clear where the money will come from in the budget,” the memo states, adding that Perry's office has said the money will come from “non critical” areas, such as health care or transportation.

Hinojosa* said the National Guard was not equipped to aid immigrants crossing the Rio Grande.

“They (cartels) are taking advantage of the situation,” he said. “But our local law enforcement from the sheriff’s offices of the different counties to the different police departments are taking care of the situation. This is a civil matter, not a military matter. What we need is more resources to hire more deputies, hire more Border Patrol.

“These are young people, just families coming across. They're not armed. They're not carrying weapons.”*(Hinojosa is a state senator.)

Good move Perry. Take $5 million a week from health care and transportation spending in a state that already spends too little on either.

Bush said he had not yet heard a clear rationale for sending in the Guard and suggested it might not be the appropriate response to the problems at the core of the current crisis, though he did say he could envision the Guard playing some sort of part in a broader solution.“Until mission requirements are clearly defined, it can’t be determined whether this is an appropriate use of the Guard in this particular case,” H. Steven Blum, who was the Chief of the National Guard Bureau from 2003 to 2009 and has been a career military man for decades, told me. “There may be many other organizations that might more appropriately be called upon. If you’re talking about search and rescue, maintaining the rule of law or restoring conditions back to normal after a natural disaster or a catastrophe, the Guard is superbly suited to that. I’m not so sure that what we’re dealing with in scope and causation right now would make it the ideal choice.”The Guard was sent to borders twice during Blum’s tenure, and both raise questions about whether it is relevant to the current crisis. The first, Operation Winter Freeze, involved efforts to prevent terrorists from ...I would think that his experience would count for something. :confuzzled: :confuzzled: :confuzzled:

Feds targeting smuggling rings to combat border crisis

The photo's caption-

Border Patrol agents keep an eye on activity along the banks of the Rio Grande river in Anzalduas County Park in Mission, Tex., on Saturday, June 21, 2014. The park is a known place for human and drug smuggling from Mexico into Texas.I note that the agents don't have tanks, big guns or such. ;)

From the article-

The federal government has begun targeting the money-laundering operations of smuggling organizations as part of an effort to counter an unprecedented surge in Central Americans, including unaccompanied children, who have been streaming across the border in Texas' Rio Grande Valley for months.

The latest tactic, announced Tuesday by Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson, comes as the Obama administration has been criticized by Republicans in Congress for being slow to address the crisis.

It also comes as the flow of Central American families and unaccompanied children crossing illegally into the Rio Grande Valley has decreased significantly in recent weeks. Johnson acknowledged, however, that the drop may have more to do with the summer heat.Good idea, go after the money. The accountants will succeed. That is just how the Feds got Al Capone. :-bd

Exclusive: Obama sends team to Texas to assess need for National Guard deploymentPresident Barack Obama has sent a team to Texas to assess whether a U.S. National Guard deployment would help to handle an immigration crisis at the Mexican border, White House officials told Reuters on Wednesday, having so far resisted Republican calls for such a move. The team, made up of officials from the Department of Defense and the Department of Homeland Security, departed on Tuesday and will be on the ground through Thursday. The White House had previously resisted calls from Republicans to deploy the National Guard to fight the onslaught of migrants from Central America because most of the unaccompanied minors and others making the crossing were turning themselves in voluntarily. But during a meeting with Texas Governor Rick Perry earlier this month, Obama said he was open to ordering the deployment as a temporary solution. He directed Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel to send the team of evaluators to assess the situation, one White House official said. U.S. Weighs Giving Refugee Status to Youths in Honduras

Hoping to stem the recent surge of migrants at the Southwest border, the Obama administration is considering whether to allow hundreds of minors and young adults from Honduras into the United States without making the dangerous trek through Mexico, according to a draft of the proposal.

If approved, the plan would direct the government to screen thousands of children and youths in Honduras to see if they can enter the United States as refugees or on emergency humanitarian grounds. It would be the first American refugee effort in a nation reachable by land to the United States, the White House said, putting the violence in Honduras on the level of humanitarian emergencies in Haiti and Vietnam, where such programs have been conducted in the past amid war and major crises. ...

Administration officials confirmed that they are considering the idea, although they stressed that no decision has been made to move forward. They said the idea is one of many being discussed by officials at the White House and the Departments of State, Homeland Security, Justice, and Health and Human Services. ...

The draft of the plan noted that 64.7 percent of the unaccompanied minors who applied for asylum this year got it, which suggests that immigration officials have found their claims of imminent danger credible.

So World Nut Daily allowed Joe Arpaio to gas off about the child refugees coming in. Not a major surprise.

However, in comments, we see our old friend, 80 year old birther and former marine Bob Pinkstaff. And if you're expecting something unhinged, racist, and downright vile from Bob Pinkstaff, well.......you'd be right.

(snip)

The sympathy shown regarding these SO-CALLED poor raggedy ass ‘little children’ invaders & their poor raggedy parent invaders as described by the media & the SHEEPLE is BS!

These SO-CALLED poor raggedy ‘ass little children’ & their poor raggedy ass parents are all a part of the the EVIL FRAUDULENT TRAITOROUS muslim communist USURPER, barry soetoro AKA harrison j. bounel AKA barack hussein obama, his gangster thugs & the TRAITOROUS TURNCOAT washington DC/state government establishments & the NOW/666 ENEMY INVADING FORCES TACTICAL MANEUVER to destroy America!

BE ADVISED ... These SO-CALLED poor raggedy ‘little children’ invaders are disease ridden enemy that can & will shoot to kill on order, when the time comes! Just like hitler’s nazi brown shirts & the EVIL FRAUDULENT TRAITOROUS muslim communist USURPER, barry soetoro AKA harrison j. bounel AKA barack hussein obama’s civilian army of recruited amerikan & u.n amerikan brown shirted kids & thugs!

BE ADVISED ... It’s been said by many that only criticism is offered & never a solution. Well, for you SLEEPING SHEEPLE, the only human way/solution to stop this continual ILLEGAL INVADER INVASION of America’s southern, northern, east, west & vertically is to handle the INVASION OF THE USA the same way we handle any WARTIME BATTLE/OPERATION we're involved in ...

IMMEDIATE use of deadly force (live ammo), ordering all ‘ILLEGAL INVADER’ border crossers and drug smugglers to be ‘SHOT/KILLED’ on sight, no exceptions & leave all of the ‘ILLEGAL INVADER’ bodies, dead or alive, where they fall!

OR ...

BULLDOZE the bodies back to the Mexican/Canadian side of the border for the buzzards to clean up!!! These bodies will show those BASTARDS that we mean business & what happens to any and all ‘ILLEGAL INVADERS’ crossing into the United States Illegally! We’ve gotta ‘SHOOT FIRST AND LAST‘ if we’re gonna win this border war!

Patting these ‘ILLEGAL INVADERS’ on the rear end, giving them food, drink, first aid & sending them home on an airplane won't cut it! ANY FAVORABLE CONSIDERATION AND OR AMNESTY FOR ANY AND ALL 'ILLEGAL INVADERS' IN ANY FORM IS UNACCEPTABLE!!!"

(snip)Yes, you read that right. Pinkstaff's solution is to shoot all those scary children dead and bulldoze their little corpses over the border.

Pinkstaff was born a few years too late. That kind of attitude would have made him a perfect SS-Sturmscharführer in the camps.

I'm only guessing here (based on anything and everything Alex Jones says is a lie) but it's being reported at Infowars that between 4- and 10,000 protested near (or on) Beacon Hill this past Saturday, July 26.

Since we have someone or someones here who may be able to veriry it... or not...

Yes! 10,000 Americans protested treasonous Obama and treasonous Governor Duval Patrick, demanding to send back all of the illegals. 90% of the illegals are not children, large numbers are gang bangers and cartel members. This is an invasion orchestred by the enemy combatant in the WH, Soebarkah-Obama

Protesters Swarm Beacon Hill, ‘Livid’ Over Illegal Immigration

An anti-illegal immigration rally on Beacon Hill outside the State House on Saturday, July 26 was teeming with protesters.

While Bree Sison of CBS Boston estimated that the gathering drew hundreds of people, Jeff Kuhner, the host of WRKO’s The Kuhner Report, who organized the rally, put the number closer to 10,000 people.[/break1]boston.com/news/local/massachusetts/2014/07/26/hundreds-attend-anti-illegal-immigration-rally-beacon-hill/tEgyzS5TE5Z6YiI8VBP6aP/story.html]http://www.boston.com/news/local/massac ... story.html
