34 ARRESTED IN GEORGIA IN OPERATION SOUTHERN IMPACT II
Postal workers, pastors, disc jockeys and youth directors were among more than 70 arrested in eight states.

http://www.11alive.com/mobile/article/n ... e=facebook
A total of 76 people – some of them postal workers, pastors and daycare administrators – were arrested as part of a massive, multi-state child exploitation operation conducted across eight southern states, including Georgia.

In Georgia, 34 people were arrested and 13 children were rescued during Operation Southern Impact II, according to the GBI. Many of those arrests involved the possession and/or distribution of child pornography.

:snippity:

Six of those arrested in Georgia traveled for the purpose of meeting and having sex with a minor. There was one arrest involving sextortion, which involves subjects who obtain sexually explicit photos of minors and then threaten or blackmail the victim for additional obscene images or videos.

Eight registered sex offenders were also arrested in Georgia. At least one foster parent with young children was arrested.

More than 120 missing children found in Michigan human trafficking sting

https://www.chron.com/news/article/More ... =sftwitter
More than 120 children were recovered in Detroit as part of an initiative to find victims of sex trafficking, according to officials.

The U.S. Marshals Service found 123 children on Sept. 26 out of the total 301 cases they were investigating.

All the children who were recovered were interviewed by authorities.

Investigators said at least three of the children showed signs that they were victims of sex trafficking or sexually victimized.

Sometimes our law enforcement does its job. But 120 kids? Who let that happen?

Interesting press release. https://www.usmarshals.gov/news/chron/2018/100318.htm
The one-day initiative took place Sept. 26 throughout Wayne County. The USMS DMCRU coordinated with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, HUD-OIG, Detroit Police Department and the Michigan State Police and investigated missing child case files prior to the operation. Participating officers were given the case files and began investigating their whereabouts by visiting last known addresses, friend’s homes and schools in hopes of finding them in a safe place.

Out of 301 files of missing children, 123 were identified and recovered safely during the operation. All 123 children were physically located and interviewed -- standard protocol for the Michigan State Police. All of the children located were interviewed about potentially being sexually victimized or used in a sex trafficking ring during their period of time that they were deemed missing. Three cases were identified as being possible sex trafficking cases, and one homeless teen was transported back to the command post after it was discovered that he had not had anything to eat in three days. He was then debriefed and turned over to Child Protective Services for aftercare.
So most of them weren’t trafficked? Only 3? Were the rest custodial interference? Runaways? Castaways?

Something smelled about this from the first time I heard it. 123 kids found and interviewed in a single day? Really? Oops. No, only 4 were actually missing. Most of the rest had already been located but the police had not been notified by their parents. And everything is about human trafficking now because that's the new big thing. I'm betting federal money has been tied to it. I'm thrilled that they found the 4 missing kids but this isn't anything close to what it was made out to be. Fake news courtesy of the U.S. Marshals Service.
The U.S. Marshals Service said a major effort to find missing kids and victims of sex trafficking in one Michigan county resulted in the recovery of 123 children in September. But state police said just four of the children were actually missing.

According to the Michigan State Police, the majority of the children had been reported missing, then returned home, but their guardians didn’t notify police, according to The Detroit News. The revelation suggests the service may have wildly exaggerated the success of the operation in an Oct. 3 press release.

Texas couple convicted of keeping African girl as slave for 16 years

A couple who enslaved a West African girl at their home in Texas for 16 years have been convicted by a federal jury.

Mohamed Touré, the son of Guinea’s first president Ahmed Sékou Touré, and his wife Denise Cros-Toure arranged for the child to travel to the US when she was only five years old.

They forced her to cook, clean and look after their biological children without pay, beat and whipped her and called her a “dog” and a “slave”.

The girl eventually managed to escape from the house in Southlake with the help of concerned neighbours in 2016.

Touré and his wife now face a maximum of 20 years in prison after being found guilty of forced labour, conspiracy to commit alien harbouring and alien harbouring.

Interesting statement just issued by @phoenixpolice re: @cindymccain in regards to @KTAR923's recent story: "On January 30, 2019 at approximately 1:26 p.m., Phoenix Police officers assigned to Sky Harbor International Airport conducted a Check Welfare on a child..." (thread)

"...at the request of Mrs. Cindy McCain. During the Check Welfare, officers determined there was no evidence of criminal conduct or child endangerment." Will be curious to see Mrs. McCain's response.

So was the lady carrying the kid black or latino and the kid white :?: Why would it be suspicious if a relative brought the kid to meet its father arriving at the airport?

Seems likely.

From the KTAR story-
“I came in from a trip I’d been on and I spotted — it looked odd — it was a woman of a different ethnicity than the child, this little toddler she had, and something didn’t click with me. … I went over to the police and told them what I saw and they went over and questioned her and, by God, she was trafficking that kid,” McCain said.

Phoenix Police dispute Cindy McCain’s claim of human trafficking at airport

http://ktar.com/story/2427834/phoenix-p ... t-airport/
Phoenix Police disputed Cindy McCain’s claims that she witnessed human trafficking at Sky Harbor International Airport last week.

Phoenix Police Sgt. Armando Carbajal told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Wednesday that they conducted a welfare check on a child at the airport Thursday at McCain’s request.

During the call, “officers determined there was no evidence of criminal conduct or child endangerment,” he said.

KTAR News has reached out to McCain for a response to the police statement.

My husband's family is third generation Irish American. Most of them were pale blonde as children and redheads or dishwater blondes as adults. My brother-in-law, J, is blonde and married a Latina woman from an old Hispanic New Mexican family. There first two children, daughters, were brunettes with pale skins with olive overtones. Their third child, a son, had fair blonde hair and the complexion of an Irish child. My SIL would just laugh and shake her head when she was asked "how did that happen?"

As a toddler, their son got separated from them in a Mexican airport. When my sister-in-law was reunited with him, the authorities originally refused to believe she was his mother, despite him trying to cling to her. It got sorted quickly, but it just goes to show that you can't always depend on visual cues. Their son is older now, but his hair refuses to darken beyond dishwater blonde, though it is a few shades darker than his father's.

One would think the white adoptive mother of a child of color would have a more nuanced reaction than Cindy McCain demonstrated.

Four men charged with slavery after 29 people found in Devon

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/201 ... 1555243015
Four men have been charged with modern slavery offences after 29 people believed to be from Vietnam were found in the back of a van that was stopped on the M5 in Devon.

Police stopped the vehicle on Friday morning near Cullompton after reports that a group of people were seen getting into the back of a van after arriving on a boat.

On Sunday, four men – Frank Walling, 72, from Colne, Jon Ransom, 63, from Kent, Keith Royston Plummer, 62, from Sheerness, and Glen Martin Bennett, 55, from Burnley – were charged with human trafficking and assisting unlawful immigration to a member state. They were remanded in custody and will appear at Truro magistrates court on Monday.

Devon and Cornwall police said: “The van and another vehicle were stopped by officers on the M5 near J28 just after 9am in which 29 men, women and children were located, all believed to be Vietnamese. Police and partners continue to take care of those located in the van.”

The editors failed in the review of the chosen title. Nowhere in the article is anything mentioned of slavery. The men picked up a group that managed to enter the UK illegally against UK and still existing EU laws. The article doesn't mention anywhere where this group would have ended up.

Mexican church leader held in LA on child rape and trafficking charges
Light of the World ‘apostle’ Joaquín García arrested at airport
Allegations concern three girls and a woman in 2015-2018

Associated Press in Los Angeles

Wed 5 Jun 2019 15.23 BST Last modified on Wed 5 Jun 2019 15.48 BST

The leader and self-proclaimed apostle of La Luz del Mundo, a Mexico-based church with branches in the US that claims more than 1 million followers, has been charged with human trafficking and child rape.

Joaquín García and a follower of the church, 24-year-old Susana Medina Oaxaca, were arrested on Monday after landing at Los Angeles international airport, the office of California’s attorney general, Xavier Becerra, said.

About 1,000 worshippers gathered at the headquarters of La Luz del Mundo in Guadalajara, Jalisco, on Tuesday evening to pray for García as he was held in Los Angeles on $25m bail.

García, 50, faces 26 counts of felony charges that range from human trafficking and production of child abuse images to rape of a minor. The charges detail a series of disturbing allegations involving three girls and one woman between 2015 and 2018 in Los Angeles county.
