Any bets on how long before the first friendly fire incident with a US citizen?

What could possibly go wrong with this idea? As y'all have pointed, only everything!

I thought yesterday was nasty (Putin being invited to the White House & lots more Sinclair) but today, holy moly, today. I'm with the rest of you on "escalating quickly". I've been mostly avoiding the news today (after yesterday) but every time I've checked in, there has been disbelief followed by cursing.

The Oval Office visit with Latvia, Estonia, & (I can't remember) where Himself worked to get the leaders to compliment him on being tough on Russia & speaking for them when they wouldn't was awful. Then this announcement (military to guard border), followed by the active shooter at YouTube. And then there's the never ending Pruitt stories. I am sorely in need of a comfortable bunker with all of you so we can eat, drink, vent, & have group hugs. Days like this make my asthma kick in (stress &/or very high humidity trigger it) & it felt like I could barely catch my breath before the next holy fuck moment kicked in.

I really don't like this future. I was hoping for Star Trek & we ended up in Blade Runner.

CNN
Some lawmakers don't want military involved with the border wall ...

Democrats responded to Trump's remarks by saying he is using resources he shouldn't to accomplish what he wants. Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell of California, who is on the House Judiciary Committee, tweeted his opposition to Trump, writing the President needs to put the military first.

"So, @realDonaldTrump, you want our military to build your wall? Why don't you first visit them in a war zone (you haven't), take care of their health care (you don't), & give them a job when they enter civilian life (you have no plan). Put them first, not yourself," he tweeted Tuesday. ...

Rep. Ruben Gallego, an Arizona Democrat who serves on the House Armed Services Committee, slammed Trump for wanting to use the military and waste "time, resources and money." ...

And Democratic Sen. Brian Schatz of Hawaii argued the military is busy enough and shouldn't have to also protect the border.

"Our military has more important things to do than to be mobilized to fulfill a politicians campaign promise," he tweeted. "Also, spending money on a wall or guarding a wall would require a new law, which would fail spectacularly in the Senate."

If trump is dumb enough to believe that we are about to be overrun by illegals, then you just know that a bunch of militia yahoos are gearing up to protect  the border.

I just wonder how well these self-appointed guardians are going to get along with the US military?

Okay somebody asked me my thoughts on the Caravan that is being organized and led by people Without Borders approximately 1500 people marching towards US border. what should we do we should treat it as any other hostile invading Force. Hit the invading Force long before they reach our border. I promise you one A-10 will put the brakes to their invasion.
And don't whine and cry to me about the women and children if you think women and children can't be a part of a hostile invading Force you never fought in combat. And please let the United Nations try to escort them across our borders we can smoke them to..
Also let me add if Mexico does not attempt to stop this invading force or assists in the invasion in Crossing Mexico in anyway. It should be taken as an act of aggression and War and we should smoke Mexico City also.

You'd think with our troops already spread over half the globe it might be a little bit of a strain to deploy an army on the border.
Where’d you think the extra money added to the military budget was earmarked for? :crying: ;) :crying:

And where exactly will these federal troops be housed? Is Sheriff Joe gonna run a tent city for our troops in the Arizona and Texas summers? What about all of the private landowners who will have federal troops occupying their properties? Any legal problems with that?
Well, they obviously can’t house them in people’s homes. That would be a violation of the third amendment prohibition on quartering of troops. But if they roll in and set up tents or temporary housing in conex boxes or whatever, I think that would at least be a taking under the fifth amendment and the government would have to compensate the landowner for that. But what does customs and border protection do currently? I’m sure they have to enter people’s private property in order to do their jobs.
Bagram Airfield and Base in Afghanistan has plenty of empty accomodations. Ship them to the south of the USA. Good training for yuuuge logistics and one does not need to care what the Taliban would turn them into once they take over the government again. One never knows when they need to be shipped over to N.Korea including the inhabitants.

Given the extent of private property along the border, this could lead to some really cool 3rd Amendment cases.

Where is Trump planning to have these troops camp out?
I seem to remember that dotus is a great supporter of Eminent Domain (especially when he attempted to build with his companies). How just take over a yuuuge strip along the border and just evict those pesky farmers ?

Depends - a lot - on exactly what Trump wants the military to do. Which is unclear.

One key thing to note is that the President has been expressing a great deal of outage at the so-called "catch and release" policy. There is little that can be done to change that. Once people cross the border, due process protections kick in. Stopping people from crossing is a virtual impossibility. I'm not sure how using the military would change that.

I fear that Trump envisions a line of dug-in troops with machine guns running from San Diego to Brownsville.
