Marines Open Investigation into Active-Duty White Supremacist

The U.S. Marine Corps said it has opened a criminal investigation into the activities of Lance Corporal Vasillios Pistolis, 19, identified as a violent white supremacist in a recent report by ProPublica and Frontline.

Stationed at North Carolina’s Camp Lejeune and assigned to the 2nd Marine Logistics Group, Pistolis has associated with an array of neo-Nazi organizations, including the National Socialist Movement, the Traditionalist Worker Party, and Atomwaffen Division, a clandestine group that aims to incite a race war, according to interviews and an analysis of video and online postings. Pistolis is under investigation by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, or NCIS, which typically examines felony-level offenses involving Navy or Marine Corps personnel. ...

Through interviews, photos, videos and the Marine’s own online admissions, ProPublica and Frontline documented his involvement with the various fascist groups and his participation in a string of assaults during last summer’s lethal Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia. Pistolis also made posts in online chats obtained by Unicorn Riot, an independent media organization.

This is the second time Pistolis has drawn scrutiny from NCIS. He told ProPublica and Frontline he’d been questioned about his extremist activities several months ago by NCIS investigators, but the investigation was apparently dropped. Military sources confirmed the existence of an earlier inquiry regarding Pistolis.

Responding to new reporting on the link between Atomwaffen and the armed forces, Rep. Keith Ellison, a Minnesota Democrat, urged Defense Secretary James Mattis to investigate Pistolis and his fellow neo-Nazis. Ellison also requested that the Department of Defense provide information to Congress about the military’s efforts to discipline white supremacists in the ranks and screen out racial extremists during the enlistment process.

It does not appeal to me that the DoD "discipline" the neo-Nazis in the military ranks. I want them all expelled from the military. Civil authorities can deal with them after that. Any of them in the military is in a position of too much power for a neo-Nazi.

NJ Today
Ranks of Notorious Hate Group Include Active-Duty Military ...

Pete Simi, co-author of the book “American Swastika” and an associate professor at Chapman University in California, said white supremacists often draw inspiration from the armed forces.

“Extremist culture tends to be paramilitary — the Klan, for instance, is a clearly paramilitary organization, it was started by former military officers,” said Simi. “A lot of traditional neo-Nazi groups tend to emulate military structure … Some skinhead groups do that as well.”

Organizations like Atomwaffen, he said, “need military people who have explosives experience, firearms experience, combat fighting experience” that they can pass on to other members. But there’s also another factor, in Simi’s view. “I think there’s also a credibility aspect to it, in that it gives more credibility to the group to have people who served in the U.S. military. It brings a certain gravitas.”

Last year, nearly 25 percent of active-duty service members surveyed by the Military Times said they’d encountered white nationalists within the ranks. The publication polled more than 1,000 service members. ...

For Simi, a key question is whether the Department of Defense and various military branches are effectively enforcing these policies by screening volunteers as they enter the service and thoroughly investigating reports of extremist activity by service members. If the figures in the Military Times survey “are anywhere close to credible, then there’s clearly a problem that isn’t being addressed,” Simi said.

Discipline??? Discipline???? HTF do you "discipline" someone whose very values and belief systems are contrary, and possibly/probably violently so, to your corps' value system??? And you're going to '"discipline" them??? Say what???

Many years ago (about 30) there was a report (maybe a rumor) that urban gangs had hit on the strategy of encouraging at least one member to enlist in the Armed Services, most likely the Army or Marines for infantry or commando-type warfare, with a view toward this member coming back in a few years and sharing all he had learned with the other gang members.

Whether that rumor was true or not, nazified members of the US forces are certainly likely to be particularly formidable members of the Nazi Party (or its clones) even after their military discharge. The forces used to (probably still does) 'marginalize' servicemen known to have Communist sympathies, giving them innocuous assignments until they could be eased out of the service. I don't see why the same isn't done with Nazi and Klan symps.

I personally have only met one person in the military that I knew for a fact was a white supremacist (I’m sure there were others).

I increasingly have Marxist sympathies, not seeing a viable akternative. That is not 'Communist." It is simply a recognitions of the truth of Marx's historical research.

I feel the same. I go along with Marx’s description of the problem but he loses me regarding the solution.

Yahoo News
Democratic lawmakers demand answers from Trump administration on extremists serving in U.S. military

House Democrats are calling on the Departments of Defense and Homeland Security to address renewed concerns over the incidence of white supremacy and other extremist behavior among members of the military following the recent arrest of a Coast Guard lieutenant who, according to federal prosecutors, was actively plotting deadly acts of domestic terrorism.

In a letter sent to Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan and DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen on Monday, Maryland Reps. Elijah Cummings, Anthony Brown and Jamie Raskin, as well as California Rep. Jackie Speier praised the “swift action taken by federal agencies” to arrest Christopher Hasson before he could carry out his alleged plans, but expressed concern “that an individual that espouses these views could repeatedly serve in the military across multiple services.” ...

“This latest incident is another in a series that tarnishes the proud legacy of the United States Armed Forces,” the Democratic lawmakers wrote in their letter, asking Nielsen and Shanahan to provide more information on the kinds of policies and procedures their respective departments have in place to screen recruits for supremacist or extremist ties, and how Lt. Hasson and other military service members with ties to extremist movements were able to circumvent such checks.

In a phone interview with Yahoo News Monday, Maryland Rep. Jamie Raskin, one of the signatories of the letter, compared the “very disturbing pattern that has begun to emerge of racist and white supremacist activity taking place in the armed forces,” to the issue of “sexual assault and sexual harassment within the military: it just doesn't have any place there.” ...

James told Yahoo News that it’s not just active duty members and veterans being radicalized but also white supremacists joining the military to get combat training. A Washington Post report last week found that immigrants face more scrutiny than white-supremacists when enlisting.

“Extremist organizations actively seek out active and veteran members of the military,” said James. “A lot of these groups really value the types of experience, tactical training, leadership ability that you get in the military so often now these groups are actively encouraging people to go and join the military to get that experience and then bring those skills back to their extremist groups. That’s another thing we need to look out for in terms of these groups actively seeking those types of experience.”

HuffPo
Exclusive: 7 U.S. Military Members Identified As Part Of White Nationalist Group

Leaked chat logs revealed military servicemen with ties to the extremist group Identity Evropa. ...

Two Marines, two Army ROTC cadets, an Army physician, a member of the Texas National Guard and one member of the Air Force all belong to an organization called Identity Evropa, which is listed by the Anti-Defamation League and the Southern Poverty Law Center as an extremist group.

For years, Identity Evropa members have used a server on Discord, a group chat app popular among the alt-right, to send messages to one another. Last week the independent media collective Unicorn Riot published the contents of that Discord server in its entirety.

A largely anonymous network of anti-fascist activists reviewed the Discord logs, using biographical details mentioned by Identity Evropa members, most of whom posted under pseudonyms, to uncover their offline identities.

Building off that research, HuffPost verified the identities of seven men currently serving in the military. Their messages on the Discord server indicate that they hold deeply racist and anti-Semitic views and participate in Identity Evropa propaganda campaigns, posting stickers and flyers in cities and on college campuses.

The Marine Corps, the Army, the Air Force and the Texas National Guard confirmed to HuffPost that the identified men were active members in those services. After HuffPost’s inquiries, the military is investigating some of the men’s possible ties to Identity Evropa; some servicemen were already under investigation as a result of previous tips. The military is determining whether they violated rules regarding discrimination and extremist activity. ...

Days after the chat logs were published, Identity Evropa’s leader, 29-year-old Patrick Casey, a resident of Virginia who rose to a leadership role after producing videos for a white nationalist site, announced a rebrand: Identity Evropa is now the American Identity Movement.

HuffPo
Exposed: Military Investigating 4 More Servicemen For Ties To White Nationalist Group

Four more members of the United States armed forces are now under investigation for their ties to a white nationalist group, military officials have confirmed to HuffPost.

A lance corporal in the Marines, a master sergeant in the Air Force, a specialist in the Army, and a private in the Minnesota National Guard have been identified as belonging to Identity Evropa, an organization listed by the Anti-Defamation League and the Southern Poverty Law Center as an extremist group.

There are now a total of 11 Identity Evropa members known to be under investigation by the U.S. military. Last month, HuffPost found seven other U.S. servicemen were being investigated over their connections to the group.

The investigations, which could last for months, are looking into whether the 11 servicemen violated military rules regarding discrimination and extremist activity. All 11 could face expulsion from the armed services, or even be court martialed and potentially sentenced to time in prison.

Inspired by Dallas courthouse shooter, Air Force base circulates 'incel' warning signs

A Maryland Air Force base is teaching its personnel to recognize the warning signs posed by "introverted, sexless individuals" in the wake of a discharged Army veteran's attempts to shoot up a federal courthouse in Dallas this week.

Brian Isaack Clyde, who was killed Monday after firing shots into the Earle Cabell Federal Building in downtown Dallas, shared several "involuntary celibate," or incel, memes in his social media accounts.

That connection, according to the Air Force Times, inspired the brass at Joint Base Andrews to initiate a program alerting airmen to signs that someone might belong to the online incel community — men who can't find romantic partners and who sometimes react violently because of it.

Clyde, 22, shared memes prevalent in the incel community in some of his social media posts, including one that referred to a "Chad rampage" vs. a "virgin shooting." The Chad vs. virgin trope is a common incel meme.

Ah... ha... so is the Air Force also going to put up signs warning about memes and dogwhistles used by the white nationalists or christian nationalist communities?

What the actual fuck??? THIS is how not being obviously engaged in a sexual relationship is viewed? THIS is the danger sign here???? Being an introvert??? Not the misogynist, violent, aggressive words and deeds???? Seriously? Am I reading "sexless" wrong???

Jesus H Christ, the Maryland Air Force just threw a whole lot of good people minding their own business under a very large bus.

There is a difference between those of us who are rather introverted with no social life but are entirely comfortable with it, and those who want to blame the world for being that way.

There is still a bit of a stigma to being single, even if it is by choice (or inaction).
Edit: The incels are not interested in a relationship, or even a memorable one-night, but instead want possession and conquest.
