I don't even know where to put this...

Israel Denies Entry to Omar and Tlaib After Trump’s Call to Block Them
JERUSALEM — Israel on Thursday barred the entry of two American Democratic congresswomen who had planned to visit the West Bank, hours after President Trump had urged the country to block them.

Mr. Trump’s intervention was an extraordinary step to influence an allied nation and punish his political opponents at home.

The two congresswomen, Representatives Rashida Tlaib of Michigan and Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, both freshmen, are the first two Muslim women elected to Congress. Both are outspoken adversaries of Mr. Trump and have been vocal in their support of the Palestinians and the boycott-Israel movement.

The president has targeted them in speeches and Twitter postings that his critics have called racist and xenophobic.

Just my arrogant opinion but wouldn't it have been a PR coup to let them come over, give them the grand tour, diplomacy and such? This just makes Bibi look like trump's puppet.

Trump said Netanyahu would look weak if he let them come and reports say Netanyahu needs Trump’s support to win re-election. Plus Trump will do anything to fuck with people he doesn’t like and use whoever is available to help him do it, and he gives not a single shit about any consequences. He's such an asshole.

House.speaker.gov (Press Release)
Pelosi Statement on Israel’s Decision to Block Members of Congress from Entering the Country

August 15, 2019

San Francisco – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement after the Government of Israel announced its decision to prevent Congresswomen Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar from entering the country:

“As one who loves Israel, I am deeply saddened by the news that Israel has decided to prevent Members of Congress from entering the country.

“Last month, Israeli Ambassador Dermer stated that, ‘Out of respect for the U.S. Congress and the great alliance between Israel and America, we would not deny entry to any Member of Congress into Israel.’ This is a sad reversal and is deeply disappointing. I pray that the Government of Israel will reverse that denial.

“Israel’s denial of entry to Congresswomen Tlaib and Omar is a sign of weakness, and beneath the dignity of the great State of Israel. The President’s statements about the Congresswomen are a sign of ignorance and disrespect, and beneath the dignity of the Office of the President.”

To call Israel a "Great State" is a little hyperbolic.

Well, it is the only democracy in the Middle East. Although like many democracies, one in some decline.

He leaked that Greenland horseshit to control the media narritive again. People were starting to talk about recession in 18 months so he sent that out to bury that and get people talking about him again.

Its bullshit. You should know how he operates by now. Don't be manipulated.

Not really, a proper distraction would be an ICE raid on double glazing companies or something. This is just the OSG being ridiculous.

From the New Yorker:

https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2019 ... y-of-trump
Pompeo, an evangelical Christian who keeps an open Bible on his desk, now says it’s possible that God raised up Trump as a modern Queen Esther, the Biblical figure who convinced the King of Persia to spare the Jewish people. He defines his own job as serving the President, whatever the President asks of him. “A Secretary of State has to know what the President wants,” he said, at a recent appearance in Washington. “To the extent you get out of synch with that leader, then you’re just out shooting the breeze.” No matter what Trump has said or done, Pompeo has stood by him. As a former senior White House official told me, “There will never be any daylight publicly between him and Trump.” The former official said that, in private, too, Pompeo is “among the most sycophantic and obsequious people around Trump.” Even more bluntly, a former American ambassador told me, “He’s like a heat-seeking missile for Trump’s ass.”

Danes furious over postponement of Trump’s visit, call his behavior ‘insulting’

BERLIN — Danish lawmakers on Wednesday reacted in fury to President’s Trump’s postponement of his two-day visit in early September to Denmark after its prime minister said she was not interested in selling him the autonomous island of Greenland.

Parliamentarians and former government ministers slammed the president’s behavior as juvenile, undiplomatic and insulting, though the government itself has yet to comment on the visit’s cancellation and instead scheduled a news conference for the afternoon.

“It’s an insult from a close friend and ally,” Michael Aastrup Jensen, a member of the Danish parliament with the influential center-right Venstre party, told The Washington Post. He said Trump’s interest in purchasing Greenland took the country by surprise and was initially widely considered to be a joke, before Danes realized the full extent of “this disaster.”

Jensen said Danish lawmakers felt misled and “appalled” by the president, who “lacks even basic diplomatic skills,” he said. “There was no word [ahead of time] about: ‘I want to buy Greenland and that’s why I’m coming.’”
Adding:
The Week: Coincidentally, Obama is visiting Denmark in late September ...

Meanwhile, a month before Trump's visit, thousands of people had "already signed up for a demonstration against him," the Copenhagen Post reported last week. "So it looks like the Danes prefer Obama over Trump after all. ..." Apropos of nothing.

Those were fun. There's a theory that trump is using Greenland as an excuse to cancel because the Danes have already planned protests against trump but are wildly excited about Obama's visit.

Not saying that's the case, but it's unfortunate for trump that he burned his bridges with Obama. Maybe they would have sold Greenland to him. (snark off)

I guess you didn't get the memo?

L'état, c'est moi.

(Although, in checking this out, I found there is no evidence that Louis XIV (1638-1715) actually said this.)

Edit: I actually kind of hope that PM Mette Frederiksen toys with Trump a bit over this.
