Yuk, Prenda Law, not friendly folk. Arrogant, greedy and dishonest. Definitely sharks rather than eagles. One of the triumvirate, Paul Duffy, died this summer in his mid-50s apparently from ill health induced by chronic alcoholism. It has been speculated that these bad habits might have been brought on by stress, worry or guilt at the judicial shitstorm this bunch had created. If so, it's sad, but merits no great sympathy.

A comment at TechDirt:
TechDirt commenter wrote:[Paul Hansmeier's] father is Gordon Hansmeier.

Gordon H. Hansmeier, Rajkowski Hansmeier Ltd., was appointed chair of the Seventh District Bar Association’s Ethics Committee by the Minnesota Supreme Court.

Dad has a reputation for being an honest and hard working attorney. Must be wondering what went wrong.

Worse than Orly Taitz:
The practice of law can be abundantly rewarding, but also stressful. The absence of civility displayed by some practitioners heightens stress and debases the legal profession. Those attorneys who allow their personal animosity for an opposing counsel or an opposing party to infect a case damage their reputations and blemish the dignity of the profession they have taken an oath to uphold.

In Green v. GTE California, Inc. (1994) 29 Cal.App.4th 407, 408, we said counsel's comments and actions at a deposition made the term "civil procedure" an oxymoron. In comparison to what occurred in this case, one could almost say the offending counsel in Green conducted himself with decorum.

Here the practice of law became more than stressful; it was dangerous. An attorney representing himself threatened defendants' counsel with pepper spray and a stun gun at a deposition. When defendants moved for terminating sanctions, plaintiff filed an opposition that was openly contemptuous of the trial court. Such conduct can have consequences. (See In re Koven (2005) 134 Cal.App.4th 262.) The trial court granted defendants' motion for terminating sanctions. Plaintiff appeals the ensuing judgment. We affirm.
Crawford v. JPMorgan Chase Bank, N.A. (Dec. 9, 2015) ___ Cal.App.4th ___ (B257412).

The State Bar Court (when awake) recommended disbarment. Even if Crawford exhausts his appeals, that will be the likely result.

From CACOA:
[Crawford] requests [the trial court] to sentence [Chase bank] to death pursuant to Cal. Penal Code Section 190.2 and the imposition of sanctions against Plaintiff of not less [than] $265 million dollars
Really puts the "terminating" in "terminating sanctions."

Needless to say, Crawford appears to be mentally ill.

Crawford, like you do, ran for a judgeship (in 2014):
His opponent for Superior Court seat 9, Douglas James Crawford, faces suspension of his law license for advising opposing counsel of threats made by his client to instigate an IRS audit if settlement talks in a lawsuit were not commenced. He denies wrongdoing and has filed an appeal. He has also drawn criticism for racial remarks regarding an African-American judge and for offering free legal advice to white supremacist groups. In addition, an East County Magazine investigation reveals that Crawford has previously been sanctioned by the California 4th District Court of Appeal for “intentionally misleading” a court and bank regarding his mother’s death. Moreover, the court found that Crawford claimed to represent his mother’s estate after allowing his license to practice law to become inactive.
Unlike Kreep, Crawford lost.

Crawford made a motion to disqualify the judge in the case involving the stun gun and pepper spray (before the judge was able to rule on the motion to dismiss the case). The Court of Appeal's opinion describes Crawford's "grounds":
Crawford alleged that the trial judge's prior rulings against him show bias; that the trial judge was a volunteer at the Ventura County mock trial competition in 1991, and that Matthew won the competition; that the trial judge keeps a picture of Robert E. Lee in his chambers, and Crawford is a relative of Lee; that the trial judge keeps a picture of his daughter in his chambers, which "portends" the question whether Matthew and his daughter were ever romantically linked; that the trial judge and another judge worked in the Attorney General's office at the same time and that Crawford ran against the other judge in a judicial election; and that the trial judge and the judge that Crawford challenged in a judicial election shared membership in the California District Attorneys Association.

I don't think that reading is correct. "Matthew" is Crawford's brother.

By the way - one of the recently retired judges of that court is now the chief disciplinary counsel in my home jurisdiction.

Bryan Wilson, Texas Law Hawk, is getting national attention for his goofy ads.

Not exactly behaving badly. Acting badly might be more descriptive.

Off topic, but I think the best place to post it anyway..

And I just don't understand the whole 'social media star' thing.

This 24-year-old dropped out of law school to become a Vine star

http://www.techinsider.io/robby-ayala-v ... ey-2015-12

How does a person make a lot of money on vine?

And, from what I've seen on Vine, they're mostly awful.

Him running down the sidewalk in a suit with tie flapping in the wind whilst he just says the bbblllrrrrrrrrrr sound of a scooter instead of actually riding a scooter was the most adorable thing ever done by a young Texas lawyer for a commercial, ever.

Then...

ABC: Dean of Berkeley Law School Steps Down Amid Harassment Suit:
The dean of UC Berkeley's law school went on an indefinite leave of absence Wednesday after his executive assistant sued him over allegations of sexual harassment and the university for, in her view, not doing enough to prevent it.

Berkeley Law Dean Sujit Choudhry will remain as a faculty member and earn a professor's salary at the school while an interim dean serves in his place, Provost Claude Steele announced in a statement Wednesday.

Choudhry's assistant, Tyann Sorrell, said in a lawsuit filed Tuesday that she brought the case because the dean acknowledged kissing and touching her repeatedly but received only a temporary pay cut as punishment following a campus investigation last year.

* * *

Sorrell, 41, said the unwanted physical contact — which included bear hugs, arm and shoulder rubs, kisses on the face and her boss once placing her hands on his waist — happened multiple times on a near-daily basis, while Choudhry said it was once or twice a week at most, according to the report.

* * *

Steele confirmed that campus investigators found that the dean's behavior violated campus policies and that Choudhry "demonstrated a failure to understand the power dynamic and the effect of his actions on the plaintiff personally and in her employment."

Steele said he decided that docking the dean's salary by 10 percent for one year, requiring him to undergo counseling, making him apologize, and allowing Sorrell to go on leave with full pay "would be an appropriate and effective response, and would produce the necessary changes in his behavior."

Choudhry told Steele on Wednesday morning that he wanted to relinquish the dean's job so the lawsuit would not become a distraction for the law school and the campus, Berkeley spokesman Dan Mogulof said. As dean, Choudhry earned a salary of $415,000, and he will make $284,200 as a faculty member, Mogulof said.

Another Berkeley Law dean, John Dwyer, resigned in 2002 after a former student accused him of molesting her after a night of drinking at her apartment.

So, "once or twice a week at most" is a freebie?
