ICE set to begin immigration raids in 10 cities on Sunday

https://www.cnn.com/2019/06/21/politics ... index.html
Immigration and Customs Enforcement is pressing forward to arrest and deport families with court-ordered removals in 10 cities beginning Sunday, according to a senior immigration official, after President Donald Trump's tweet revealing an operation was imminent.

But acting Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kevin McAleenan has been hesitant about elements of the operation, according to two sources familiar with his thinking.

ICE has said it was considering options to arrest and deport families who have gone through their legal proceedings but has refrained from publicly providing the scope and timeframe of the operation, which officials say could lead to a situation where a family is separated and could cause a backlash against the department.

To that end, Trump's tweet Monday night that ICE, the enforcement arm of DHS, was preparing to deport "millions" of undocumented immigrants next week was striking, given the figure and the decision to disclose an operation prior to its execution.

:snippity:
What ICE actually did in 2018
In FY2018, ERO removed 256,086 illegal aliens, reflecting an increase of 13% over FY2017. The majority of removals (57%) were convicted criminals. Additionally, 5,914 of the removed illegal aliens were classified as either known or suspected gang members or terrorists, which is a 9% increase over FY2017.

https://www.ice.gov/features/ERO-2018
what ICE did in 2017
In FY2017, ICE conducted 226,119 removals. While this is a slight overall decrease from the prior fiscal year, the proportion of removals resulting from ICE arrests increased from 65,332, or 27 percent of total removals in FY2016 to 81,603, or 36 percent of total removals, in FY2017.

https://www.ice.gov/removal-statistics/2017
IOW dotus has magnificiently overstated the capacitiy that ICE has for removals within one year, far less for a limited campaign to be started.

At the request of Democrats, I have delayed the Illegal Immigration Removal Process (Deportation) for two weeks to see if the Democrats and Republicans can get together and work out a solution to the Asylum and Loophole problems at the Southern Border. If not, Deportations start!

Unlikely that they can do in two weeks what has eluded them for years. :?

'nuff time to move on to the next shiny object.

I suspect this shiny object wasn't getting the press he wanted.

Not more than any regular raid, it's in their job description. And with your top boss chatting in the Oval Office with Russians and disvulging secrets you ought not be wondering that he can't keep his mouth shut over confidential information.

Top immigration official says ICE is ready to deport 1 million undocumented immigrants

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/ken-cuccin ... mmigrants/
"They're ready to just perform their mission, which is to go and find and detain and then deport the approximately one million people who have final removal orders," Acting USCIS Director Ken Cuccinelli said on "Face the Nation" Sunday, referring to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the Homeland Security branch charged with removal operations.

Cuccinelli, an immigration hardliner who took the helm of the agency last month, said it is within ICE's discretion to determine who among those with final orders of deportation will be targeted in operations, suggesting the full pool of approximately one million immigrants might not face deportation after all.

"They've been all the way through the due process and have final removal orders. Who among those will be targeted for this particular effort ... is really just information kept within ICE at this point," he added. "The pool of those with final removal orders is enormous."

The USCIS chief's assertions suggest that ICE is ready to conduct the series of roundups President Trump announced — and later postponed — in June.

To note - as I posted upthread - the capacity for removals by ICE over the last two years was at a quarter million people. Also too it seems they have no intention of skimming the roads and deport whoever they find but a selection of illegal migrants that have not left by themselves. Same enforcment by ICE as they alsways did, just now dotus made a big mole mountain to move.
