Rep. Tim Murphy, popular with pro-life movement, urged abortion in affair, texts suggest
A text message sent in January to U.S. Rep. Tim Murphy by a woman with whom he had an extra-marital relationship took him to task for an anti-abortion statement posted on Facebook from his office's public account.

"And you have zero issue posting your pro-life stance all over the place when you had no issue asking me to abort our unborn child just last week when we thought that was one of the options," Shannon Edwards, a forensic psychologist in Pittsburgh with whom the congressman admitted last month to having a relationship, wrote to Mr. Murphy on Jan. 25, in the midst of an unfounded pregnancy scare.

:snippity:

Another — a six-page memo to Mr. Murphy purportedly written by his chief of staff, Susan Mosychuk — described a hostile workplace in which Mr. Murphy repeatedly denigrated employees, threatened them and created a state of “terror.”

:snippity:

The June 8 memo, titled “Office Conduct and Behavior: Harassment/Legal Compliance,” says that there had been an "ongoing and ever more pronounced pattern of sustained inappropriate behavior" from the congressman.

Rep. Tim Murphy announces he will not seek re-election

http://www.post-gazette.com/news/politi ... 1710040205
“After discussions with my family and staff, I have come to the decision that I will not seek reelection to Congress at the end of my current term,” the Upper St. Clair Republican said in a statement.

“I plan to spend my remaining months in office continuing my work as the national leader on mental health care reform, as well as issues affecting working families in southwestern Pennsylvania.”

The statement mentioned nothing about reports on his marital infidelity, a text message discussing abortion and a document suggesting his staffers viewed him as an angry and erratic boss that preceded his decision to not seek re-election.

Sheesh, you ask one mistress to get an abortion while you're sitting on a committee to ban abortion, and suddenly everyone cals you a hypocrite.

I saw a link once, I think here in TFB, were the writer made the point that every abortion should be illegal except theirs.

He was my congress critter. I am so glad to see him gone. I reached his office once for help with my mother's VA benefits after my dad died, and the help never came. I was on his email list because of that until I answered one of his emails with my opinion as he had requested. It wasn't what he wanted to hear so I was dropped from his list. Then about a year ago he got my other email address and I have been getting his weekly Friday emails again. He doesn't seem to ask for anybody's opinions any more. I wonder if he will be sending out an email tomorrow night.

I don't dislike him because he didn't help with my mom's VA benefits. That stuff takes time and the VA came through before he helped. I dislike him because he is a typical RWNJ. He has stayed under the radar for a long time, but he is as bad as any of them.

He was first elected in 2002. By the next election there was a lot of talk about discord in his office. It didn't matter. He is a psychologist, but from all I hear he's a very nasty man who is very hard to work for.

The last time I called his office to ask him not to vote for the first ACA repeal, I was accused of yelling at the man who answered the phone. I did not. I was emotional about it and explained why, but he didn't apologize.

The way this district has been gerrymandered, I'm not sure how the next election will go. I'm not sure it would go Democratic as part of the district is a very rural red area. It's not quite Pennsyltucky, but close.

I'm happy to have both Murphy and Santorum in the rear-view mirror!

Rep. Tim Murphy, a staunch anti-abortion advocate, thought he could withstand the media furor that engulfed him after reports that he’d encouraged his extramarital lover to end her apparent pregnancy.

He was wrong.

Just one day after announcing he would retire after the 2018 election, Murphy reversed course and told Speaker Paul Ryan he was resigning effective Oct. 21. Murphy’s abrupt decision ended a 15-year career on Capitol Hill in a shocking manner. The 65-year-old Pennsylvania Republican was so safe in his conservative district that Democrats hadn’t even fielded an opponent against him during the past two election cycles.
Lots more at the link.

So they'll run a bale of hay with an (R) after it and it will win in the next election.

Probably true. I can't find the article right now, but I had read that a woman who is a Navy or Army reservist might be a good Democratic challenger and was interested. I'm pretty sure Murphy is/was in the reserves, too.

From what I'm reading, in general, though, is voters don't easily change their minds when it comes to a party vote, although they are more flexible in primaries. There's no word yet from the governor when an election will be held. It's too late to set it up for the November 7 election.

Trump voter fraud commission researcher arrested on child pornography charges

A Maryland man arrested this week after authorities said they found child pornography on his cellphone worked for President Donald Trump's voter fraud commission, according to a senior administration official.

Ronald Williams II, 37, of Suitland, was a researcher for the Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity, said the official, who requested anonymity to discuss a personnel matter.

Trump launched the commission after making unfounded claims that millions of fraudulently cast ballots cost him the popular vote in last year's election against Democrat Hillary Clinton. The commission is chaired by Vice President Mike Pence and co-chaired by Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, R.

Williams was on secondment to the commission from the Office of the Special Counsel, an independent federal investigative and prosecutorial agency. His work with the voting commission was abruptly terminated this week, the senior administration official said. A spokeswoman for the Office of the Special Counsel declined to comment on Williams' status with that agency.

Williams faces 11 counts of possession and distribution of child pornography, officials said.

Ohio lawmaker resigns after ‘inappropriate behavior’ with another man in state office

A married Ohio representative who believes in a “natural marriage” between a man and woman stepped down after House leaders confronted him about “inappropriate behavior” with another male in his state office.

Rep. Wes Goodman resigned Tuesday after Speaker Cliff Rosenberger learned of the allegations against the Cardington Republican, who later confirmed them to be true, the Columbus Dispatch reported.

There are no details about the “inappropriate behavior” — which occurred several weeks ago in the lawmaker’s state-provided office — other than that it involved a male in a consensual situation, Rosenberger told the Dispatch.

The interaction did not involve any Statehouse staff or legislators and no harassment complaints have been filed, Brad Miller, Rosenberger’s spokesman, added.

Jeff Miller expected to resign from City-County Council amid child molestation charges

Jeff Miller on Friday told Marion County Republican leaders he will step down from the City-County Council after prosecutors charged him with three counts of child molestation.

Miller faces three level 4 felony counts of child molestation, according to court records in which he is quoted as acknowledging there might be truth to the allegations.

Each charge would carry a sentence of two to 12 years in prison if Miller is convicted. He was arrested Friday afternoon.

Miller is accused of fondling two young girls at his Fletcher Place house, according to a probable cause affidavit filed Friday in Marion Superior Court. The 50-year-old Republican council member did not respond to requests for comment. ...

One girl saw the Weinstein story on television and decided to tell her father about massages she had received from Miller, according to court records. The 10-year-old told her father the touching was inappropriate.

Columbus Dispatch
Emails: Goodman groped 18-year-old man after DC fundraiser

When state Rep. Wes Goodman resigned this week after being confronted about a sexual interaction in his office involving a man, multiple Statehouse observers said some version of the same thing: This isn’t everything.

A new revelation shown in emails and documents obtained by the Washington Post depicts another sexual encounter that, unlike the one in Goodman's state office, was not consensual.

An 18-year-old college student who attended an October 2015 fundraiser near Washington was invited to Goodman's hotel room, where he fell asleep but in the middle of the night woke up when Goodman was unzipping the young man's pants and fondling him, sending him running from Goodman’s room to his parents, the emails said.

The boy’s stepfather wrote to Tony Perkins, president of the Council for National Policy, an evangelical activist group that hosted the event. “If we endorse these types of individuals, then it would seem our whole weekend together was nothing more than a charade,” the stepfather wrote, the Post said. ...

“One of the young guys didn’t want to go, and Wes really made fun of him and told him he ‘had a vagina’ and made sarcastic remarks about him being like a woman,” the teen wrote in a statement, obtained by the newspaper, that was sent to Perkins.

Former state Sen. Ralph Shortey agrees to plead guilty to child sex trafficking charge

OKLAHOMA CITY — Former state Sen. Ralph Shortey has agreed to plead guilty to a child sex trafficking offense for offering to pay a 17-year-old boy for sexual “stuff” last March.

In exchange for his guilty plea, federal prosecutors have agreed to drop three child pornography counts against him.

A jury trial for Shorty had been set to begin Dec. 5 in Oklahoma City federal court. He is now scheduled to plead guilty Nov. 30 instead.

By making a deal, Shortey, 35, hopes to avoid being locked up for nearly the rest of his life. Still, he will be required to serve at least a 10-year prison term, the mandatory minimum time for child sex trafficking.

Associated Press
Conservatives knew 'family values' pol had secret gay life ...

The office encounter was the final straw that last week ended his political rise as a self-proclaimed Christian conservative, which had taken Goodman from congressional campaign worker to Capitol Hill aide to a seat in the Ohio House.

His resignation also prompted a flood of firsthand accounts, official confirmations and document releases that shed new light on Goodman's secret gay activities, which turned out not to have been a secret to several conservative groups, House Republicans or their campaign operation.

The nation's leading anti-gay marriage organization, Cincinnati-based Citizens for Community Values, was among the Christian conservative groups that knew of Goodman's extramarital sexual contact with other men before his election last year.

Board member Seth Morgan told The Associated Press the group discovered — after it had endorsed him in last year's legislative primary — that Goodman had engaged in consensual gay activity. Goodman faced no general election opposition and was said to be "dealing with it," Morgan said, so the issue was set aside by CCV and another group that was briefed, Ohio's Conservative Republican Leadership Committee.

Morgan said he sees no hypocrisy in the values movement's support of Goodman, adding "we're not perfect people."
