Trump will not understand the meaning in every carefully-crafted sentence..

Gonna guess he'll pick one phrase and emit a stupid tweet based on that..

Nancy needs to follow up on that and pass a spending bill just to explicitly cover the costs associated with designating the superbowl as a National Special Security Event.

Then watch the GOP sit on it.

I would think Trump wants the optics of addressing 535 members of Congress. There's a certain gravitas to that that no other location will provide.

This kind of stuff is why the GOP spent over a year trying to persuade Dems to get rid of Pelosi.

Trump's least humiliating exit is to stand aside and let @senatemajldr reopen the Govt for him - in exchange for a promise by Trump not then to blast McConnell as a weak-willed loser sell-out. Problem: McConnell is not such a fool as to trust a Trump promise
Which is probably why Trump is apparently ordering some furloughed workers back to work - without pay. Its to forestall complete collapse as long as possible, that the effects to the general public are minimized as long as he can.

This is the Nancy Pelosi that's been ready and able for decades. The stories about her now are great fun. I've always been a big fan and now she's headed for the exits on her own terms. But before she does, she's going to try getting everybody healthcare.

Here's a fun story from WaPo:
‘She wields the knife’: Pelosi moves to belittle and undercut Trump in shutdown fight
By Paul Kane, Philip Rucker and Josh Dawsey January 16 at 8:09 PM

House Democrats on Wednesday were making plans to undermine President Trump at his Jan. 29 State of the Union address. Just past 8:30 a.m., the leadership’s communications arm sent an email to lawmakers urging them to bring furloughed federal workers or other “message-related” guests to the nationally televised event.

Unknown to most of her caucus, however, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) had decided on a more confrontational approach. Addressing a closed-door meeting of House Democrats, the speaker read a letter she had just sent to Trump asking him to either postpone the speech until the federal government reopens or deliver the text in writing, citing security concerns.

Surprised Democratic lawmakers cheered their leader’s rationale: If the government stays shut down, Pelosi would deprive Trump of the spotlight he craves. To a president especially sensitive to acts of disrespect — and one with a hearty appetite for pomp and circumstance — the so-called unvitation was not merely a power play. It was a calculated personal slight.

In the two weeks since she reclaimed the speaker’s gavel, Pelosi has moved aggressively to leverage her decades of congressional experience to needle, belittle and undercut Trump with swipes at his competence and even his masculinity.
***
Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.) called her letter to Trump to delay the State of the Union speech her “Gene Hackman moment,” comparing it to an inspirational speech the actor gives a basketball team in the movie “Hoosiers.” “It’s smart for two reasons,” Cohen said. “Number one, Pelosi would be right behind him, and she’d have to sit there as he put the onus on her for the shutdown. Number two, it gives him a reason to end the shutdown, because he loves the TV audience and the attention.”
***
Rep. Max Rose, a centrist Democrat elected last fall in Trump-friendly Staten Island in New York, was one of seven Democrats in the “Problem Solvers Caucus” who went to the White House on Wednesday to meet with Trump. But he said he was solidly in Pelosi’s corner, even though he did not support her as speaker. “She’s bailing the president out, man,” Rose said. “Do you think the president of the United States is going to deliver a State of the Union during a government shutdown and say it’s good?”

Its not really out of character. When something really bad happens he goes silent for 24 hours till he figures out a way he is still winning, then he goes onto overdrive. Plus he has been going mental for days now, so he probably has punched himself out for a bit, so he is probably sitting in a depressive funk.

The FOX News response was to have I-can-only-lie grifter Dan Bongino (as a former Secret Service prostitution seeking loser
Agent) discuss how ironic it was that Pelosi doesn't care about Border Security, but wants to pretend she cares about Trump.

(My prediction-- Dan Bongino will be in rehab within a year. He looked rough.)

Pelosi's image has suffered in past years due to incessant right-wing demonizing. People are now getting to see her in action (many of whom didn't pay much attention to the workings of the House in past years). She got a lot of favorable (within Dem circles) mention during the midterms and after about her crucial role in passing the ACA. And now she's playing Trump in full public view. You have to pass it elect her Speaker to see what's in it what she can do.

An air horn every time he lies during the speech would be a nice touch. Sort of like the ref whistle during a football game but louder and more obnoxious.

Agree, he is way off the deep end, but it's nothing new. Hannity loves to showcase the mentally ill on his show. He lost that sweet NRA cash before Christmas.
Dan Bongino Out at NRATV
Trump loves the guy. But the gun rights group is downsizing its media operation and his show appears to be a casualty of those plans.
Lachlan Markay 12.10.18 4:16 PM ET

The National Rifle Association’s media arm has dropped pro-Trump firebrand Dan Bongino from its lineup of conservative commentators, two sources with knowledge of the decision told The Daily Beast. Bongino’s stand-alone show, “We Stand,” had started only last year.

An NRA spokesman did not respond to a request for comment. Bongino initially did not respond to numerous inquiries, but after publication he tweeted that news of his show’s demise was “fake news,” and promised to elaborate on his podcast.

He subsequently confirmed that “We Stand” is, in fact, ending, but suggested that the decision not to renew the show was his, not the network’s—a characterization questioned by one source familiar with the organization’s decision.

Of course, he lost bigly.
Florida congressional candidate goes on tirade against reporter
By POLITICO FLORIDA STAFF
08/22/2016 05:25 AM EDT

Former Secret Service agent and congressional candidate Dan Bongino went on a screaming, profanity-laced tirade Sunday during a telephone call with a POLITICO Florida reporter who asked him to clarify his criticism of a story published by the Naples Daily News.

The dispute began on Twitter early in the day when Bongino bashed the Naples Daily News for writing “propaganda.” Asked by POLITICO reporter Marc Caputo about any inaccuracies or errors in the Naples Daily News story concerning Florida’s 19th Congressional District, Bongino didn’t directly answer the question.

The newspaper had reported Sunday that Bongino was "lacking" financial backing from the district, noting that only 6 percent of itemized donations came from Collier and Lee counties. Citing Federal Election Commission records, it also reported that he raised "a disproportionate amount of his money from donations of less than $200."

Bongino asked Caputo to call him and, after a long back and forth of exchanges on Twitter, he gave his telephone number after being told the conversation would be recorded. Bongino later hung up after losing his temper and shouting “shut the fuck up! … Go fuck yourself, you piece of shit!”

By the way, the SOTU isn't on until there's a formal invitation from both houses of Congress. That hasn't happened yet. Nancy can say talk to the hand, Donald. Hope to see you and Melania at the Women's March this weekend! :-
