Gallup
Approval of Trump Transition Still Low as Inauguration Nears

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- In Gallup polling conducted two weeks before Inauguration Day, President-elect Donald Trump continues to garner historically low approval for his transition performance, with 51% of Americans disapproving of how he is handling the presidential transition and 44% approving. Last month, the public was split on this question, with 48% approving and 48% disapproving.

Trump's 48% transition approval rating in December was already the lowest for any presidential transition Gallup has measured, starting with Bill Clinton's in 1992-1993. Trump's current rating only further separates him from his predecessors -- particularly Barack Obama, who earned 83% approval for his handling of the transition process in January 2009, up from 75% in mid-December 2008.

Republicans' rating of Trump's transition has remained positive, with 87% approving in the Jan. 4-8 poll, similar to the 86% recorded last month. Very few Democrats approve, which has also been fairly steady, at 13% this month versus 17% in December. Meanwhile, his transition approval among independents has fallen from 46% to 33%.

The last president before Trump to win the election despite losing the national popular vote was George W. Bush in 2000. However, while Bush's transition scores were lower than those of both his predecessor (Clinton) and his successor (Obama), his 61% approval rating in mid-January 2001 was nowhere near as low as Trump's is today.

In a dive and can't pull up... there will be no survivors.
According to Quinnipiac University, Trump has an unfavorable rating of 51% and unfavorable rating of 37%. The president-elect's favorability ratings are down seven points over the last 30 days.
Edited: so much for quotes... favorable should be rating 37% according to my math

This must have been lost in the recent site troubles.

Quinnipiac
January 10, 2017 - U.S. Voters Approve Of Obama, Disapprove Of Trump, Quinnipiac University National Poll Finds; Trump Should Stop Tweeting, Voters Say 2-1

American voters approve 55 - 39 percent of the job President Barack Obama is doing, his best approval rating in seven years, according to a Quinnipiac University national poll released today. These same voters disapprove 51 - 37 percent of the way Donald Trump is handling his job as president-elect.

Donald Trump will be a worse president than Barack Obama, 45 percent of voters say, while 34 percent say he will be a better president and 15 percent say he will be about the same, American voters tell the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University Poll.

Americans are optimistic 52 - 43 percent about the next four years with Trump as president and say 47 - 31 percent that he will help rather than hurt the nation's economy.

Trump will be a "great" president, 12 percent of voters say; 30 percent say he will be a "good" president; 20 percent say he will be "not so good" and 32 percent say he will be "bad." ...

American voters, especially young voters, say 64 - 32 percent that Trump should close his personal Twitter account. Republicans say 49 - 45 percent Trump should keep his Twitter account. Voters in every other party, gender, age and racial group say close the account. Voters 18 to 34 years old say 71 - 26 percent that Trump should close the Twitter account, higher than any other age group.

The Hill
Trump: Approval polls are rigged against me

President-elect Donald Trump on Tuesday tweeted that approval rating polls are rigged against him, as a series of polls show him with historically low approval as he enters office.

“The same people who did the phony election polls, and were so wrong, are now doing approval rating polls. They are rigged just like before,” Trump wrote.

A CNN/ORC poll released Tuesday morning showed Trump with 40 percent approval — six points lower than it was after Election Day, and lower than the last three presidents.

More than half of respondents said they are less confident in Trump’s ability to do the job of president due to his statements since becoming president-elect.

An ABC News/Washington Post poll also released Tuesday found just 40 percent respondents approved of how Trump has handled his presidential transition, and 54 percent viewed him unfavorable.

Monmouth University
Uncertain Expectations for Pres. Trump

West Long Branch, NJ - As Barack Obama exits the White House with solid job approval ratings, Donald Trump enters with a much more mixed set of expectations. This is particularly true when it comes to helping middle class Americans who are not expected to do as well as the already rich and powerful. The latest national Monmouth University Poll also finds the public is split on whether the new administration will be too friendly toward Russia.

Obama leaves office with a 56% approve and 38% disapprove job rating, which is in line with where his rating has stood since August. Prior to last summer, Obama's second term job approval tended to hover in the low to mid 40s.

Trump takes the presidential oath this week with just 34% of Americans holding a favorable view of him and 46% having an unfavorable opinion. Another 20% are withholding judgment for now. The public is divided on Trump's relationship with Russia. Just under half - 48% are concerned that he will be too friendly toward that country. An identical 48% of Americans, on the other hand, are not concerned about this. This is little changed from when Russian links to the DNC hacking were first raised during the campaign. Back in August, 45% of voters were concerned about Trump's attitude toward Russia and 49% were not.

LA Times
Analysis Donald Trump's transition has hurt his popularity, not helped

Donald Trump’s transition to the presidency has seen his popularity decline, not expand, and he will enter the White House on Friday far weaker in that regard than any president in decades.

Trump is unique among the last seven presidents-elect: He is the only one whose popularity dropped between election day and his swearing-in, according to several new polls.

In surveys released Tuesday, Trump’s popularity was half that of President Obama’s as he was sworn in in 2009, and far below even that of George W. Bush, who took office in 2001 after a Supreme Court battle that ended with a partisan split on the high court just weeks before Inauguration Day. ...

All of the previous presidents except Reagan saw double-digit jumps between the percentage of Americans who voted for them in November and the percentage with a positive view of them just before they were sworn in. In Reagan’s case, the increase was 7 points.

Trump, however, has fallen somewhat from the 46% of the electorate that he won two months ago. His standing as he starts his presidency, according to the Post/ABC poll, is slightly lower than the worst ratings ever given to Obama — 42% at two rocky points in his presidency.

CNN
Obama approval hits 60% as end of term approaches

Washington (CNN)President Barack Obama will leave office Friday with his highest approval rating since 2009, his presidency largely viewed as a success, and a majority saying they will miss him when he is gone.

A new CNN/ORC poll finds Obama's approval rating stands at 60%, his best mark since June of his first year in office. Compared with other outgoing presidents, Obama lands near the top of the list, outranked only by Bill Clinton's 66% in January 2001 and Ronald Reagan's 64% in January 1989. About two-thirds (65%) say Obama's presidency was a success, including about half (49%) who say that was due to Obama's personal strengths rather than circumstances outside his control.

Amid those glowing reviews, one-quarter of Americans (25%) say Obama is one of the nation's greatest presidents, far outpacing the share who felt that way about other recent presidents as their terms ended (11% described Reagan that way, 10% Clinton, and 5% or fewer said so about either President Bush). Still, nearly as many (23%) call Obama a poor president, more than said so about Reagan, Clinton or the first president Bush, but well below the 46% who said George W. Bush was a poor president as he prepared to leave the White House.

Politico
Poll: Trump’s opening weekend gets lowest approval of modern era ...

Trump’s approval rating in the Gallup survey, conducted last Friday through Sunday, opens at 45 percent — the same percentage of Americans that said they disapprove of Trump’s first weekend on the job.

In fact, Trump is beginning his presidency with the lowest initial approval rating in the modern polling era, according to Gallup.

But while Trump’s first approval rating is improved from the poor reviews Americans gave to his presidential transition, it is also lower than previous presidents — a sign Trump has entered the White House without the same support from Americans that others have enjoyed. Barack Obama’s opening approval rating in January 2009 was 67 percent, George W. Bush’s was 57 percent in 2001, Bill Clinton’s was 58 percent in 1993, George H.W. Bush’s was 51 percent in 1989 and Ronald Reagan’s was also 51 percent in 1981.

Jimmy Carter’s first approval rating in 1977 was 66 percent, Richard Nixon’s was 59 percent in 1969, John Kennedy began his presidency in 1961 with a 72-percent approval rating and Dwight Eisenhower’s first approval rating in 1953 was 68 percent.

Trump’s initial approval rating is also lower than the scores for Gerald Ford (71 percent) and Lyndon Johnson (78 percent), who entered the Oval Office following – respectively – the resignation and assassination of their predecessors.

Fortune
Donald Trump Has a Much Higher Approval Rating in Russia Than He Does in America, State Pollster Says

More than 70 % of Russians expect good things from Donald Trump's presidency, according to a new poll.

Approximately 40 % of those surveyed by state pollster VTsIOM had high expectations of the new U.S. president and another 31% believe that Trump would at least be an "average" U.S. leader. But when asked if Russia should reduce its nuclear stockpile in exchange for cancelled U.S. sanctions, as previously suggested by Trump, 55 % of those polled responded negatively, the Moscow Times reports.

Among Americans, Trump's approval ratings have hit a record low, with 45% approving of Trump and 45% disapproving of him, according to Gallup.
