Ben and Jerry want a new flavor in Congress — and they’ll be fighting for it by the pint.
The famous co-founders of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, joined by MoveOn.org, announced a contest on Friday to raise awareness for seven Democratic House challengers in districts ranging from the most competitive battlegrounds to long-shot Democratic targets like GOP Rep. Steve King's seat in Iowa.
The effort — called Ben and Jerry (the people, not the corporation) Take Back Congress, Flavor by Flavor — asks voters to invent ice cream names and flavors inspired by the seven Democratic candidates. Then, Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, who spearheaded a similar effort for Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders in 2016, will make a limited, homemade batch of each flavor and raffle off the pints to supporters. MoveOn.org will also send fundraising pitches for each of the candidates as part of the contest.

Take Back Congress, Flavor by Flavor!
Nothing is so unstoppable as a flavor whose time has finally come.
Hi, we’re Ben and Jerry, the co-founders of Ben & Jerry’s. We’re teaming up with MoveOn to help 7 of the best progressive candidates running for Congress. We need a Democratic majority to check President Trump’s unrestrained power. And we also need to send progressive champions to Congress who will fix our health care system with Medicare for All, protect clean air and water, and get big money out of politics.
But we need your help! We need to come up with seven amazing ice cream flavors (and flavor names) that not only taste great but also capture the essence of what each candidate stands for. That’s a tall order, but we know that between all of us we can make it happen. We’ll select the winner and make a batch of each flavor that we’ll raffle off to support the candidates.
This site is run in collaboration among MoveOn, Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield. It is not associated with Ben & Jerry’s Homemade, Inc.
Seven winners will receive the following prize package: 1 pint of their own Ben’s Best Ice Cream pint, personally made by Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield.
I know Arpaio is a poor public speaker, but not that bad!Former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, porn star Ron Jeremy and Fox News personality Tucker Carlson spoke at a political rally Monday for a well-known Nevada brothel owner who died hours later in his sleep.
Were they parting gifts for Zullo? "People are saying .... "Former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio is speaking out, as the incumbent county sheriff announced that 29 weapons with the department have gone missing, with two of them turning up in the wrong hands.
In a news conference on Wednesday, Sheriff Penzone said the two weapons were found, following a deadly shooting on I-17 on Monday involving 27-year-old Arnaldo Caraveo. The incident began in Mesa, and ended up involving multiple law enforcement agencies. Caraveo died following the incident.
The weapons were reportedly Federal surplus firearms that were handed out to local law enforcement, but it is not clear at this point as to how the guns went missing.
Sheriff Penzone said Caraveo was using a gun that went missing from MCSO, since between 2010 and 2015, when Arpaio was Sheriff. Arpaio, meanwhile, said this is an issue for Sheriff Penzone.
"What do I have to do with it?" said Arpaio, in a phone interview. "I mean, a lot of things happened after I left. I mean, he is the sheriff. It is his responsibility to do something, if it happened. It happened, not who caused that to happen. The story is what he is doing about it."

"I'm not going to talk about him," said Arpaio. "What he said about me, other than the fact that is his comment, I will not get into a fight with him. OK? Not that I can't handle it, believe me."
Some Republicans fear Trump’s immigration focus before election may backfire
Cop killer in Trump video was released by Sheriff Joe: A video ad tweeted by President Donald Trump is incorrect in suggesting that Democrats are solely responsible for an immigrant cop killer’s presence in the U.S., according to reports from the Sacramento Bee and other media outlets.
Records in Arizona show Luis Bracamontes was arrested on drug charges in Phoenix in 1998, but released for reasons unknown by the office of Sheriff Joe Arpaio, the former Republican law enforcement official for Maricopa County who has styled himself as “America’s Toughest Sheriff.” Arpaio was pardoned by Trump.
Arpaio should stick to the things he knows something at least minimally about, which is admittedly a pretty limited repertoire, but he really had best stick to what he knows, and ice cream might in fact be a bit of a stretch.
