Yep, WV had 2,005,552 residents in 1950 and 1,792,147 in 2019. This is mostly due to a declining economy.

That goes a long way to explaining why WV is so white (93%) and has so many resident over 65 (16%, only FL has a higher percentage). Young workers and post WW II immigrants were not attracted to WV where job opportunities were few.

The last time I checked, WV taxed Social Security and seemed to have a relatively high income tax rate on those who I would consider as having a middle class income. This was several years ago when I was looking for a retirement home. I crossed WV off my list. Sure, recreation in nice, but how about improving the education system and getting the "I wanna be a coal miner" fantasy off Junior's mind?

WV is a beautiful, mountainous state, but they have destroyed a lot of it. They hide their missing mountains away from sight, but there are huge swaths of the state that are absolutely devastated.

Yeah, ya know what's disturbing?

The similarity between Suranis and Matt Yglesia's avatar on the Twitter machine, that's what's disturbing. Check out @mattyglesias.

Yes, and yet extensive research has found no evidence of them ever being in the same room at the same time. Just sayin...

Suranis is better looking to femalians, or certainly should be. Still, the similarity is there. :smoking:

I was chuckling as I remembered a phrase my husband used years ago: He was used like a rented mule.

My husband's 41-year old nephew came up from Iowa to help me yesterday. Saturday is our city's curbside pickup day in which you can put out old appliances, furniture, carpets, etc. for the city to pick up. The fun part is to put out stuff a couple days early and watch the dumpster divers prowling the neighborhoods, looking for stuff they can use. It's a whole lot better if they can use these things than for the stuff to go to a landfill. Anyway, I can't believe all the stuff my nephew helped me with! Old end tables from my mom's house, metal shelving, packing crates, an exercise bike from the basement, two old bikes (one from the rafters of the garage where my sweetie had put it years ago), a computer stand, old dresser, three old lawnmowers, etc. A day later and much of what we put out has been taken. Oh, and he helped me take an old portable TV and a 19" CRT monitor to the recycling center. I looked it up - that 19" monitor weighed 56 pounds!

So you can see why that phrase came to mind. Well, I did buy lunch and he always goes home with stuff I can't use but he'll love. I swear my husband bought every tool Sears sold. This trip my nephew went home with a Sears Craftsman socket extension set. And a few other things.

Thank God for nephews. Oh, and he helped me get my summer tires to the dealership so they swapped out my winter tires yesterday so now I can go down to Iowa and visit his mom. Yay.

Now that the insurrection has lost its Witsec virginity with Jon Schaffer, maybe a poll to see who the next one to go into witness protection (or even a witness protection bingo card)?

My long shot choice is Mark Meadows. He's got the most to gain and the least to lose at this point of the inner circle.

I'm laughing a bit. I remember when I first bought actual winter/snow tires. Night and day difference. Those tires they call "all season" um, aren't. LOL

I remember our first Blizzak tires. A person is so much safer up here with good winter tires!

That same nephew had helped me get the winter tires to the dealership in Dec 2019 to be installed. When spring 2020 came I would have had to figure out how to work with the dealer to get my car and summer tires to the dealership to switch out for the summer. I decided I wasn’t driving anywhere during the pandemic, so left the winter tires on all of 2020. Getting the summer tires installed now is part celebration of a true pandemic spring occurring. Life is returning to normal. I can now drive down on a warm summer day to visit my sister-in-law in Iowa.

So...while I wait to hear from the insurance company that they're going to total my car and how much $$$ they're going to give me towards buying a new one, I decided to take the name of the driver that hit me and go on popping money for another vehicle, I decided to take the incident brief sheet the police guys gave me and search my pal's name on Washington Courts. Granted, they only give summaries that are mostly over my head, and while I admit there might be another J**** M (middle initial) in King County, I did find the most recent entry was in K*** Municipal Court listing her as a defendant two days after she hit me. But...OMG, she's been defendant in so many municipal courts I can't even count them all. Some superior court cases too, all going back ten plus years.

I can't even...
