Why peeled before eating? I like the skins. Supposedly lots of nutritional value thrown in the trash.

Potatoes have a high glycemic index. They are very very bad. In fact, the only good part is what you throw away, because you won't have eaten it.

Ohio police cautions about 'highly addictive substance': Girl Scout cookies

https://www.wthr.com/article/ohio-polic ... ut-cookies
We wanted to make our community aware of a highly addictive substance that is about to hit the streets. These items go by a variety of names like “Thin Mints”, “S’mores” and “Lemonades” just to name a few. These items are distributed by strong, smart, fearless young women who will lure you in with their story and get you hooked. We know many people think I will just get one box. But one turns into two and two turns into five and the next thing you know you are hiding “Thin Mints” in the freezer.

We want you to know we are here for you. We have set up a disposal
location for these “cookies” at the police department. Just drop them off 24/7 and we will properly dispose of them for you. 😉👮‍♀️ 🍪 #girlscoutsareawesome #copslovecookies

Johnson plans to move House of Lords to York - Sunday Times

https://www.reuters.com/article/uk-brit ... ce=twitter
Prime Minister Boris Johnson is planning to relocate parliament’s upper house, the House of Lords, to the northern English city of York, the Sunday Times reported.

In last month’s national election for the lower house, Johnson’s Conservatives won a swathe of seats in the traditional Northern English heartland of the opposition Labour Party as he secured a large majority in parliament.

With a view to securing these gains, Johnson has promised to ramp up investment in the north of England, which suffered under the decline of heavy industries and austerity policies since the financial crisis, the Sunday Times said, without citing sources.

York, founded by the Romans and famed for its large minster, is first choice for the move, ahead of Birmingham, Britain’s second-largest city.

Apart from politics, iirc there is a problem for temporary(!) moving the parliament functions due to pending (overduw?) planned renovations.

Gosh, do people really mispronounce phthisis that badly? I've always pronounced as if it were Greek Φθίσις, f-th-i-sis, not necessarily stressed correctly. But I see Merriam-Webster gives ˈthī-səs with tī- as an option instead of thī-.

It's a shame to mangle such words.

UK farmers despair as sheep thefts soar

https://www.theguardian.com/environment ... 1580646965
“Then I sensed that something wasn’t quite right,” said Candy, whose family have farmed in the area for five generations. “I did a rough count and it became clear many of them had gone.”

It turned out that 72 ewes had been taken in the night. Candy was amazed. “At night sheep are glued to the spot they are in,” he said. “They don’t like to move. To get those sheep out of there at night they must have had exceptionally trained dogs and very good stockmanship.”

Candy’s loss is not an isolated one. Figures released this week by the rural insurer NFU Mutual reveal that farm animals worth £3m were stolen from UK farms in 2019.

Large-scale sheep thefts in particular are on the rise, making rustling the most costly crime for Britain’s farmers after agricultural vehicle and machinery theft, according to the insurer.

Truck carrying toilet paper catches fire, shuts down North Texas interstate
The crash and fire happened a few miles southeast of Dallas early Wednesday morning.

https://www.khou.com/article/traffic/tr ... 40af354e05
A tractor-trailer carrying toilet paper caught fire overnight in Hutchins, according to local officials.

The driver of the truck is OK, authorities told WFAA.

The fire shut down all lanes of westbound Interstate 20 around 4:15 a.m. near Interstate 45 in Hutchins, according to the Texas Department of Transportation.

The toilet paper, which appeared to be large rolls typical of commercial use, was scattered across the roadway. TxDOT officials said the tractor-trailer and the load of toilet paper "burned extensively," estimating it would take authorities "some time" to clean up.
