AW ought to cut himself a deal.
He burned that bridge when threatened to prosecutors wife and kids.

Thanks for those, wow, so many filings. This was interesting... they don't want him to testify unless its in the form of Q&As.

I missed that part. Did he actually do that, or did he just file some offensively worded brief asking for their info?

It’s up one page. If you wanna split hairs all he said was that he knew where the prosecutors wife and kids live, but I’m calling that a threat.

A wise course, otherwise he will do just what he does in his filings, and the part about confusing the jury will be intentional. He truly is his own worst enemy.

New this week on ATW:
  • ATW appeals against the gov's refusal to provide an unmonitored phone so he can [strike]harass[/strike] [strike]coach[/strike] "communicate with his witnesses prior to trial"
  • ATW tries to propose bullshit jury instructions (including including something considered jury nullification).
  • Lars Isaacson tries for a fourth time to withdraw

IANAL, but the suspicion I have is that the conflict is that Lars knows that Anthony will commit perjury when he is on the stand.

What are the options here? Delay the trial?

The decision to whether to testify belongs to the defendant -- and not the attorney.

To prevent gaming the system/engineering endless delays, the solution often is a dance where the defendant takes the stand but the attorney doesn't ask any questions. The defendant just gives a narrative of ... whatever (subject to the opposition's objections and cross-examination).

This way, the defendant's right to testify was honored, the attorney didn't suborn perjury, and no delay/tactical advantage was gained.

I agree, but in this case the prosecution submitted a motion in Limine to prevent AW from giving a narrative and only doing a question/answer statement. I can't see the judge disagreeing with that given all that AW has done to date.

The question I have is if Lars gets his request and is removed as his standby lawyer. Technically AW could go to court by himself since he has always been pro se. What happens if that occurs and then AW starts doing his thing (ignoring the orders of the judge since he considers them null and void)? The court would not have another attorney to fall back on. What happens then?

The only way out i see is to either make Lars continue (and that would make for a very interesting trial) or let him drop and assign AW a new lawyer, but that would result in a long delay in the trial for a new lawyer to come up to speed. Not that AW is going anywhere...

There are competing interests at play, and the judge will have to make some tough calls on which interests to honor the most.

My WAG would be to keep standby counsel and permit a narrative. (In-custody defendants tend to be against delay, but maybe Williams doesn't care, for various reasons.)

I think it is pretty much a given that ATW will lie when on the stand. He just can't help himself. It just won't not happen. I also can't help but think that letting him logorrhea on the stand is nothing but a recipe for disaster.

Well Lars' request to exit the case and AW's request to delay the trial were both denied. Here is the current trial schedule:

Jury Selection will begin on Monday 2/3/2020 at 9:00 AM
Trial Days: Government 11 days
Defense 10 days
12 Jurors and 2 Alternates

Time allowed for opening statements:
Government - 40 Minutes
Defense - 40 Minutes
Bench conferences will be taken up during recess.
Trial hours beginning from second day of trial: 8:30 am - 2:00 pm.

AW's request for 25 days to present his defense didn't fly. Also, two of AW's defense witnesses have asked to have their subpoenas squashed...

I can't wait until the trial transcripts become available... :daydream:

Too bad you can't take bets on the following:
1) How many hours into the trial before AW loses his per se status and Lars has to take over
2) How many times the Jury has to leave the courtroom to deal with AW's actions
3) How long before AW is forced to watch the trial from another room

Too bad you can't take bets on the following:
1) How many hours into the trial before AW loses his per se status and Lars has to take over Depends on how lenient the court is
2) How many times the Jury has to leave the courtroom to deal with AW's actions A lot at least initially.
3) How long before AW is forced to watch the trial from another room If he makes it through the first few days I 'll be surprised.
I have to say I do feel sorry for Lars, this can't have been fun.

I really think they are going to need more than two alternates.

ATW's attorney's motion to withdraw is denied

Government wants to exclude ATW's "expert" witnesses
ATW hasn't filed a response regarding his interlocutory motion to allow On Second Thought to videotape his trial

846 - WITNESS LIST by Anthony T. Williams. (Attachments: # 1 Certificate of Service) (Isaacson, Lars) (Entered: 01/31/2020)
Rudy and Ronnie Davis? I can't think of any rational purpose their testimony might serve but it would make for an amusing afternoon for the jury.

I see ATW's mother isn't on the government's witness list but Anabel Cabebe is.

From the PAG's expert witness list.
Witness
Michael P. Brannon

Basis for testimony.
“Dr. Bannan is expected to give testimony as to his
evaluation of Mr. Williams and his opinion as to Mr.
Williams’ intelligence”

Finally all caught up on this thread so a little late to the party. For anybody who doesn't occasionally listen in on poor Rudy's calls ATW seems to be under the mistaken impression that he can use the witness list to essentially bribe witnesses for the defense with a tax payer funded vacation to HI; regardless of any relevance their testimony may have. Oddly it seems hes reached the bottom of even Rudy's gullibility as he seems to he doubting that outcome, but not his (possibly mentally deficient) wife. My favorite filing so far was ATW demanding the govt admit to 9/11. I can just picture it: "How can you accuse me of anything? YOU DID 9/11!"

*Prosecutor blinks in disbelief* "I'm sorry?"

*ATW smugly crossing arms and declaring victory* "As well you should be SIR!"
