Texas Man Who Boasted About Being at Capitol Riot Plotted to Blow Up Amazon Data Centers: Feds

A Texas man who boasted about being at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 has been charged for plotting to bomb data centers in Virginia in hopes of destroying “about 70% of the internet,” federal prosecutors said Friday. The feds were first tipped off to Seth Aaron Pendley’s alleged plans when a “concerned citizen” reached out about disturbing posts on MyMilitia.com in which a user named “Dionysus” said he was going to “conduct a little experiment” that he hoped would lead to “death.” That user was ultimately traced to Pendley, who allegedly told friends in January that he didn’t break into the Capitol during the insurrection but did take a piece of broken glass from a “platform” and “interacted with police” that day.

In late March, Pendley told an undercover FBI employee posing as an explosives supplier that he intended to blow up Amazon servers that “he believed provided services to the FBI, CIA, and other federal agencies.” His ultimate goal was to destroy “the oligarchy” in power, the feds said. On April 8, Pendley picked up the explosives, which were actually fake, and was arrested.

This moron obviously doesn't know how the internet works.

There is no central location that controls the internet. When DARPA created ARPANET in 1969, and created TCP/IP, the network protocol used by the internet, the primary design requirement was a self-healing, or re-routing network. The idea was that, if the USSR took out, say Chicago, network traffic from Boston to LA, which might normally be routed through the windy city, would automatically be routed through those portions of the network that remained in place.

This happens even today. Pick an internet site as far away from you as you can think of and open a command prompt window on your PC. Enter "tracert www.microsoft.com". Check the list of nodes that the packet went through. Even if you're in LA, the packets may go via Atlanta before arriving at Redmond. Wait ten minutes and do the same command again. The route will probably not be the same.

:yeahthat:

Also, while a lot of the web runs on Amazon Web Services (AWS), taking out one amazon datacenter doesn't necessarily take down the things running on AWS - because most are set up multi-site.

This is actually one of the reasons to move to clout hosting.. multi-site doesn't come for free, but comes pretty easy.

Too also, the FBI and CIA are using AWS for essential services, not to mention, classified material?

The point was not that this guy was going to destroy the internet it is that he is now a terrorist seeking C4 explosives to cause death. The radicalization of these unstable people is terrifying and extremely dangerous.

Yes, he is a terrorist who wanted to blow up a facility (and kill a bunch of people) he thought would bring down a bunch of the government. The kid's lack of smarts on how to do that won't matter in the long run. The attempt to get explosives to do that is the crime.

That being said, I am thinking he is not the most brilliant terrorist, which is lucky for all. Besides being caught, I have a hunch that he was actually targeting the AWS office buildings and not the data centers. While the area from Reston to Dulles is filled with data centers, many are not marked or have some other company (who could actually be a vendor for AWS or a subsidiary to hide the ownership for security purposes). In addition, they have higher security which makes getting close enough much more difficult. Good security would also make sure he would not notice the weak spots for highly critical items because a security plan would make sure to direct potential threats away from them (much like how Vegas designs casinos to direct users to the games that benefit the house more).

Now, if he were targeting the AWS offices and not a data center that would be even more frightening. They probably have way more staff on-site and are easier to get close to.

(CNN)Members of the Oath Keepers paramilitary group likely stored weapons at a hotel in Arlington, Virginia, as part of their plan to have an armed rapid-response force during the January 6 insurrection, federal prosecutors said.

The new details flesh out previous accusations from prosecutors that members of the Oath Keepers assembled a "quick reaction force," or QRF, in Virginia that could deploy into the nation's capital if needed. For the first time, prosecutors have revealed photos of an alleged Oath Keeper carrying what looks like a weapon inside the hotel where the QRF was stored -- the Comfort Inn in Arlington, Virginia.

Prosecutors said Kenneth Harrelson, who has been charged in the Oath Keepers conspiracy, "likely contributed" weapons and brought "what appears to be at least one rifle case" into the hotel. Harrelson is one of 12 defendants in the case, the most prominent case tied to the insurrection.

WASHINGTON — The Capitol Police had clearer advance warnings about the Jan. 6 attack than were previously known, including the potential for violence in which “Congress itself is the target.” But officers were instructed by their leaders not to use their most aggressive tactics to hold off the mob, according to a scathing new report by the agency’s internal investigator.

In a 104-page report, the inspector general, Michael A. Bolton, criticized the way the Capitol Police prepared for and responded to the mob violence on Jan. 6. The report was reviewed by The New York Times and will be the subject of a Capitol Hill hearing on Thursday.

Mr. Bolton found that the agency’s leaders failed to adequately prepare despite explicit warnings that pro-Trump extremists posed a threat to law enforcement and civilians and that the police used defective protective equipment. He also found that the leaders ordered their Civil Disturbance Unit to refrain from using its most powerful crowd-control tools — like stun grenades — to put down the onslaught.

Maybe. With all the “Hey, Boomer” crap, however, it gets missed how many Oath Keepers, Proud Boys, Boogs, and other anti-American degenerates are under 50 or even 40.

Department of Justice Closes Investigation into the Death of Ashli Babbitt

https://www.justice.gov/usao-dc/pr/depa ... li-babbitt
WASHINGTON – The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia and the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice will not pursue criminal charges against the U.S. Capitol Police officer involved in the fatal shooting of 35-year-old Ashli Babbitt, the Office announced today.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia’s Public Corruption and Civil Rights Section and the Civil Rights Division, with the Metropolitan Police Department’s Internal Affairs Division (IAD), conducted a thorough investigation of Ms. Babbitt’s shooting. Officials examined video footage posted on social media, statements from the officer involved and other officers and witnesses to the events, physical evidence from the scene of the shooting, and the results of an autopsy. Based on that investigation, officials determined that there is insufficient evidence to support a criminal prosecution. Officials from IAD informed a representative of Ms. Babbitt’s family today of this determination.

The investigation determined that, on January 6, 2021, Ms. Babbitt joined a crowd of people that gathered on the U.S. Capitol grounds to protest the results of the 2020 presidential election. Inside the Capitol building, a Joint Session of Congress, convened to certify the results of the Electoral College vote, was underway. Members of the crowd outside the building, which was closed to the public during the Joint Session, eventually forced their way into the Capitol building and past U.S. Capitol Police (USCP) officers attempting to maintain order. The Joint Session was stopped, and the USCP began evacuating members of Congress.

The investigation further determined that Ms. Babbitt was among a mob of people that entered the Capitol building and gained access to a hallway outside “Speaker’s Lobby,” which leads to the Chamber of the U.S. House of Representatives. At the time, the USCP was evacuating Members from the Chamber, which the mob was trying to enter from multiple doorways. USCP officers used furniture to barricade a set of glass doors separating the hallway and Speaker’s Lobby to try and stop the mob from entering the Speaker’s Lobby and the Chamber, and three officers positioned themselves between the doors and the mob. Members of the mob attempted to break through the doors by striking them and breaking the glass with their hands, flagpoles, helmets, and other objects. Eventually, the three USCP officers positioned outside the doors were forced to evacuate. As members of the mob continued to strike the glass doors, Ms. Babbitt attempted to climb through one of the doors where glass was broken out. An officer inside the Speaker’s Lobby fired one round from his service pistol, striking Ms. Babbitt in the left shoulder, causing her to fall back from the doorway and onto the floor. A USCP emergency response team, which had begun making its way into the hallway to try and subdue the mob, administered aid to Ms. Babbitt, who was transported to Washington Hospital Center, where she succumbed to her injuries.

There’s a guy in Nextdoor here who loves to take libs on. He’s still spouting bs from years ago (“you gotta get out of your mom’s basement more often”) and is -surprise-generally obnoxious to everyone. I don’t engage.

Yesterday he was going on about “Ashley” Babbit’s “murder”. I have a feeling I know what he’ll say about this news. (Well, of course they did. They protect their own. Coverup!)

American Insurrection

Over the last three years, FRONTLINE has collaborated with ProPublica to investigate the rise of extremism in America. In the aftermath of the Jan. 6 assault on the U.S. Capitol, FRONTLINE, ProPublica and Berkeley Journalism’s Investigative Reporting Program team up to examine how far-right extremist groups have evolved in the wake of the deadly 2017 Charlottesville rally — and the threat they pose today.

The film ends after the assault on the Capitol. You'll recognize some of the proud boys, boogaloos, etc.

Here's a hell of a filing denying pretrial release for Capitol Riots insurrectionist Jeffrey Sabol. He planned to flee to Switzerland and "fried" his electronics in his microwave oven. For all the RWNJs & DL2XIT saying there was no danger, it was no big deal, read this horrifying account of dragging police down the Capitol steps to the mob. The revisionist history is disgusting.

This South Florida guy, Christopher Worrell who is a (really old and heavyset) Proud Boy, was with his lady, Trish Priller, an executive assistant at the Naples Daily News (!).

East Naples arrest could have connection to Capitol Riots and Proud Boys. Here's what we know
Naples Daily News March 16, 2021

More arrests have been made in connection to the January 6, Capitol Hill riots. FBI agents arrested Christopher Worrell, of East Naples, Friday morning. Government documents leading to his arrest linked him to violence at the U.S. Capitol and claim he is a member of the far-right group, the Proud Boys. Worrell, 49, was arrested after FBI agents executed a search and arrest warrant by 6 a.m. in the 200 block of Stanhope Circle, according to the FBI. In a statement of facts filed in court by an unidentified FBI officer who is assigned to the Fort Myers Resident Agency of the Tampa Field Office, the officer outlines his probable cause to charge Worrell in a Jan. 6 incident in Washington, D.C. Here's what we know:

The arrest
Christopher Worrell, 49, was arrested early Friday morning in the 200 block of Stanhope Circle in East Naples after FBI agents executed a search and arrest warrant. According to county records, the home is owned by Trish Priller, an executive assistant at the Naples Daily News. Worrell’s Facebook page says he and Priller are in a relationship. Agents from the FBI and deputies from the Collier County Sheriff’s Office were at the house collecting evidence following the arrest. Boxes of electronic equipment were also removed from the property.

The charges
A statement of facts filed in court by an FBI officer working out of the Fort Myers Resident Agency of the Tampa Field Office outlines the probable cause to charge Worrell in the January 6 incident. According to the unidentified officer, Worrell violated multiple laws, including:

entering or remaining in a restricted building or grounds without lawful authority
knowingly and with intent to impede or disrupt the orderly conduct of Government business
knowingly engaged in any act of physical violence against a person or property in any restricted building or grounds
used or carried a deadly or dangerous weapon in relation to his violations
willfully and knowingly uttered loud, threatening or abusive language, or engaged in disorderly conduct at any place in the grounds or in any Capitol Buildings with the intent to impede, disrupt or disturb the session of Congress or either House of Congress
Not finished yet:Two months and nearly 300 Capitol riot arrests later, FBI is hunting hundreds more

Who tipped off authorities
On Jan. 13, a tipster contacted the FBI to report that they believed Worrell traveled to the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, and potentially participated in the riot. The details are included in the FBI statement of facts a federal magistrate signed March 10. The tipster said they are an acquaintance of Worrell's live-in girlfriend. The tipster also told the FBI that they had seen a video on Worrell's Facebook page that showed him participating in the riots.

Possible 'Proud Boys' affiliation and involvement in the Capitol riots
The tipster said Worrell's girlfriend told them that Worrell is a Proud Boy and that the couple went to Washington, D.C., to be there on Jan. 6, according to the statement of facts. On Jan. 18, the officer interviewed Worrell and asked if he had participated in the U.S. Capitol riots. The report indicated he was agitated that the FBI was at his house, but eventually admitted that he was at the Capitol on Jan. 6. He denied entering the Capitol building and denied criminal conduct on his part. He also was agitated when asked about the Proud Boys, stating, "the Proud Boys were not a racist white supremacist group like the media tries to portray." Worrell was also identified in multiple images and videos showing the events of Jan. 6, and placing him within the restricted area. In those images it shows Worrell with a canister clipped to his vest that appears to match paper spray gel and is later seen in a photo spraying a substance from a canister.

Prior arrest record
In 2009, Worrell was arrested for impersonating an officer after he followed and pulled up to a woman on U.S. 41 East and Guilford Road in East Naples trying to get her to pull over for running a red light, according to his arrest report. He had a loaded handgun, handcuffs, knives, boxes of ammunition and a fake badge in his possession when deputies arrested him. In May 2010, Worrell was sentenced to three years probation and two years of community control for impersonating a law enforcement officer.

Well, Jim Hoft at the Gateway House of Boys (and Pundits) got the story, probably from his new lawyer, who also used to rep Kyle Rittenhouse.
According to court documents, Worrell's attorney Landon Miller was terminated from the case Monday. Miller could not be reached for comment as of Wednesday. In a Saturday night tweet, attorney John Pierce stated that he now represents Worrell and that he will be pleading not guilty to all charges. "It is an honor to represent him. I will have further comment at a later point in time. Authorities are advised to immediately halt all questioning of him without me present," Pierce wrote in the tweet. Pierce, an attorney with Pierce Bainbridge in Los Angeles, had been representing Rittenhouse as well as promoting his case and soliciting money for his defense. He has since parted ways with Rittenhouse, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported on Feb. 4.

EXCLUSIVE: Cancer Patient Arrested Over Capitol Protest Denied Bail Since March 12, Though He Never Entered Building, Catches COVID in Jail — Life Seriously At Risk
By Cassandra Fairbanks
Published April 15, 2021 at 11:08am

The attorney for Capitol protester Christopher Worrell has filed an emergency motion with the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals to seek the release of his client, who has cancer, after he contracted COVID-19 in the jail where he is being detained. Worrell has been held for over a month after firing pepper spray during the chaos on January 6, which he says was aimed at people who he believed to be Antifa that were targeting police. Worrell has been imprisoned and denied bail since March 12 — and has been shipped around from Florida, to Oklahoma, to Virginia, and now finally DC. He has been subjected to horrific conditions including a lack of water for sometimes up to seven hours and contracted COVID on top of his non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma cancer. The proud patriotic American is now severely at risk of dying from COVID or metastasizing cancer advancing while being denied bail.

Worrell was raided after travelling to DC with his girlfriend on January 6 to hear then-President Donald Trump speak and exercise their right to protest the 2020 presidential election. Due to the violence from the left that has been inflicted upon Trump supporters in public since 2016, Worrell wore a protective vest lined with plastic and legally carried a small bottle of pepper spray for protection. Following the Stop the Steal rally, Worrell followed the crowd of thousands of people to Capitol Hill to protest. The situation was peaceful at first, but escalated when people began to push against the police barriers to get into the Capitol building. Worrell never entered the building. In videos he recorded on the scene, Worrell can repeatedly be heard calling for peace. One of the clips from his phone captures him telling an officer that he was “not coming through,” when he accidentally bumped into a barricade trying to back away from the situation.

During the chaos, Worrell saw people that he believed to be Antifa pushing towards the police. He maintains that he discharged his pepper spray towards the people he believed to be leftist agitators, to protect the officers. The government claims that he was trying to spray the police, but have not offered any evidence to back this up. Eventually, they conceded that the government “do[es] not currently know with certainty the target at which Worrell was spraying.” The government has not offered any victim who was harmed or sustained injuries by the pepper spray. When a large portion of the crowd broke through the police line and entered the building, Worrell left.

A warrant was issued for Worrell on March 12 and the FBI raided his home, but he was away on a camping trip. The FBI had his girlfriend call him and direct him to turn himself in. He immediately ended his trip and drove home, calling the FBI every 30 minutes during the ride to check in as instructed. When he got home, he was arrested and his cell phone was seized. Worrell was fully cooperative, even providing the agents with his password. Since then, Worrell has been denied bail while others who actually went inside have been granted it, despite his fragile medical condition. On March 20, Worrell began developing new nodes, lesions, and itchy patches across his body, likely symptoms of his Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. He has not received his cancer treatment or any other medications since his detention on March 12.

When his lawyers expressed their concern to the judge about his treatment on April 6, Chief Judge Howell argued that Worrell’s concerns about COVID are “disingenuous” because there were no photos submitted of him wearing a mask. In an emergency filing on Thursday, Worrell’s lawyer John Pierce argued that the Fifth Amendment protects the right of pretrial detainees to receive adequate medical care and to be free from pre-conviction punishment. Pierce noted that the Due Process Clause mandates release because the pandemic presents a grave harm outweighing the government’s interest in confinement. “This Court should release him immediately, subject to certain conditions.

Confinement of a high-risk cancer patient in a high-risk setting during a pandemic amounts to impermissible pretrial punishment, as it is not reasonably related to the Government’s interest in confinement,” the filing states. Pierce also noted that the government claims that they are holding him to make sure there is a trial and he doesn’t flee — but if he dies, there will be no trial. The filing says that the prosecution’s position boils down to “we want him in custody, dead or alive.” Worrell voluntarily and immediately turned his passport in upon a Florida federal magistrate judge’s order issued on March 12. In addition to the other Constitutional concerns raised in the filing, Pierce noted that the Bail Reform Act shows that Worrell is neither a serious flight risk nor a danger to the community, and the Court should grant at least temporary release until the pandemic ends.

**Those who wish to contribute to his legal defense can send it to his best friend Dave Chester, who has been paying much of his legal fees while he is detained, Worrell’s lawyer confirmed. His CashApp handle is $kazumdgc.
Surprised Jim & Cassandra didn't have a photo of him knitting a sweater while waiting for the cookies he baked to cool. They're slipping. But at least see how they edited the photo to eliminate the pepper spray, tactical vest and Gadsten flag.

Cancer doesn't stop him from rioting in DC, but it does limit his ability to spend time in jail.

Got it. I had no idea cancer was selective like that. Such an insidious disease. :bored:
