I still have not been told if we're staying over or driving back and forth but...

If we don't stay over, ee're 45-60 minutes away, but we could put up 2 singles or 2 couples. Our car won't transport 4 extra, only 2, but just sayin'. :-D

Two nicer historic buildings now great hotels: the Hotel Brexton (19th century neighborhood) and the Admiral Fell Inn (18th century waterfront). Everything except Motel 6 seems to be ~$200/night and some are more like $400. The Lord Baltimore is totally booked for the 21st, which is why I think something's going on that weekend.
I looked too and the cheapest places I found were the Holiday Inn Express and the Sleep Inn. They weren't especially cheap (around $180) and IDK how close either are to where we want to be in Baltimore.

That's OK, we're all sleeping in your shop anyway. I'm just going through the motions.

You know we can get air mattresses for pretty cheap and they're comfy*.

*The extra high ones of course, because if I get down on the floor it's complicated getting back up again.

The accomodations are rough, but... across the street is a shockingly hip little bar called W. C. Harlan's, and the same creative couple who launched it bought the local greasy spoon a long block away and turned it into Clavel, a dedicated Mexican spot they describe as "a mezcaleria and taqueria." These folks are into varieties of Mescal the way single-malt fans are into Scotch.*

I just go for the fish tacos.

(*In Fell's Point, a few blocks from the Admiral Fell Inn, is Birds of a Feather. The couple who own it stock ~120 different single-malt Scotches. Baltimore seems to attract obsessive enthusiasts. 8-) )

USNA Commissioning (Graduation) Week starts on Friday the 20th so that could explain some of the room rates in the area.

Johns Hopkins Spring graduation is May 18. That's all I can find. Lots of small arts events, but nothing major.

I'll probably drive in from Connecticut again. My brother said he's probably in. Yes he still has the beard and dreadlocks.

So? He's more than welcome just the way he is. Both of you are super-smart, and I thought he did great hanging out with a group that all knew each other but he didn't know any of us. That's a tough situation.

He's pretty personable and has always been more extroverted than me. I know he had some good conversations with many at the philly meetup.

So, I have permission from the missus to attend even though I will miss a Portland production of "Annie." Am getting ready to book my flights, but am holding off until we've got confirmation about the hotel. The Monaco looks pretty slick, even if it might be a bit pricey, but I'm game for the expense if that is the chosen venue. Any ideas about what, when and where regarding the actual meetup festivities?

As I recall, Dr. Ken's brother didn't seem to have much of a problem participating in the conversation---some hothead monopolized most of his time.

Maybe if I make it to Baltimore I can figure out his opinion on something...

And I'll know in a few days whether we'll have Saturday dinner entertainment again. :-D

Though announcing now might discourage some from attending. :P

Anyone else planning to get there for sightseeing on Thursday? I've rented a big car, and will be going to Antietam and Harpers Ferry, if anyone (in addition to those that have PM'd) is interested for that day. I'm open to suggestions, as well, if something else is worth seeing, in that direction. Antietam looks very cool, for history nerds.

Any progress on the Baltimore hotel/motel?

Fort McHenry? That's pretty darn historic.
Fell's Point? Lunch at a largely intact 18th-C waterfront?
The national B&O railroad museum?
Maryland Historical Society Museum? Two blocks from the restored Washington Monument?

and that's without even leaving town. Just some ideas. :)
Edit: Also, too, Gettysburg is closer than both Antietam and Harper's Ferry. Of course, those two can be seen in the same outing, so there's that.

Depending on how far the airport is from our hotel, I should be there around 8:30 pm Thursday.

Count us in for a room.

If the entertainment pans out (won't know till next week) they will need one room with 2 beds, queens at least.

These are the closest I could find with reasonable rates. I have requested calls from Comfort Inn and La Quinta. If they don't work out, I'll try Fairfield Inn. Quotes are for 1 room, double occupancy.
