President Donald Trump reportedly owns a stake in a company that produces hydroxychloroquine, the anti-malaria drug he has repeatedly touted as a coronavirus treatment even though his experts say there’s no strong evidence it works.

Trump “has a small personal financial interest” in Sanofi, the French drugmaker that makes Plaquenil, the brand-name version of hydroxychloroquine, The New York Times reported Monday.

In addition, Sanofi’s largest shareholders include a mutual fund company run by major Republican donor Ken Fisher, the paper said. Trump’s three family trusts, as of last year, each had investments in a mutual fund whose largest holding was Sanofi, according to the Times. Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross also had ties to the drugmaker, the Times reported.

Trump’s “assertiveness” in promoting the drug contrary to the recommendation of top health experts “has raised questions about his motives,” the Times noted.

A chorus of Trump supporters with no medical expertise have backed the president’s urging of doctors to treat COVID-19 patients with the drug, including his personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, and Fox News host Sean Hannity.

In the face of warnings from top infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci that the drug’s safety and effectiveness are uncertain in treating COVID-19, Trump has continued to laud its supposed benefits.

“What do you have to lose?” he asked at a press briefing this week urging those sick with the virus to take the drug.

Turns out plenty.

“There could be deaths,” American Medical Association President Dr. Patrice Harris said. “This is a new virus, and so we should not be promoting any medication or drug for any disease that has not been proven and approved by the FDA.”

Generic drugmakers also are gearing up to produce hydroxychloroquine pills. One of those companies was co-founded by Trump golfing buddy Chirag Patel, according to the Times.

There's a paywall, but I was able to read this much:
A spokesman for Boris Johnson said they were confident that the NHS care was the “best possible” and that they would not need Mr Trump’s help

No 10 has turned down President Trump’s offer of an experimental coronavirus treatment for Boris Johnson.

A spokesman for the prime minister said: “We’re confident the prime minister is receiving the best possible care from the National Health Service. Any treatment he receives is a matter for his doctors.”

President Trump said yesterday at his daily coronavirus press conference that he had asked therapeutics manufacturers the US government is dealing with to “contact London immediately”. He added: “We’ve contacted all of Boris’s doctors and we’ll see what takes place — they are ready to go.”

Also, I presume the UK already has access to hydroxyclorquine and Z packs. if Boris's doctors thought/think the combo is useful, I'd guess Boris has already been given it.

Perfect situation for trump. If BoJo recovers he can keep his mouth shut so everyone will forget the offer, but if BoJo dies he can say that it was the UKs fault for turning down his wonderful generous treatment, and it just shows that everyone should do what Trump says.

Oh, you don't think Trump would shove his face into a tragedy like that for maximum publicity?

Key Trump coronavirus task force must work remotely after positive COVID-19 test
The positive test for coronavirus, announced in an email to Federal Emergency Management Agency staff Monday night, will empty the supply chain war room.

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/white- ... e-n1178331
A critical White House unit that is getting, shipping and distributing goods to fight the spread of the coronavirus has been ordered to vacate its war room and begin working remotely after a "partner" of the group tested positive for COVID-19, according to an email that Federal Emergency Management Agency officials sent to staff members late Monday night.

"Until further notice, all personnel in the Supply Chain Resilience task force" on a particular floor of one of FEMA's buildings "and the FEMA Conference Center are required to telework," according to an email obtained by NBC News and confirmed by a FEMA official. The message was sent to FEMA headquarters staff at 11:17 p.m. ET Monday.

The "Conference Center" is a war room set up in the FEMA complex in Washington where Admiral John Polowczyk's supply chain unit, a sub-task force within Vice President Mike Pence's larger task force that has gotten particular attention from presidential son-in-law Jared Kushner, works to find and allocate personal protective equipment and other materials needed to combat the spread of coronavirus.

Polowczyk and members of his unit were listed as recipients of the email.

Jump in new deaths today. The day isn't over.

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/
April 7 (GMT)
21753 new cases and 1529 new deaths in the United States [source]
April 6 (GMT)
30331 new cases and 1255 new deaths in the United States

An estimated additional 180 - 195 deaths per day occurring at home in New York City due to COVID-19 are not being counted in the official figures. "Early on in this crisis we were able to swab people who died at home, and thus got a coronavirus reading. But those days are long gone. We simply don't have the testing capacity for the large numbers dying at home. Now only those few who had a test confirmation *before* dying are marked as victims of coronavirus on their death certificate. This almost certainly means we are undercounting the total number of victims of this pandemic," said Mark Levine, Chair of New York City Council health committee [source]

It’s not just deaths in hospitals which are up. On an average day before this crisis there were 20-25 deaths at home in NYC. Now in the midst of this pandemic the number is 200-215. *Every day*. 5/

MSNBC now says over 12,000 U.S.deaths, I'm sure it was 11,000 this morning.

Happy tears, video was just shown of mother of five being released after winning the battle. All hospital staff there to applaud her send off. She broke down when her husband was at the door to hug her.

32 people have died at Virginia nursing facility

https://www.cbsnews.com/live-updates/co ... d=86024792
Virginia's Canterbury Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center announced Tuesday that 32 residents have died of coronavirus. Four of the deaths occurred in the last 24 hours, the center said in a statement.

The center added that 84 of its residents are currently positive for the virus. Thirty-five of those residents are asymptomatic, and 49 are experiencing mild to severe symptoms. An additional 35 residents have tested negative for the disease.

So far, 25 staff members have also tested positive for the virus, although the center noted that some test results are still pending.

"Our hearts go out to the families of those who have passed, and we deeply feel the loss within our community," the center said in the statement. "We also recognize this is an incredibly stressful time for anyone with an elderly or infirm family member, particularly in a group setting; at Canterbury, the care of these loved ones is our primary focus."

New York's Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine to become a field hospital

https://www.cbsnews.com/live-updates/co ... d=86024792
The Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine in New York City is being turned into an emergency field hospital. The "mother church" of the Episcopal Diocese of New York, and the seat of its bishop, will be able to hold at least 200 patients.

The dean of the cathedral, Right Reverend Clifton Daniel III, told The New York Times that nine medical tents will be set up inside the church's nave —where thousands of chairs normally seat worshipers — by the end of the week. The cathedral's crypt, which runs below the 600-foot-long nave, will act as a "staging area" for medical personnel, he said.

St. John the Divine is the largest cathedral in the world, and is one of the five largest church buildings "measured by length or internal volume," according to its website.

Sailor aboard 4th U.S. aircraft carrier tests positive for coronavirus
The positive test makes the Nimitz the Navy's fourth aircraft carrier so far to report a positive case among crew members.

https://www.politico.com/news/2020/04/0 ... itz-173210
A sailor assigned to the USS Nimitz, a Bremerton, Wash.-based aircraft carrier, tested positive for Covid-19 last week after experiencing symptoms while on board the ship, according to three defense officials familiar with the matter.

The positive test makes the Nimitz the Navy's fourth aircraft carrier so far to report a positive case among crew members.

The individual was put into isolation and removed from the ship. Contact tracing — or monitoring those who came into contact with the infected sailor — was done in accordance with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines, the officials said.

Another crew member has also tested positive, but that person has not been onboard the ship, the officials said. The positive cases comes as the ship is getting ready to deploy.
The other 3 carriers are the USS Carl Vinson, the USS Ronald Reagan and of course the USS Theodore Roosevelt.

Note the "defense officials familiar with the matter" sourcing in that Politico story. Esper ordered all of those numbers to be a secret. Looks like the "underlings" aren't cool with that.
